Has anyone ever built one that actually functions as retail stores and your sim can go buy stuff there?

I haven't done that myself yet, I usually only stick to smaller shops/venues.
Not sure if you can have multiple retail stores on one lot. It sounds super interesting though, so now I am tempted to try it out. :')

I have seen some people do it on youtube though.
