Speaking of patches, when do they normally come out? Is it on a specific day of the week? Do you think the Jan patch will come this week? I don’t remember waiting longer than a week or so for a patch to come out.
No I don't think we'll see the patch this week because their waiting till 1 week before Laundry Stuff to release it and there has been no trailer or anything.
We're sadly only getting 1 GP this quarter so where that romance themed coming from ?
I'm not sure how usable cars will work with current game engine, also there was a survey for Cars GP so I don't think they'll patch that for free
But I'm expecting something big, but not as big as toddlers, some valentine day items is expected also..
Romance Themed could be added for free like toddlers
But you have already seen the quartely teaser, and if you are getting any free content like that they have to be in the teaser, remember? Only paid content can be left out of the teasers.

I think you got it the other way around, because toddlers weren't in last year's teaser, even if it was released a week before the toddler patch.

True, but I'm just going by what SimGuruGraham said about patched content having to be in the quarterly teasers. And paid content can be added any time they want to talk about it if they are ready.

How can you be sure Laundry stuff is coming out this month? It could be February.
I also feel like a big update is coming but I won't get my hopes up. Cars are not really a big update for me though since we already had them in previous games the other update two those were big updates especially for me since i knew nothing about it. But a big update for myself would be Tweens (Since I'm very advocate about adding this lifestages in game.)
Burglars (Because I actually miss being robbed and the action of calling the police to catch the burglar. Also Vampires are not burglars.)
Firemen and Police (Firemen because the fire I mean one time my entire house almost burnt down because I forgot to add the sprinkler system I'm plum that give me the firemen. Police like I said with Burglars but also with San Myshuno the noisy neighbors when you pound on door we should have the option to threaten to call police if they don't quiet down and vice versa also if they don't quiet call police and they'll get fined and your relationship with them will go down.
Those are the biggest ones for me.

The toddlers playing with the wash basin is a nice touch. Now if only pets could interact with the laundry stuff too, like dogs playing with the basin, but I doubt it.

The gender patch came out in June 2016, not January, so this is not exactly an annual event.
I like free stuff as much as the next person, and if you look back, they've patched in practically an EP's worth of free content over the years. But in my experience playing online games or games with an online update system, a patch is meant to fix bugs and tune the game. I don't get where the expectation comes from that major new content is going to be added for free with every, or in fact any, patch. People seem to build that expectation up and then many express disappointment when it doesn't happen.

We are not owed free content.
I agree. We shouldn't be expecting anything. To be honest I would rather have big fixes than free stuff. I don't know why every patch month there's predictions of what are we getting free this month? Who can forget Rain gate where people thought we were getting rain and weather with cats and dogs?

no ones saying where owed free stuff here if you don't want to talk about it you don't have to

Maxis did say that ‘new experiences’ would be added every month. That suggests that *something* will be added. (“Something” not being exclusively new content/features) That’s part of the live service, engagement content/features. They have their own team.

That's true, but the assumption that I see pop up over and over that *something* will be of the impact and complexity of toddlers or the gender changes is highly unrealistic. Sometimes it's a couple of light fixtures. Sometimes it's game tuning.

So I see, not that I’m bothered about laundry. Why are you so sure the base game is getting a huge update? That I’m curious about.
Cause it's got one for the past 2 years in a row and Grant talked like there will be another one coming this year that is free.
As far as I am aware in his latest interview he only said they were going to continue with adding free stuff, not that the updates were going to be huuuuuuge and that it was going to be this month or next month.
If you can dig up the exact sentence where he said we are going to get a huge free update either this month or the next, please come forward.

Well, we only got an EP's worth of content because the base game was lacking in the first place. I'd say most of the stuff included should've been there from the start. Kudos to them for at least trying to get the base game to an acceptable state instead of abandoning it, but I'd say that should've been expected of them. So it's not like the updates are a bonus, except maybe for the gender patch.
