When did pool ladders become useless?

«1
Hi all,
I just noticed that my sims just haul themselves out of the pool and that when I click on the ladder, no options appear. Has this always been the case and I just never noticed? I always put ladders in the pools to avoid sims drowning to death, but I'm wondering if there is any use for the ladder at all.

Thanks

They are there mainly for decoration/animation now. It's more realistic that sims can climb out without them, and sit on the edge to eat/socialise etc.

If you want to drown them, fence in the pool once they are in it.

I think some still use them, but it's like in real life. Sure I'm not the most athletic, but I can still haul myself out of a pool (although admitted I use the ladder in the deep end. Deep water scares me)

I have no memory of this place. Time to start anew I guess

Awe, that's the way I used to off pesky NPC sims. Just disappear the ladder.

I think it's quite realistic to leave a pool using a ladder? :o

No point in having a pool at the moment with sims not wanting to swim.

It is, but it's unrealistic that they couldn't climb out WITHOUT one. That was my point.

Growing up my local pool had ladders at the deep and shallow ends. The entrance to the changing rooms was in the middle, no ladder there. Easiest to climb out without the ladder in the middle, than go to the end and potentially have to queue at the ladder.

Were the ladders always decorative in Sims 4? I never noticed till today.

I actually dont have a long answer to this.
But yes, we have always been able to get up from the edge, since the pool patch. :)

Thanks all! I guess I've been unobservant and assumed they had to use the ladders like in Sims 3.

Are they still not able to swim and do laps? The only thing my sims will do is use the diving board repeatedly till they are bored and wander off to do something else
Mods should enhance my game, not fix it.

Ah, sorry, like in 1 and 2 you mean, my bad ;) It's odd they can't use the ladder though isn't it?

I tried to find the asnwer to the question by the way (were they able to use a ladder before) and found this article.
Vaughan said that player reaction to a Sims game without pools was so intense that developers knew they had to rectify the situation as soon as possible. This time around, however, Sims have the ability to sit on the side of pools and climb out without use of a ladder, eliminating the fan-favorite way of knocking them off.
Sitting on the side is new (and great, I think the way sims in and out of the pool can interact with each other has improved anyway), but climbing out 'this time around'?

They have been useless since TS3 as some players who wanted to drown their Sims may have found out :hushed:

I always thought it was silly Sims 1 Sims couldn't get out on their own tbh, lol. But then they couldn't hardly do anything on their own (including flushing a toilet as I've seen with TheSimSupply lately playing it). I'm more than happy for these quality of life improvements, lol.

I found out the hard way!

In my defence...the sim in question was obsessed and I mean obsessed with the deep fat fryer thing. Every meal he was at it. He would have got fatter, I was just putting him out his misery early.

    Or so I thought.

In Sims 3 Sims stopped using ladders but for kids and elder mostly. Sounds like real life actually. LOL.

They will use them more often if you place them in the spot they most often use to route out of the pool...but admittedly it doesn't always work.

Not useless in the sense they can also use that if they want to ;) But if you want to drown a sim in 3 (guilty as charged...) you'll indeed have to build a wall around it :p

Since The Sims 3 Sims have the wonderful ability to save their own behinds from drowning via climb on the side of the pool. So this has been part of the franchise since 2009 when the sims 3 was released! So Happy Swimming Simming Swimming Simming Simmer! :)

I also felt a wee bit frustrated when my sims never used the pool ladder. I cannot imagine an older, heavier sim being able to haul plum out of the pool at the drop of a hat plus the burn one would get on their thighs from rubbing on the cement, that has to hurt.

One minor fact about Sims 4 that is an itch that I can't scratch and drives me nuts!

Wow, I must really be oblivious. I started playing the Sims with Sims 2. I played Sims 3 for years and never noticed they could haul themselves out. Just noticed it yesterday.... :*
