UK - Help me find a new computer? Pretty please?

(Yussss! Finally a proper member!)
My all in one compooper has succumbed to a blank screen issue, and since it could be a myriad of things, I've decided to look into getting a new (to me) computer.
All I need right now is something sort of basic (aka: cheap as chips), but ideally also something I can upgrade the components as and when I can afford to. I want to be able to play all the different Sims on it too, without much issue. I'm going back to college in a few weeks (an art course), so I'll also be using it for research, and whatever else that is college-y (it's been 10 years, I have 0 clue), and also using Inkscape, and GIMP.
Normally I'd google around to find something, and compare all the things I'm hoping for, but nothing beats asking someone just knows this kind of thing.

Is that the absolute minimum? That price (while I could shell out for it) isn't really within my means right now.
The one specified has discounted by £375.00 (30%) in the last few days anyway so it looks like PC manufacturers are now revving up for the Christmas season with new gear and you never know but that you might have some luck asking them.
@phoebebebe13 I looked at the specs. and am loving the one with the 27 inch screen for £981.
I'm just waiting for that Gamescom announcement to see if we get any information about Sims 4 future first.

For a whole set up that is actually cheap. You could buy a tower and hook it up to a TV with an HDMI cord and use the TV as your monitor. Not go for a monitor and buy one later and save some money
That computer I posted meets recommended requirements to run the game. That is what you want is to make sure your computer meets requirements. . Custom is the best way to go where you pick out all your own hardware but that is more money
the Lenovo ideapad 510 is not a gaming laptop at all. It is designed for light computer tasks not running 3d games like the sims. Just because it can run the game does not mean it should run the game. As I said just because it will run does not mean you should push it to run. Why I posted that article and what can happen to your under-powered computer
All 3D games have gaming computer hardware requirements. Those requirements are for desktop not laptop. Laptop hardware is weaker than desktop hardware. This game requires a mid range gaming desktop. To play on laptop you need a higher end gaming laptop to meet the game's requirements on desktop.
When you play on laptop it needs to meet the recommended requirements on desktop. You can't upgrade a laptop. You are stuck with the specs you buy. This game is not complete. If your laptop is below requirements just a patch or the next ep could do your laptop in to where the game will no longer play. You then either have to quit playing the game or buy a new computer should you want to continue playing.
When we help in tech we are not going to advise people to buy a computer that may not last the whole game and does not meet requirements to run the game
Looks like I'm going to have to take a little sabbatical from playing the Sims for a few years. Although, I doubt I would need as powerful a machine to stick to the original Sims, and possibly Sims 2?
Also, it would be a great help if you could point me in the direction of info about storing games on an external hdd. I've taken the hard drive out of my AIO and it's now in an enclosure ready to use with my next desktop/laptop, so I thought I would use it for non-essential things.
External hard drive works the same as a USB flash drive . You would hook it up to your computer and drag files from your computer's internal hard drive to the external hard drive.
You can't play the game on an external hard drive. The game would need to be installed on a computer's internal hard drive. If you get a new computer you would have to install the sims 4 from scratch. You can save your old files from previous games on an external hard drive to later transfer to your new computer. I don't have the game installed but @rosemow can tell you which files you should save to your external hard drive to later transfer to a new computer

Your sims 4 game is linked to your origin account. When you get your new computer, dowload and install Origin onto it. Then log into origin on your new computer using the same account that you used to register the game and packs on the old computer , then click on the Games Library section, click on the sims 4 picture, then download/install it there. Then click the extra content button that is half way down the page. That will take you to a screen that shows you what game packs, stuff packs and eps you own. You can then download/install them there.
Make a copy of your sims 4 folder on your old computer that is in Documents > Electronic Arts > ( then The Sims 4 folder is there ) and place it on an external drive.
Then after installing the sims 4 game onto the new computer, play it once to generate a new sims 4 folder.
In your sims 4 folder are your saves folder ( contains your save games) and the tray folder ( which contains your lots and households that you have uploaded to your library or have downloaded from the community gallery ) Replace the saves, tray, mods, custom music and screenshots folders that are in the new sims 4 folder with the same folders that are in the sims 4 folder on your external drive. You will then have your old save games and creations etc on your new computer.

Although it's looking likely that my next computer won't be powerful enough for any of the newer Sims versions, and I'll be playing Sims 1 + 2. I assume this is different as those games were disc based.

Sims 1 and 2 dont have the computer system requirements that are needed to run Sims 3 and 4.
