Basegame Lot Traits

For those who haven't had a chance to head in game to check out the new basegame lot traits:
  1. Homey: The homey vibe helps Sims quickly master the domestic arts of Cooking, Mixology, Handiness, and Gardening
  2. Fast Internet: A great online connection helps out those looking to improve their Programming, Video Gaming, or Writing skills.
  3. Great Acoustics: The acoustics are perfect here! A great place for any musician to hone their skills.
  4. Science Lair: The secluded vibe means there's little to distract great minds from the study of Logic or Rocket Science.
  5. Convivial: The spacious but intimate feel makes it easier to practice Charisma, Comedy, and Mischief to your heart's content.
  6. Natural Light: The quality of light here makes Painting and Photography much easier to master.
  7. Bracing Breezes: Oodles of fresh air make for a bracing environment to exercise.
  8. Private Dwelling: A home lot with this trait deters all but the most determined visitors (It has little effect on commercial venues).

Hi,

8 lot traits were released, 7 of them improve the skills of your sims.

Sadly, I will never use them because I prefer to use cheat codes.
Now I'm waiting for the next 18 lot traits.

    I was playing around with them in my game and I really like it. I'm going to enjoy adding them to my towns and having some real fun with different ways to play my sims!

    I imagine these lot traits are interesting when they are used with the community lots.

    Great Acoustics => Lounge
    Fast Internet => Library
    Bracing Breezes => Gym
    Homey => Bar
    Convivial => Lounge

    Well then I won't be using the lot traits. I think the game is already too easy.

    I'm not sure how much I'll be using the skill boosts, I think for some saves it will be good to get things started a bit guicker. I don't use cheat codes (I didn't even call Jasmine during the skill boost challenge because it felt too much like cheating, lol). I think I will use these, but sparingly.

    Ok so the traits don't actually do anything except raise skills faster. I was hoping they actually did something like natural lighting made the new lighting effects from windows brighter and spread out more and maybe photos a little brighter or something. Maybe homey would give a constant comforting emotion something like a fireplace does. Bracing breezes- the curtains would move more and maybe a wind sound effect every now and then and cause a fresh air moodlet. Great acoustics would make music sound better throughout the house instead of having to zoom close in to the sim playing the instrument and maybe a moodlet as well. You get the idea. Of course they would all raise skills as well. The only one that actually does something is private dwelling. I dont mean to complain but its just things like this that are missing from TS4. I'm really thankful they gave us a few lot traits as a free update...maybe the ones from CL will be better. The poweroutage one will actually cause poweroutage and the filthy trait will actually make the lot filthy. I'll find out in a few days.

    I haven't play with the patch yet, but do the traits requisite something or you can use them no matter what? Like can you use Natural Light even if your house have no windows?

    Natural Light boosts painting and photography. You can put it on every lot, like any other trait, no matter the building.

    So lot traits are basically buffs. Too bad they kept the more interesting ones like Haunted for the EP

    Like personality traits. And objects. And decor. And, well, pretty much most things in this game ^^

    But I'll check them out this weekend, see if there's something to them - that is, if my cat stops walking all over my keyboard & hugging my screen long enough for me to actually be able to play ;)

    I actually love the lot traits! I'm really into building, and I feel they give my houses more personality :) Can't wait for the ones in the EP!

    @EmmaVane Are you adding any traits to your residental lots or keeping them for community lots only?

    I'm trying to start playing game generated aliens and come up with personalities for them. I decided one of them is into gardening, so I built her a starter home with homey lot trait. It's one of the Newcrest lots where there are five in a row. I'm planning to move more aliens in that neighbourhood and each of them will be specifying in one area of sim life.

    Only played residential lots. Maybe club ones too, if used. Homey as standard, then anything useful for residents.

    Having internet issues right now. Phone connecting to home router, but PC won't. Something up with IP, apparently. :(

    I have to admit, there aren't many in the base game. But, we only have to wait like, 5 days until we get over 9000 more!

    Thanks for ideas, @EmmaVane ! I like the idea of using these to make one venue different from another venue of the same type in more than decor.

    Wow what a let down. We already have a million ways to boost skills and change emotions. Offer us some game play please.

    This.

    I was afraid this would be the case (most lot traits being just skill boosters). In my opinon the only ones that may be worth it are those that create more of a challenge (e.g. Dirty houses, earthquakes). I Wonder if there will be many of those..:

    I haven't tested in game yet (computer crashed and internet messed up after I set all lot traits, need to redo) but it's possible these traits give the skill boosts without giving the relevant moodlets.

    Fast internet, for example, boosts Video Gaming and Programming (normally boosted when focused) and Writing (normally boosted when inspired). It wouldn't boost them all if it gave a specific positive boost (either inspired or focused) so it probably doesn't effect your sim's mood at all.

    So, it's a different way to get boosts.

    I wish we had more lot traits that are more than just skill boosts in the base game, I won't be using them... Let's say I add the Great Acoustics trait to my sim's home and have a club that boosts guitar skill as well as have lots of inspiring decor, they would skill up like crazy.

    Some might enjoy using it, but I feel like the game is too easy for me the way it is...

    You could choose not to add it to your sim's house (how many houses are built with acoustics in mind, anyway?) and just add it to music venues. This way your sims would be rewarded for actually going to a proper venue to play.

    This was my idea. I want to get my sims out more. You want to learn faster? Go find the right venue! :)

    That's something to think about... It could indeed work better for community lots than houses... Thank you for the suggestion. :)
