I've enough now to purchase one and I'm really not sure I want to. I like the idea of slowing them down, but not shutting them down. If I choose this, can I turn it off if I change my mind later? Do you all do it?
I only like shutting the social needs of sims that are constantly sad due to having the “charmer” trait as a toddler...it’s absolutely annoying how sad they get constantly sad for not getting social attention for like 5 minutes. And yes, I have made sure since discovering the “charmer” traits relentless sadness to never use it as a trait EVER.
The only reward trait I ever purchase that comes close to shutting needs down is 'Steel Bladder'. And even with that trait your Sim still gets a low bladder need after a couple of drinks or coffee. And I guess 'Antiseptic' is also ok. But 'Forever Fresh', 'Forever Full' and most of all 'Never Weary' don't fit my gameplay at all and I never purchase them even though I have many Sims with more than enough points to afford them.
it totally depends on the sim for me, but i'm glad those reward traits are an option...
for example, the ones netz listed as not fitting her gameplay, those ones i add to virtually every ghost sim, since that fits my idea of ghosts... they don't need to eat or sleep or whatever, though there are exceptions. like starvation ghosts don't get 'forever full' or overexertion/murphy bead ghosts don't get 'never weary'
i've also given a few of those traits to certain sims, to be similarly thematic. like my skeleton pirate (which is actually just a regular sim wearing a cheat-unlocked 'skeleton' outfit from jungle adventure) also gets the same traits, as skeletons don't need to eat, or my spellcasters that are actual mythological beings like an incarnation of coyote, a trickster spirit common to many native american tribes
overall, though, i'm not a fan of using those traits for most of my sims. and yes, there is a way to remove them if you change your mind... but it requires using cheats (and possibly a mod to double check that they're properly removed, though that's mostly needed for hidden traits, not reward traits) and you lose the points spent on the trait (though you can just cheat the points back on)
No I never use them, I find it takes away any element of interest or challenge from the game. For me, it's those little annoyances that make it feel real. I don't think once you've selected a reward that you can undo it unfortunately. I could be wrong, but I dont think so. (honestly I dont use them enough to have found out).
I use ones to correct silly things like Always Welcome, and sometimes the Connections one, but that feels obsolete with careers after university starting so high. Most of my sims die of old age with 20,000+ unused points.
I do not like them for my human sims, those only ever get the slowing down bonus traits. And even then it must be in-character.
But the stronger versions come in handy for my androids. Human-looking robots that are not vulnurable to water and not dependent on mods that are prone to breaking - what's not to love about that? Maybe one day I want to create different supernaturals, like kalaksed's skeleton pirate, and for those situations I like having options.
I don't use most rewards traits unless I need one specifically for character development. I really don't use them for needs, but that reflects my playstyle. I find having needs to manage realistic. I don't mind them for other players. I guess it wouldn't hurt me to review them more for some established households, but not to reduce needs. I guess I like the challenge of having them.
Steel Bladder is about the only one I get, sometimes Forever Fresh also. I had a sim once who had all of them and was bored out of my mind. Early in a sims life it can seem as though there is not enough time to take care of everything, study, train, cook, clean, socialize, etc ... But with traits that shut down needs I find I have too much time and am bored. While everyone else is asleep this sim is awake just doing something to get a skill raised because really there is nothing else to do at 3am.
I don't like reward traits that stop needs completely. For my play-style, it's unrealistic. Adding them to ghosts would make sense for me, but I don't actually play with any of the ghosts so I don't get around to adding the traits. They just hang out in the background, anyway.
The only reward trait that I'll use that has anything to do with their needs is the Seldom Sleepy one, and I only use it on a few Sims that I might consider insomniacs.
Heck no! I'd rather have the mood increase from a wonderful bed, an excellent meal, a rewarding conversation and deluxe plumbing! Not to mention the utility of a Potion of Fulfilled Needs in a tight spot.
I once purchased "never weary" for my gamer because it fit his personality to stay up all night gaming... and it got really annoying after a while, because he'd end up having weird sleep cycles compared to the rest of the family (plus I was never able to fast forward the nights away). That was the first and only time I ever bought that one.
I've never done hardly hungry/forever full, and I highly doubt I ever will since family meals (food in general) are pretty important for my gameplay. I like having everyone together for dinner, and I almost always have a chef or baker at one point in the lineage.
Steel bladder I've done quite a bit, that one is a lot less annoying. Antiseptic is kind of meh. I don't hate it, I don't like it.
I will use carefree with almost all of my sims though, that one saves me a lot of headaches. The only reason I won't use it is if I think having a sim stressed from work or school will add to my storyline (or if I forget).
I don't normally like to use them, except for my 100 baby challenge mom. I got her steel bladder and seldom sleepy.
When I started playing Sims 4 I used them a lot and now I regret it. I still have old saves with Sims that have never weary trait and it's very annoying when they don't sleep. Time goes by very slowly when the rest of the family sleeps and one of them does random things the whole night.
sometimes i'll give one sim the trait that makes them never need to socialise (i don't remember what it's called) if i have a multi-sim household. it makes it easier to manage everyone's social needs if one of them doesn't go down. i find socialising in TS4 to be almost as stressful as it is irl lol

No, I don't like them. I sometimes use the reward traits that makes their needs go down slower. But completely eliminating them is not really realistic and takes away too much of the challenge. Perhaps steel bladder for an alien but that is about it.
But I think it is nice to have the option for those who want it. I can imagine they are very useful for players who want to make video with a specific story line in their mind and don't really like taking care of the needs of their 'actors' .
I never use them for a human sim. Once a sim has been alive for awhile and has some skills, you run out of things to do and you need that break to fill up needs, IMO. My occult sims I will purchase the odd one for but because I don't use them regularly, I do tend to forget them, which is just as well because, to me, they feel like cheating and this iteration of the game is so easy they're really not needed. (Now I could have made some use of these in past iterations of the game )

I do the EXACT same thing with ghosts, I'll never understand why they gave ghosts those needs.

I have loved the stars too truly to be fearful of the night.
