I would necessarily say it's upsetting that the skill has been moved to base game as now those who cannot afford expansions ca enjoy it, but it does devalue get to work for me. The detective career doesn't work (it's unplayable for me), and now my favourite feature from the pack is free. Feels like I threw money away a little bit. The patch overall is great this month though, I'm very excited to play around with the roofs
I agree. I'm not mad that everyone else gets photography. I think it's a really cool feature and should be added to base game from the beginning or from a patch. I'm glad others get to enjoy it.
But I think GTW owners should get some love too. The careers are so broken and the pack was already kinda half baked from the start. So, now it feels like photography isn't even part of it anymore (expect for that big photobooth set). The least they could do is give GTW owners some free items in the pack or fix the horrible bugs.
Also does it upset people that some people had to pay for photography. I’m not to mad about it but one of the reasons I did buy get to work was for the photography. So now that people don’t have to pay it’s just kinda meh. Again I don’t care that much it just seems kind weird.
Personally when I bought GW (or whatever pack it came with) taking pictures wasn't my reason for purchase. Cell phones are cameras, cell phones came with base game. To me it was more weird that it wasn't already part of the base game.
Saying "not to be rude", then blatently being rude does not excuse rude behavior.
I'm happy that everyone has access to photography now! It's one of the coolest skills in my opinion and it only strengthens the base game! I love taking pictures and making photo walls, and it was a bit weird to me we couldn't do that in the base game which has photo taking interactions where you can't keep the photo!
I don’t mind. Plus I got GTW on a Black Friday sale. And It’s just one skill.
If they added one of the careers or something major, then I’d be annoyed. But I’m happy for those who got photography for free.
Can’t wait to see the cute pictures people will take of their sim pets

I'm going to say i'm happy about it but they should try and fix those bugs for GTW players. I'm happy because now I don't have spend 20 minutes making CC so I can have my pics in game. (Yep that was my way around it.)

At the very least they should fix the bugs of GTW. Ignoring the bugs of GTW (professions and retail) is already hard to swallow, adding the PH skill in the base game is just adding insult to injury. It's cool that everyone gets it, what's not cool is that other people paid to get that stuff (regardless if that was the reason you got the EP or not), and yet professions and retail is still broken. Again, my questions to the devs, are we paying for a broken game? Moreso, will we getting more stuff converted to base game from existing packs just so EA will get more people to their new EPs?
Seriously though, this wouldn't have been an issue with me, if the professions in GTW was play-able. Now it feels like GTW is more of a game pack than an expansion pack.
The way I see it, I would rather have paid money to get it 2.5 years ago and have spent all this time playing with it, than waited to get it free now. The years you get to use a feature that others couldn't are worth something. People get these games on sale all the time as well, there will often be people who have paid less than you for the same amount of content. Ultimately other people having access to this feature doesn't take anything away from me but it does open it up to be improved down the line.
I'm not bothered by it at all...I didn't pay $40 for just the photography skill, in fact I don't think I even knew that was coming until I got the game. I'm not gonna let someone getting a small half skill for free bother me. If they got one of the major careers, that might be a different story.
I do think, though, that it's unfortunate that a lot of people are still having bugs with the careers. It'd be great if they could fix that up.....I haven't noticed any issues yet but I'll be honest, I've hardly touched the detective career yet.
I'm upset because I got get to work and I have boring careers, flood of alien townie not even remotely hiding even though it's supposed to be a secret and photo now base game. I feel ripped off.

A sale is different from giving it away for free. It devalues the pack even more. I'm sorry but with this logic, I can see why they won't give the other skills that are locked in a pack free as well. Why not, right? This update is great, yes it has new bugs that comes with it, but that's normal. New bugs always comes out with new patches. But I just think there was reason why they should give the skill away for free when others have already paid for it, other than the fact that they wanted more people to get Cats and Dogs. Which I think is crazy, because even if you cannot take photos of your pets people will still buy it.

True, but the pack should have been less than $40 without the skill in that case.
I dunno, maybe I'm misreading, but it seems like some people are unhappy with it purely because they were unhappy with GTW in the first place and were never satisfied with the purchase, so this is like salt in the already existing wound.
I'm not bothered by this at all... Since I rarely use the feature. However I do understand where a few people are coming at, yeah? I paid for the expansion back and taking something that was solely exclusive to it? Is kind of a bit of a sore thumb... They honestly should have made photography skill a base game before GTW was released and I doubt people would not be a bit sore thumb.
Like I said not exactly salty about this and hurrah for those who didn't get to get to work or just have a base game. Hopefully they don't start stripping things that were meant for a gamepack/stuffpack/expansion to the base game. Or at least make it free when they announce the new stuff.

True, but the pack should have been less than $40 without the skill in that case.
I disagree. I don't think the photography skill was necessary enough to the pack to warrant the $40 cost. I think they could have easily left that out entirely and still have sold it for $40. I love the photography skill but I don't think it offers enough gameplay/content to have had any significant amount of impact on the overall cost of the expansion. There are some new items but in reality the most complex thing it really added was some new poses. The photography skill itself did not make or break the pack. Now, having said that, I CAN understand how people who have an overall buggy GTW game are disappointed that the one piece that works for them is being given away while nothing's been done to fix their bugs. I do think that if the rest of the game ran perfectly without a single bug, this would be a non-issue for many people. But as Triplis said, I think the fact that the game isn't playable for a lot of people (at least one of the careers which was a major selling point of the game) is making this a bigger deal than it really is. Overall I do understand what everyone is saying, but I don't think that skill alone is worth fussing over. That's just my opinion though.
Now that you say it... I never liked GTW... Photography would be a reason I'd recommend it, and now that it's base game I really can't recommend that EP...
I'm actually excited that photography has moved to the base game - and I bought GTW when it came out - BECAUSE now it might finally get priority in fixes and updates.
There has been a long standing intermittent issue of photos hanging in houses causing the house to appear as having CC when it doesn't- possibly this was partially due to photography being exclusive to an EP - and it's not a predictable object like a build/buy object or a crafted object that always looks the same, each photo is completely unique. With photos now being base game, hopefully this doesn't happen anymore, and if it does, it might get looked at sooner since it will impact More people.
When toddlers were added to the game they were virtually unphotoable largely due to camera height - during one of the live streams they said that to make puppies/kittens visible to the camera they had to adjust how low it could go - this inclided adjusting the photo camera so you could simstagram pets - so I'm incredibly hopeful that photos of toddlers are potentially a feasible thing to add - AND since now everyone will have it, it becomes a more likely thing for them to spend their time on. They were not going to add toddler photography for free JUST for the people who owned get to work - too much work/effort for limited pay off. I'm not saying that too be negative, it's just a business reality.
And while get to work bugs have long been a source of frustration - they are gradually being fixed as similar features are added to other packs. Dine out brought a bunch of fixes to get to work, looks like cats and dogs did as well due to ownable vet clinics operating on a somewhat similar dynamic. City living brought some career fixes to get to work as well. The recent patch fixing simulation lag should help get to work a ton, they finally readjusted the alien abduction back up a smidge, to make it something that happens again (I have a file with a male sim I wanted abducted. He has a half alien sister, who has a full alien husband who is also his best friend. He is in the science career, space rocks on lot and in inventory. Uses the satellite to contact aliens after every cool off. It's been a year in real life time, he has still not been abducted once...i haven't played with him post patch yet because I've been messing with roofing but I am very hopeful that he might actually get abducted now). That this happened after vampires released, and occult sim ui updated, is not a coincidence.
Base game features have always gotten more priority in fixes and updates then pack features. It was this way in the sims 3 as well. Usually game breaking stuff gets addressed - that get to work has had so many issues for so long is frustrating to many, it is a pack with tons of potential that just isn't functioning the way it should, but it was also the first pack, and all of that feedback has improved future packs, and as those release get to work is slowly fixed piece by piece.
There is a lot of object recycling in the sims. This isn't new to the sims 4 but I think the graphic style makes it more noticeable. For instance - the buffet tables and fountain from luxury party - guess what they used the same model and animation for the city living festival tea. Base game objects where restyled for city living flea market objects. There is a bush with purple flowers in Brindleton Bay (world object not build/buy) that pets can search for items - it re-uses modeling and animation from the get together bush. Doing this allows them to spend their time and resources adding more content, rather than creating everything from scratch, animation is extremely expensive in terms of time and budget, especially because it has to be done seperatly for multiple models of sims (height differences in age groups, etc).
Dineout added a simstagram feature for experimental food that reused cellphone photography animation, but it wasn't a full fledged photography option (you didn't actually control the picture using the photography mechanic, the sim just animated like they were taking a pic using the phone and then a generic photo of that food item appeared in your inventory) and it was kind of disappointing, I would far rather have had my sim take an actual photo. But because photography was get to work exclusive that wasn't something that the production team could include. So even though I had get to work, when I added dineout I couldn't combine them the way I would have liked. If pet photos had worked similarly I would have been VERY dissapointed - and I understand why the team would want to include photos and pets - photos of pets is very much a thing, especially in the Internet age! If you are going to put your pet in a shark costume you are going to take a photo of it. Hopefully now that photography is base game, we can see more developed simstagram features in future packs.
So TlDR - photography as a base game feature is good news for anyone who loves photography but has had glitches or who loves photography and wants to see it further expanded on.

I believe the main reason they added the photography skill was for sims to take photos and sell them (part of the retail section). Same with the baking skill, since it can be tied to the retail feature.

Yep, that's what the patch did: carried the photography skill to the base game.

I don't use MCCC.
