Sorry I disappeared! I got burned out and took a break, and now I'm making something more modern. Hopefully I'll get it out of my system so I can come back to these challenges!
Looks like there aren't any official entries for this one! I'll post a new challenge right away, but for anyone still working on something I'll be happy to judge it if you can get it in by the end of today!
No. 28 Rome
My ancient sims are moving ahead into greek/roman times and I'd love to see something reminiscent of that! You can build a famous building from Rome, or a family home, or a village, or maybe even some shops or a restaurant... where ever the winds of creativity take you! It just has to be ANCIENT Greek/Roman inspired.
Really looking forward to this one, the expansion packs will give you so many fun options! Or if you're into CC (like me!) there should be some really fun stuff out there to find! GOOD LUCK!
Due Date: May 16
Is there a money limit and lot type we must build on?
Yesss. I made a Roman home a few years ago. So I will have to correct the placement issues and use the new packs to improve furnishing. but the major build is already done
Back story: (Tell us what is up! More equals more here!) This is an ancient villa Urbana, based a exactly as possible on original floorplans. The Roman was Quintus Fabius, the praefectus urbi of Rome. So he was not only rich, he had to show his riches. The #vestibule – Entrance area look grand and is directly connected to the #Atrium, the entrance hall, where a hole in the ceiling (compluvium) lets rain flow into a small basin (impluvium). Behind the Atrium is the #Tablinum, a greeting room to do business (your ancient Sim can use it to study). Then there is the #hortus – the garden with a large pool deep fountain , the garden is surrounded by open corridors, the #perestyles. The male and female quartes in the house are separated, the landlady even has her own living-room to greet her quests in. The #latrina, the bathroom has an indoor toilet (wealthy homes had them), even if they was no t actually flushed. The #Triclinum was the dining room, where the romans enjoyed lying down to eat during festive dinners. I did enter chairs on one side of the table for the Sim to be able to choose, though). On the ground floor, there is also a small pantry kitchen to serve breakfast and small snacks
The Basement has the grand kitchen, the slave and servant quarters are also down here, together with storage and workshop rooms. Then there is the ice cellar. Huge blocks of ice were harvested in the Albanian mountains and stored here. Smaller ice blocks were then cut off and placed in #icecabinets in the top drawer to cool wine. To make the lot playable I used the most old-fashioned fridge and oven instead.
Ancient Villa Urbana looks very grand! @Bolonkafrauchen Very nice design and layout of the build! It was great reading the background details of the build on the thread and that accompany each of the slideshow photos, and learning about Ancient Roman homes through what you wrote and how you designed the build. Very nice outdoors entrance area! The front porch looks great how the columns are used there, and the garden nooks with the plants , flowers and water fountains look very nice! It is great that there is a hole in the roof to let water fall into the basin. The garden area is very pretty! The plants look very nice on the edges of the pool . It is a special touch that you have placed ottoman stools along side the dining table, for sim to lay on whilst eating their meals. The basement kitchen is very nice! The stone texture of the walls gives a great look to the build.
Each area of the home is designed to reflect Roman Times so very well!
Thank you so much @rosemow. I updated a build to fit the challenge. When I first built this, my son had "Ancient Rome" as a topic in history class. So I made the Villa and my son had to tell me everything he knew about the rooms and their meaning. that got him rather attached to the topic and he studied hard and got an A (or rather a 1 here in Germany) for the exam

You’re welcome @Bolonkafrauchen
It is great that the original build was created due to an Ancient Rome topic that your son was studying. Both him and yourself would have learnt a lot about Ancient Rome whilst doing the build and studying the topic. Congratulations on your son going so well in the exam!

Heya @Fabtiffsim! I actually did finish an Egyptian house and just didn't like it. Working on the Roman one but got hung up in the courtyard/Roman bath. Hoping to get it done, but the outside is really boring and I've only got one room partially furnished. Working on it, though!!. WIP:
The courtyard with the sunken Roman bath in your WIP looks so very nice! @Ainsleyf It is great that there are steps down to the bath and fish fountains there are a nice touch. The old columns look great how they are used there. The pink flowers look very pretty on the wall areas! Very nice seat bench sitting areas there.
The WIP is looking great!
Sometimes I try to do cc free builds so I can upload them, but I just lerv me some CC! It's too hard for me haha I've got a few favs that I just don't think I can build without and they're TINY so I'm unsure why I'm bothering, but I guess it makes a difference to me. *Shrugs* I just like what I like I guess!
