Sims 4 Studio: New Beta Version Ready

The Swimsuit Edition of Sims 4 Studio is now stable and the new Sims 4 Studio beta is ready to go. We're pleased to give you a very different and incredibly improved version of the Sims 4 Studio with this beta!

How is the new beta different and improved you ask? Well, what's new in this version, that everyone familiar with Sims 4 Studio will notice immediately, is a significant increase in performance and overall functionality. The library at the foundation of the tool has been completely rewritten to support the framework of the user-interface rich nature of Sims 4 Studio thoroughly. Because it was written specifically for Sims 4 Studio, this new library allows the tool to work more smoothly and far more quickly. Although this code change effectively makes Sims 4 Studio a brand new tool, the team's emphasis on creator workflow has not changed. Like past updates this one has been guided by our community and contains many features members of Sims 4 Studio Forums requested or suggested. So, with no further ado, on to the good stuff!

Global changes, in addition to a massive improvement in speed, we've also included localization to support the use of many languages for the tool's buttons and menus. You can now select the language of your choice for display within the settings menu. The tool also now allows file association, enabling you to right click on a .package and choose Sims 4 Studio as the program that always opens .packages. There is new support for any image type that manages transparency so, for example, if you prefer to use .png in place of .dds you can. And, as many creators have requested, there are changes to the "save" capabilities of Sims 4 Studio including "Save As" and a Save menu in the top bar. Saving won't toss you back to the home screen anymore either so you can save your work and continue adding to your project without interruption.

CAS meshing and Recoloring has also been augmented. The tool will now automatically fix meshes so they won't trigger EA's "Intel hair crash" bug. To fix a mesh just open it in Studio and hit the Save button...yep, it really is that easy! Hat cloning has been enabled and alpha tests indicate hats are working with the slider (yay!). Studio is now pulling the bump map for new CAS meshes into the .package so it can be edited, along with the shadow map, using s4pe. Many members have indicated they want improved swatch scrolling for the addition of many swatches to meshes and recolors. It's in there and you can now add as many as you want (or as the game will allow).

Last, but not least, Wall recolorists will be happy to know we've answered the many requests for multiple color choices for swatch thumbnails. The tool now manages up to 3 colors per swatch thumbnail. Wall bump and specular maps have always been pulled into the .package but now, for the first time, you can you can swap them in Studio and even do a batch export of all image resources associated with a wall including bump and specular. Just choose a destination folder, press save, and Studio will export them conveniently named for easy identification.
