The Runaways (An orphan survival story)

Amelia and Sarah Olvera were once part of a happy family. Their mother was loving and kind, and their father worked hard every day. However, one day Amelia and Sarah's mother fell ill with a mutated strain of the Llama Flu, and there was nothing the doctors could do for her. After their mother passed, their father grew short tempered and abusive to his daughters. Finally, Amelia had had enough. She stayed up late waiting for her father to go to sleep, and once she heard his rumbling snores she leaped out of bed and packed a bag. When she was ready, Amelia quietly awoke her younger sister and instructed her to pack her suitcase, quickly. While Sarah packed, Amelia sneaked into her father's bedroom and snatched her mother's jewelry box. Quietly the two sisters slipped out of the house and started running.

The girls kept running until they could run no more, and found themselves in a town called Willow Creek. For a few days the girls wandered the streets of Willow creek, until finally a wealthy couple inquired about their story, and where their parents were. Before Sarah could say anything, Amelia quickly said that both their parents were dead, and had left nothing behind for them. Amelia was able to convince the couple to buy their mother's jewelry, and the money they received was just enough for an empty lot to call their own. The girls scrounged up enough money for a cheap air mattress to share, and a cooler to keep snacks in. Although Sarah missed home, Amelia knew it was better this way. She knew that this way, they would be safe and free to live their lives.

Part 1: Nature
Amelia and Sarah had no way to make money at first, until they realized that they would have to be a bit more creative. The two girls set to work at the river near their new "home". Although they couldn't catch anything too big, they knew that even the little fish would fetch for a few Simoleons each. After fishing for a few hours, Amelia began searching the neighborhood for plants and collectibles, anything that could be sold. She had something of a green thumb, and knew that if she could get them to grow, plants would provide food and a bit of money for the girls. Amelia told Sarah to do her homework, because even though they couldn't afford school for both of them Sarah still needed to work hard for a good future.

By the time Amelia had finished her search, a swarm of people had apparently started something of a party near Sarah, who was hard at work on her homework. These strangers cooked a lot of food, however, so the two girls were able to eat their leftovers. At the end of the day, Amelia and Sarah had gotten enough Simoleons to buy Sarah a drawing table, as art and creativity were her passions. They also figured that they could sell the drawings for a couple Simoleons each, if nothing else. Exhausted, the two girls collapsed into bed.

    Part 2: Plumbing!
The two runaway's days started early, with both munching on some cereal at dawn. Amelia was in a good mood because she loved being outside, and waking up to the clear morning air always made her happy. Soon it was time for Sarah to go to school, meanwhile Amelia kept herself busy with her small garden.

One added benefit to Sarah going to school was that at least she could get a good meal while she was there. Amelia, on the other hand, went to the local gym to take a shower and was able to get some free food from a group picnicking nearby.

Shortly after Amelia came home from her trip to the gym, Sarah arrived after her school day. Her older sister asked how her day in her new school went, and Sarah said that she didn't participate in class much because she was busy making friends, but her teachers still gave her credit for turning in her homework. Amelia shook her head, thinking to herself that Sarah had always been a bit of a dreamer. While Amelia searched for collectibles in the neighborhood and bred some frogs, Sarah sat down at her drawing table and got to work. Her art wasn't worth much now, she told herself, but one day when she was older she would become a great artist.

Soon Amelia was running back home, a large jewel in her hand. She had found several expensive gems, and the two girls sold them right away. Finally the two girls could afford their own toilet and shower! Now all they needed was walls!

    Part 3: Outhouse
In all the excitement over their shower, Sarah had completely forgotten about her homework! She sat on the bed and quickly began her work, which her loving big sister helped with. They didn't have any parents to ask, after all.

As Amelia settled in to bed, Sarah gathered up the trash and threw it in the nearby trash can. Sarah took a moment to think of what she might be doing now if she hadn't run away with her sister. Probably being yelled at and locked in her room, she told herself. But then, at least she had a room. Sarah pushed her sorrows aside and climbed into bed with Amelia.

Sarah and Amelia awoke for another day of living as a runaway, although at least now they had a toilet of their own. After Sarah went to school, Amelia sat down with some cereal.

Once she had finished her breakfast, Amelia got to work searching the neighborhood for anything that they could sell. She dug up crystals and scoured the area for anything of worth. Just as Sarah was returning from school, Amelia happened upon some roses in full bloom. She picked all that she could and even planted a few in their garden.

With everything that Amelia had found, the girls managed to make over $1,000 selling all of it! Immediately, Sarah begged for toys to play with. She's still just a child, Amelia thought to herself as she gave the toy store owner money for the little toys.

Of course, Amelia knew there was something that the two girls desperately needed much more than toys--Walls. Shelling out their hard-earned cash, the two girls soon had a functioning bathroom... that looked something like an outhouse. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing!

With still some Simoleons left over, the girls found a bargain fridge, stove, radio, and small counter. Amelia was ecstatic. She could finally cook all these ingredients she had been growing! Hopefully she didn't burn down what little of a house they had. The two girls were well on their way to a proper living space.
