Nice update! I see your sims are becoming elders, I used a youth potion on my two adults since it said the aspiration rewards were fair game, does that include the youth potion?
@Caimar11 Yes, Youth potions are fair game. I'm not using them to challenge myself, but that doesn't mean they're off limits.. And thanks for the compliment on the update.
Great! My couple just had a baby boy. He'll be the heir since mom had horrible morning sickness. The worst I've seen in my games. So only one pregnancy for her!
@Caimar11 Oh no! Morning sickness is no fun. I don't blame you for not having another kid! When I had my son (in real life), I had terrible morning sickness.. and never had another one, either.
I don't blame you! I had terrible morning sickness with my girls. So I think I'll use the traditional legacy rule about the youth potion, one per sims lifetime. That way its still a bit challenging. My founding sims have enough for another potion already.
@Caimar11 That's a good idea! I must admit, I often forget about the youth potion, because a lot of the challenges I play disallow it.. so it just slips my mind. I find, I often forget about those rewards entirely.
Great challenge! I've started many legacy challenges and have never finished them so I think I may give this one a go
My questions is...can I add a household member in at anytime to help complete goals? for example I start with the founder, then move in a roommate/spouse and later move in a roommate? so I have 3 goal sets going at once?
@Pebblycat Yes! The only restriction on moving in more adults is that they need to be created by you, so they're completely skill-less and unemployed. The other way around that is to cheat all the skills away and quit the job if you find a townie you just have to have. (Kids, obviously, have to be brought in as babies, either by adoption or birth.) In fact, to get all the goal sets done within the "goal" of 26 generations, there will be generations where you need to have three adults working on their goals at a time, because there's 60 goal sets.
I'm having some sort of glitch on my heir. He just aged to young adult but it didn't let me choose his final trait. When I go to him in CAS it just shows only 2 traits. No option for a 3rd even though he is a young adult.
@Caimar11 Try using the full edit mode in cheats to fix it. This should allow you to add the third trait.. I think because it's glitched the cheat will be okay. Here's how. (I've only had to do this a handful of times, so I had to google how to do it.)
Press Ctrl + Shift + C to bring up the cheat console.
Enter testingcheats true.
Enter cas.fulleditmode (this enables you to make full edits, like when you start a new game)
Now click on a sim while holding Shift down. You should get an "Edit in CAS" option.
So I just completed my first goal set! I started with 2 sims with Set #19 Art Critic and Set #20 Food Critic. I've now completed Set #20 and I'm so excited that my Sim survived eating the pufferfish! I've never tried eating it before in any of my saves for the fear of death!
@IllusoryThrall do you know of a website that has the list of base game recipes? I have all the packs so it's very hard to know which recipes I need to cook for Set #21
I enjoy your blog posts illusory! And even have re-read a couple.
So for my progress, my girl founder, Tess has completed her goal set, the Journalist. The hardest part was making the 20 friends but she did it and she's continually sad because they keep dying. She's an elder now.
My guy founder, Darren is nearing death and he has completed every goal of the handisim goal set EXCEPT creating every wood working item excellent quality. He has done every item even the emotion items excellent quality except the wooden toilet. He is only turning up normal quality toilets. He's created at least 20 toilets all normal quality while focused and having the perfectionist trait. Since he only has a couple days left I don't want to keep having him create toilets. But if I count it as a fail I don't want to end up in the same boat trying with a different generation creating everything excellent except the toilet. I did have him unlock forgotten grotto for a future generation.
My heir Archer, and their only child completed the toddler goal set which was very difficult but he got it done. Then I had him complete the child get an adult skill to level 10. As a teen he reached level 3 of the manual labor. I gave him the active trait and mistakenly put a workout gym in the house and didnt pay much attention to him because I was working on his parents and he ballooned up to body builder size it was shocking. So I took out the gym and out a treadmill instead lol. He's a young adult and he'll be working on the space ranger set. I created a girl for him, who I plan to have work on the tech guru set. They just met. This challenge has been a lot of fun to play so far!
@Pebblycat That's a good question. My web search turned up https://simsvip.com/2014/09/14/guide-the-sims-4-cooking-skill-recipe-list/, and I think that's pretty close. That was a goal I got from the absolute master goal sets, and I'm not sure how realistic cooking all of them in excellent is going to be. If it doesn't work out for you, I may remove that goal from the list, so let me know. Actually, it's the next goal set I'm going to work on next generation, too (for the spouse), so I guess I'll get to try it out, too. Also, congrats on your first generation completed goals! That's great!
@Caimar11 I'm glad that solution worked for you. I agree that the Top Notch Toddler is extremely difficult, I struggled to get it done, too - but what a rush when you do complete it, right? Congrats on getting all those goals done! I agree I wouldn't count the single toilet you couldn't get done as a fail, you got so close. Good idea to open the Grotto for later! I'm glad you're having fun with the challenge, I am, too! And thank you very much for the comments on my blog. I'm always curious whether people actually read it.. I know I do, because I use it to keep track of where I am in a challenge instead of taking physical notes, but it's gratifying to know that other people do, too.
@IllusoryThrall Thank you for that list. I've quite easily been able to get all the dishes to excellent quality and it looks like I've cooked more than the base game (was waiting for a list). Every time my Sims need to eat I've made a new dish so it's made it easier to get through.
My question now is after looking at that list is, do we have to make Ambrosia as well? in addition to the cooking skills you would need gardening and fishing. Not sure my city living Sims will be able to handle this
Edit: Are you including quick meal options in this? Not sure if they have different levels of quality. Will check this out in case
@Pebblycat I think I'll say you don't need to do Ambrosia. Simply because it would add too much to the list of things you have to do. And Quick meals don't count, pretty sure they don't have a quality and aren't dependent on skill. I will count the outdoor grilled stuff, though. All excellent questions. I will add a note in the rules about not needing to do Ambrosia.
I am almost finished with my second geration now. But I am having glitches left and right so it's kind of driving me crazy. It seems like my game messes up when I have toddlers or pets. I've been needing to use resetsim.
Archer married and had two girls. Bryn and Bethany. I decided to have Bethany be the next heir. Bryn just aged to teen and Bethany is a child. I attempted the "have two children completing all aspirations in one generation" goal but I didn't work on it quickly enough and Bryns birthday came around when she was nearly finished with her final one. There's plenty of future generations to try though !
@IllusoryThrall for the outdoor grill food, are you including the grilled salmon? For that you need to catch it. I have been trying on my sims day off but no success yet
My save is kind of driving me crazy lol. I forgot also that halfway through the mom's workday it posts an alert saying "are you sure she should leave work early?" Though I haven't done anything and I have to click no. Happens every single workday. I'm debating on trying a new one and attempting to blog it. Once I'm a full member on here I can share the posts from it.
But then again, the new save will probably have a new set of issues. I wonder if it is because I don't have all the packs.
@Caimar11 It's always okay to reset a sim if you're getting glitches. Sorry your game is giving you fits. I'd love to see the challenge blogged, though! If you post links before you're full member I can re-post with the actual links.
@Pebblycat You can ignore the salmon one, I'll make a note of it. I mean, if you want to catch a salmon and do it, that's fine, but I won't make it necessary.
