Welcome to Build-n-Share. #BNS 177 A Home for Everyone
The man who enters your office is dressed casually in a t-shirt, jeans and work boots, but still manages to project an air of confidence and authority. He holds out his hand for a shake. “Hello. I’m Abel Walker from the Homes for Everyone Foundation. I was referred here by the folks at the Hawthorne Project.”
“Oh yes, I’ve been expecting you,” You reply. “How can I help?”
“Let me start by explaining - my company helps disabled people build new homes suited to their needs or adapt existing ones. We’ve helped veterans, accident victims, families with children who have mobility issues, adults who grew up with chronic conditions - you name it.”
“That sounds very admirable.”
Mr Walker nods. “I have three clients who need help right now. We could use another architect to help us keep up with the demand, and I was hoping you’d be that person.”
“Of course. Tell me about your clients. We’ll have them in their new places by the end of the month.”
“Just in time for Disability Awareness Month,” Mr. Walker notes. “Here’s all the information… “
Client 1: Johannes Peura, age 70, retired: Mr. Peura walks with a cane and has difficulty navigating stairs. He would prefer his home to be all on one level. He also has arthritis and would prefer to avoid knobs whenever possible. Sinks, doors and cabinets should have levels or handles he can easily pull or push. He is also going blind and needs his home to be brightly lit without being too bright. Big windows are ideal to help keep electricity bills low. Rounded edges where possible will help prevent injury.
Client 2: Jared and Maya Hong: Maya has been confined to a wheelchair her entire life and cannot walk. She would prefer an open floor plan with wide hallways and doorways to make it easier to maneuver. Rugs should be kept to a minimum and taped or tacked down so they won’t catch on the wheels of her chair. A shower she can easily get into and out of is a must. Light switches should be low enough to be easily reached from a seated position. Her front steps need to be replaced with a ramp. Jared and Maya have 4 children, and Maya would like to be able to move easily around their rooms.
Client 3: The Kaur family: 9 year old Delshad Kaur was injured in a skiing accident Delshad can stand for brief periods but cannot walk. Parents Gobind and Mahinder want to move their child’s bedroom to the first floor and add an attached bath so Delshad won’t have so fr to go to get to the bathroom. They need lots of storage space throughout the house so nothing is left out that can be stepped on or tripped over. Delshad also needs a desk and computer in the bedroom for studying. Provide plenty of activities Delshad can do while seated.
The Brief: Pick one of the three families to build for. Make sure to meet all of the client’s unique needs. You can makeover an existing house or build new, just let us know which option you chose.
Budget: $130,000
All houses need a kitchen, dining room, living room, at least two bathrooms, and enough bedrooms for all family members.
Remember to landscape.
You can use terrain tools and paint to create ramps as needed.
If you’re building a two-story home for the Kaurs or Hongs, you’re welcome to either use cc elevators or designate a 2x2 room with a door as an elevator on each floor.
The Sim Challenge: Create your client(s) You can pick their traits, likes, dislikes, aspirations, and any custom gender settings. Delshad can be either a boy or a girl. You can create more relatives for Mr. Phillips or the Kaurs. You may want to use cc for wheelchairs, knee braces, etc. Here is one good source, there may be others if you search: Custom Content for Sims with disabilities – Katverse
Show their outfits.
Show them enjoying their new homes.
The room challenge: Create the living room for your chosen client; Budget; $15,000
Remember to include the hashtag #bns177 with your build or it will not be judged! Entries are due by Saturday, 30th September, 2023, 23:5:59 New York Time/EST.

Comments
The Build-n-Share challenges will be posted at the start of each month and will run until the end of that month. Results will be posted in the Winner's Circle thread. Look for results after the deadline.
And you can keep up to date with challenge details and winners on our social media:
In all categories, we put an equal value on landscaping, aesthetics, architecture and interior design, with a nod toward playability.
If you are new to BuildnShare, we recommend that you leave your entry category empty this way the BnS team can take a look at your entry and place you in a category appropriate to your skills.
Starting Out - if you are new to building in TS4, this is where you should enter. Things we look for at this level are appropriate room sizes, cohesive exterior style, use of plants that reflect the style of the build and complimentary colours. Pictures should be well organize and provide a complete overviewthe of build
Established - we recommend entering at this level if you have been promoted from Starting Out. Things looked for over and above Starting Out are, thought as to how the build will ultimately play, good roof lines, use of terrain paints, cohesive interiors and good object choice and placement. Pictures should be well organised, well lit and labelled.
Expert - we recommend entering at this level if you have been promoted from Established. Things we look for at this level, over and above Established are interesting architecture, thought given to interior and exterior decorative details, creation of livable outdoor spaces. Pictures should have good angles, making good use of camera control options.
Master - Expert category judges and any entrants who have won 1st Place multiple times at the Expert level should enter in this category.
A note of caution, just because you have used something mentioned in a category, does not necessarily mean that you automatically fit in that category. If you are unsure, please tag us and ask for our advice as to where we would place you. Also, we do not advise that you bump yourself up in levels, especially if you are new and we have placed you in a category. We will always promote when we feel you are ready and have no more left to learn in your current category.
The benefits
First place will be awarded at all levels. If there are at least eight entries in a category, up to four places will also be announced. Challenges also create an opportunity for community on the forum site. We get to know one another's names, share news, builds, and positive words. This is a chance to get your name out there, and hopefully make a few friends along the way.
What makes this challenge different from all the other ones I've seen?
We have been hosting this challenge since the first week the game was released. We have many levels of builders in our community and welcome them all. This group is truly a product of all its great members!
Within the first few challenges, our group was recognized by the gurus that be, who have helped the weekly challenges gain even more popularity be stickying both BuildnShare threads. Since then, we have had at least one featured creation almost every week, and our list of featured members continues to grow.
With 5 successful collaborative neighborhoods (Gnomelandia, Summer of Love, NYC, Sanshi Sumei and Olde Fairy Tale Village ) completed, BuildnShare hopes to bring more creative challenges and new neighborhood ideas to the community with the help of our dedicated participants who willingly contribute and help each week to make sure each challenge runs smoothly.
Big thanks to @masajo for keeping this up to date!

That is a neat idea, Sparkle! Maybe we can incorporate that as a mini/optional challenge within the main building challenge each week
Woohoo - rare Anjubee sighting
We are a Sims 3/Sims4 community that works together to improve our building, landscaping, and design skills through a bi-weekly design challenge. Individual feedback on each lot from our fantastic volunteer judges as well as challenge winners (from 3 to 5 depending on the number of entrants) for each category are provided for each design challenge.
Hope you'll join us in the fun!
