If it's not seasons, generations, pets or supernatural people will be disappointed, they know we don't want new things and would rather have the other packs first.
I'm not making any comment about your speculation on what it could or couldn't be but your delivery made me want to comment on this because I personally think this really is a sad way to view things.
Why don't you want new experiences? In the grand schemes of things you must realize that there are others who do want new experiences with a bit of the old thrown in. Why don't you want to the team to push themselves creatively to try new things? This is honestly something I struggle with understanding when I see comments like that on the forums and would really love to understand this kind of mind set.
The real question is why can't your team give people what their asking for instead of having selective hearing. Sure, new experiences are great but ignoring the huge elephant in the room isn't going to fix the game either.
This is why I wish we could get some of the basics in the base game like weather and such, then they'd have plenty of room for new ideas.
But things like seasons, pets, supernatural (dedicated EP or life states), etc, have become a staple in the series and people get used to having them, so having to wait however long for them to come, if they come, is a bit of a bummer.
If it's not seasons, generations, pets or supernatural people will be disappointed, they know we don't want new things and would rather have the other packs first.

Because every time you guys add something new it is either poorly executed or boring *cough* emotions/ musical chairs of doom *cough* Besides, what is a life simulation game without pets, seasons or family play like these things should kind of be in the base game by now but I'm not judging although A LOT of AAA games ship with awesome weather and animals <.< >.> I'd like new sprinkled into the old, improved not removed

There are some old things that have such a big impact that they completely change the game. Seasons is one of these for me for example, different weather and seasons passing makes it a completely different game. So there're two main reasons I can think of that could make me prefer an old theme like Seasons over new experiences : I know how game-changer some of the old themes were, while I don't know yet whether the new experiences will be as impactful for me, and I'm afraid the old themes won't come back at all (so it's reassuring to have it now, because the future is unknown).
I definitely want new experiences too ! Ideally, I would want the old things I loved back, and the things I didn't like as much replaced with new things

Sorry, @SimGuruDrake I didn't mean for it to come across like that. It's just that many of us have been begging for things like toddlers and generations ever since toddlers were confirmed to not be in the base game, and seasons/pets are always the big EPs people want. I DO want new experiences but i'm sure I can speak for myself and many others in saying that I would rather have the basics and missing base game content before things we've never had before.
ETA: New experiences can always be implemented through old packs, farming can be added to pets, disasters/other seasonal activities could be added to seasons, new ways to play with supernaturals in that pack etc.

Oh boy where to start. Because it's The Sims 4, I am expecting the basics to come back.
You guys already gave us two "meh" EPs, it's time to bring back something to go wow about, something that is constantly mentioned on this forum, pets/seasons/generations/supernaturals/apartments/university to mention a few.
This is just my opinion but seeing how there's constantly negative opinions around this game maybe I feel like the future is uncertain and you might stop production before I get to see my favorite EP coming out? I'm reaching but you get the idea.
I'm only really replying to your comment since it was the last but there seems to be this misconception on how I work and what my job is.
[*] I am here to inform you about the product, engage with you, and take your feedback to my various partners in studio.
[*] I have way more access to things in Studio than you seem to realize. I am down in studio a good 95% of my day and have visibility into a good chunk of what goes on. I don't just receive an email the week before an announce with a subject line of "Next Pack is this" and the text in it just giving me bullet points to push out to all of you. I'm down there asking about what is going in, raising red flags when I feel you may get upset about something so I can understand why a specific decision was made, helping read our blogs to make sure that the team I'm on is being effective at answering the questions that I think you will end up asking, etc. I joke around that I really am the "gut check" with all of my studio partners because I am the physical representation of you and your voices.
I know it isn't easy, doing you job, since no matter what you say, it will be over-analyzed and pulled apart for hidden meanings of any kind.
I also figured you might know a lot of what is actually going on, after all, you work there. I already know you can't say much, until you get the "green light" so to speak, for various reasons. It must be a little hard having to hold back for so long.
I guess I would have liked to know if it (Exp pk 3) is something we have never had before, (Not say what it is, just comment a yes or no, but I guess you can't?...)
Anyway, those "voices you relay to the decisions makers", can you add "my voice", (tiny as it is, lol ) - if you already haven't - that I would LOVE to have a Tropical World/Neighborhood/Vacation...In other words, anything that creates a special Tropical Haven for our Sims.
Beat you to the punch. She's not going to answer she skipped right over mine to reply to the "last comment" but anyway I get she can't tell us what it is but it's frustrating she can't even answer something that simple or is EP4 even being worked on. She really feels they do a great job communicating with the community which is a complete joke.
Didn't meant to skip over your comment, I purposefully responded the the comment after yours because it was relevant to what I was wanting to cover.
I don't talk about future stuff because all you will do is focus on that rather than what is ahead of you. That is what I am trying to get at. This idea of you thinking nothing is coming in the future seems weird to me because unless we tell you we aren't producing stuff anymore you should know that things are coming down the pipeline. We clearly haven't stopped production so why this mind set?
I can only throw out a guess, but people seem stuck on what happened to SimCity, when production just stopped, with barely a word. People seem to think that the same thing is going to happen to TS4 because of the lack of news outside of the teasers. Like if you're not talking, you're not working on things, which has not proven to be the case.
I guess I'm on a ship with the developers in this. If I had to wait for pets, seasons, supernatural and even generations before something new comes along, I'd rather go back to Sims 2 for good. Ideally the old elements should make a return, but in a different form. I mentioned it another thread already, something like werewolves and weather in a farm life pack and vampires in a politics pack that could also cover higher education (greek houses as the breeding grounds for future intrigants, erm, community representatives I mean, of course). The tricky thing is meshing elements in a pack without losing it's focus (like Get to work did).
If it's not seasons, generations, pets or supernatural people will be disappointed, they know we don't want new things and would rather have the other packs first.

I actually want these themes revamped even though I'd be ok with a school pack instead of a generations EP if EPs are going to be limited.
For Seasons, I want it to have natural disasters. For pets, I want either more exotic pets, Voidcritters, or supernatural pets. Supernaturals I really love the classic old movie versions of and like having them appear scary rather than fluffy.
Instead of University I want a complete school EP that show the active school setting for all life stage. The challenging part of this is that I don't want it to be set up like active careers in GTW, but more freedom like the club system of GT. I guess with any iteration I like to look ahead of what might be especially for the big EP ideas like these.

@simgurudrake I can't speak for The-simScraper or others when they make comments like that, but I think it is not that they don't want new creative things, but they want the things that they feel are integral to the sims game as a whole. Sims 1 added witches, ghosts and zombies, sims 2 had witches, ghosts, vampires etc. and we know sims 3 also had supernaturals including a new town for them to live in. Sims two expanded beyond sims one with the addition of weather adding more realism to the game. Pets was another way to add more ways to play. To people it isn't only having new things, but having what made the other games more enjoyable like weather and gave them not only realism, but creativity and options to as the saying goes "rule" in my game. This is a life simulation, and what is life without pets, weather, or toddlers? Now granted supernaturals are not part of real life, but it gave players the options to play outside of real life if they so chose, to be creative and have fantasy. The point is no matter how they choose to play fantasy, semi-real life, or real life, they "rule". because they have the options to play life the way they choose.
I have struggled to like sims 4 for this reason. It feels like an empty shell of previous sims games as in having the freedom to play my way.
I want to play families nope, no toddlers. I want to have my sims have a snowball fight, oops no can do no snow. I guess what I am saying is the more real life options we get and fantasy options the better.
The fact that we have no clue when ep 3 is coming out if it is coming out this year when previous iterations of the sims had 2 a year, worries some people. The previous series had about a 4-5 year life span, and being almost 2 years in with 2 eps and no idea if we are going to even get an ep this year is worrisome and why some people would rather have pets, toddlers, supernaturals, more npcs, weather than something new, because they are afraid at the end of the series if it ends in the next 3 years, we will have a half complete life simulation game with new things, but missing the things that make a life simulation game what it should be ,a simulation of life in all respects possible.
I don't know if I said it well enough, and maybe some won't agree, but this is my take on it and I hope it helps.
I don't talk about future stuff because all you will do is focus on that rather than what is ahead of you.
(partial quote)
Wait, did I miss something? Isn't future stuff the same as what is ahead of us???
At any rate, I'll agree with the others -- yes, I would love brand new, robust Sims content, as long as the good stuff from previous iterations (seasons, weather, ALL life stages, pets, supernaturals -- all with options to turn on or off so the player can actually "rule") were part of the base game. Why are they left out, either they're (a) not important, or (b) so important that they're worth charging more for later as an expansion pack. Which is it?
If EA really can't talk about what's coming (or not), then why, just a month or so ago, did a dev or guru say that pets were not being worked on yet? Why the selective secrecy?
And I would like to say that this is a great discussion!
If it's not seasons, generations, pets or supernatural people will be disappointed, they know we don't want new things and would rather have the other packs first.

I must say I feel like Sims 3 found a nice balance between new and old and I find myself missing having new life states with every EP. For instance Seasons is greatly improved with weather that changes slowly and realistically, darkening clouds long before a storm and wind that has a visible effect on the environment while adding new features like the holidays which I LOVE, and seasonal lots which were amazing and are always fun along with a great mix of new interactions and activities.
While we are at it, Sims 4's GTW is an example of a bad frankenEP with no replay-ability, lacking features, terrible version from the game play of Sims 2 and 3 along with TERRIBLE new things. Same with GT, it feels like NL but without the apartments, drink that effect their mood ( I find the bars extremely boring an useless unlike in Sims 3 where it could change how they acted) or Vampires, why still no vampires in Sims 4 , but with a new group feature that is intensely over hyped and not worthy of being the main feature of the pack. My sims in previous games managed fine with those groups and it had the bonus of not always having the annoying sims try to join mine. Oh and the dancing is also kinda meh but at least the dance floor makes a nice skylight. At least my kids can skip school at the club and hang around there in front of their parents because nobody seems to work and not even get scolded

Why this mindset? Look how long it's been since we've received any information on an EP. It's going on a year and were so clueless about EP3 to the point people were wondering if there is an EP3. I asked about EP4 because I'm trying to get an idea of how far along you all are on developing EP's or are we going to have play the year long guessing game every time for an EP. I'm trying to give you all the benefit of the doubt.
I'm baffled at how your team just outright ignores our ancient requests and gives us something new we haven't asked for. Have they learned nothing from the GT backlash? That's like ordering at a restaurant and the waiter comes back and asks why don't want something else.
If it's not seasons, generations, pets or supernatural people will be disappointed, they know we don't want new things and would rather have the other packs first.

Well, @SimGuruDrake since you asked. I just said something similar on another thread, but when you make a transition to another sims' games, there are certain things that need to be there for me. Things like Generations, Pets, Seasons, University, because they add the basics of life. And I speak for myself, but I need those basic features to properly simulate life and enjoy playing my families. I miss having a house full of cats and dogs running around and greeting my sims when they get home, I miss sending my families to the beach on a hot day or stay at home having a hot drink by the fireplace when it's snowing outside, I miss having dates where you could do a bunch of things like go karaoking or play bowling, I miss playing teenagers and start wondering what they will study at University and what experience they will get there, I miss having my sim kids invite their friends over to play at the tree house and then later have a sleepover, I miss having my teens sneaking out in the middle of the night to meet their crush, I miss toddlers. Those are all things we took for granted on a sims' game and suddenly they are not there anymore. Sure, things like Seasons and Pets always take their time to make, I'm not expecting you to deliver those EPs only two years later, but Generations? University? There are too many new things already in TS4, it's time for a classic. You can still throw new things in, but the core of these EPs should remain the same. They add ordinary things that we do in our everyday lives, and without them, I can't properly enjoy the game because I feel like something is always missing.

Yeah same. I really love life states and how they kind of break the cycle of the norm. I like that darker element to the Sims and I fear it will never arrive for this iteration. If I wanted a happy only game, that is what I have Animal Crossing for. I don't want the Sims turned into Animal Crossing. I want it to feel like a teen game and not an E rated game. The Sims 4 I don't know is coming off as too safe.

@SimGuruDrake I agree with most of the people here. I want something old with something new in it. There are just major themes, which I need to be covered. Lots of people are getting used to a particular type of gameplay and create stories around that. However, if those major themes aren't covered, then these stories can never be realised.
I loved to play with supernaturals since sims 1. I have so many stories in my head, some that I already played in other games, but will now be different because Sims 4 has different features and some that I have never played. The point is they are in my head and I can't wait to play them out. I believe lots of players feel like that about major themes (Generations, seasons, pets, supernatural). Most of us want the EPs to be different, and add something new, but we need the major themes to be covered.
When did any Guru say those "basic" EPs were never going to be created? We have only had two EPs, lets, at least, see what the third one is before we throw in the towel.

well i am not throwing the towel as you call it i am expecting to see what will be next after the third expansion pack

Well at the average life span of 5 years per game, Sims 4 is only getting one EP per year so where are they gong to fit in Seasons, Pets, Supernatural and something new. Not to mention if Outdoor retreat is the only vacation we will ever have it is more disappointing than the terrible mention system of the Sims
It's ok to have new expansion packs but, why keep making the same mistake like with the base game? Assuming that players want what the creators wants.Or that the players vision is the same as the creators. Why not release what the players want first than release their creative vision to us? I don't understand that kind of logic either.

This game has the worst engine yet if I have to be honest, they can't anything and this thing can't even support an open world or apparently anything because we need culling in every form for the game to not spontaneously combust, like it doesn't even have swing, the babies are sims 1 style and honestly it all seems way outdated when looking at anything else released in 2014. I can't even imagine this game being able to support more than 5 years. The other games had way more stuff at 2 years.
I mean who would keep buying Sims 4 stuff for 10 years when the sims can't even notice their mother died in the next room.

People seem to think that the same thing is going to happen to TS4 because of the lack of news outside of the teasers. Like if you're not talking, you're not working on things, which has not proven to be the case.
To add: I want new. New's good.

Most of us want the EPs to be different, and add something new, but we need the major themes to be covered.
well i am not throwing the towel as you call it i am expecting to see what will be next after the third expansion pack

Now you're assuming that S4 will only last five years. Maybe they have so many ideas that it could last much longer. The other versions stopped because the ideas ran out and new ways to develop the game were created.
What a descriptive post! I'm seriously considering loading my Sims 3 game.
