Weealbet regarding your sims swimming 3 stories in the air. Before you place your dive lot you are importing, have you tried the cheat SetImportedTerrainOffset? I am still experimenting with it and have had some success. The success I have had so far was when I had a lot that was about 2 floors below ground level and I used a positive number. So I assume you'd need a negative number if the lot is too high.

Just in case you want to try it out and haven't used it yet the combination of cheats is

    TestingCheatsEnabled True
    ConstrainFloorElevation False
SetImportedTerrainOffset -3. I put the minus 3 there as a guess use whatever number you think appropriate.

You need to enter the cheats before you start importing the lot and I think you need to be in edit town mode.

You need to turn the cheats off once you have imported the lot.

I was have having the same problem on some of my imports. I will have to give this a try.

I haven't even heard of that last cheat! I will have to have a play about with this! Thank you so much! I'll try it later on and see what happens and let you know. Thank you! :D

Well I can tell you that my casino that was 3 stories above the waterline is now sitting nicely just above it.

Further investigation has revealed that whilst it works beautifully on land, I am having no luck with it in the ocean.

This is the source of my information on it. There are a lot of other posts on it if you want to google the cheat. SetImportedTerrainOffset

I think I may have just replied to your thread, I'm not too sure lol.

When you place the lot are you returning to the Main Menu and reloading that save? Your diving lot won't look right until you reload. There is like a blue-ish hue over the sea bed until you reload.

I have not done this yet, so I will try that tonight. Thanks!

Great video tutorial, I enjoyed watching it and learned a great deal.

I gave it a go in Sunlit Tides but am having a little trouble with the surface sharks not appearing. Do they take a while to spawn once you start playing it or are they supposed to immediately appear?

If they take a while, then I can breathe a sigh of relief

I haven't put anything else on the lot yet, I was just testing to see if it worked, so was not in there for long.

I'm assuming that you placed the spawners but surface sharks can take a little while to appear. You should see them if not instantly, then a little while after the spawners have been placed :)

The same with the minnow schools from the fog emittors. They don't instantly appear either, but they turn up after a short while. Sometimes at the best moments too! Earlier one I was recording a goofy video for Twitter with Under the Sea playing and she minnow swam up to my 'Ariel' mermaid at the perfect moment!

Sorry, but yeah, give them a little bit of time and they should appear :)

Thank you so much for this. I have been having the most fun that I ever have had with the Sims 3! I have only got one done in Sunlit tides so far, its a large lot 64x64. I was surprised that Sims will only dive so deep, I guess I got carried away with my trench.

I will try to post some dive shots once my computer gets done updating. Again thank you so much for the joy you have given to my game play.

You are very welcome! I have to admit, I find making them fun too! I am not a builder in the game, but I love how easy it is to knock one of these out and feel happy with how it looks!

Have you tried adding in any of the other objects in yet? I was building Diving Areas in Bridgeport and I didn't want it to look so clean and pristine like all the other worlds. I started adding the junk piles and car wreckage in too! I was happy with how it all looked!

While looking for trashy and dirty stuff I found a sunken boat wreckage (the one behind the volcano in ST) and it works so well for Diving Areas!

You don't know what it means to me you saying that I have helped you enjoy your game! I really can't thank you enough! Thank you! :D I would love to see what you have done with it too!! :D

Well I decided to have another go at that cheat this morning and I can't get it to work in the ocean yet.

Here is the link with instructions I used to get it to work previously.

    http://oumamea-the-sims3.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/problems-with-lots-sinking-into-ground.html

There is more information in this than I gave in my post above.

Once I move out into the ocean in IP this is all I get. I'm either doing something wrong or it doesn't work in the ocean.

    CasinoIP_High_zps53595f6a.jpg

EDIT: It seems my problem is caused by the fact that my building has 4 basements. It is sitting the bottom basement on top of the lot as if the floor of the bottom basement is supposed to be at ground level. So I deleted the basements and the foundation and I ended up with a really surreal image of a floating building with transparent floors and circular staircases starting and ending in space. So I think I'll give up on this building and maybe have another go with some other simpler build.

I'd be interested to hear how you all go trying to sort out your dive lots with this cheat. I haven't done much with diving so far.

BTW: I tried this is IP and Sunlit Tides.

On another subject, Weealbet I promised you I'd check out Luna Lakes. Well I just did and I can't place a lot on the biggest lake I could find. It says can't place on lakes (or something similar) I think it is safe to say you can't put dive lots in Luna Lakes.

Here is a picture of the biggest body of water I could find in LL.

    Screenshot-219_zps801802ea.jpg

It is a world I don't play much as it is way too small.

I just did a bit more checking and tried to place a 64x64 lot on each lake in town. None of the other lakes are big enough to take a 64x64 lot, and they all give an error that you can't place it on a lake.

Karritz, thank you for that link! I shall have a little try of it soon, I'm just wrapping up on another (related) project and I don't want to get my self all muddled up lol.

Thank you for testing that in LL too! Another Simmer said the exact same as you, so it's good that a few people are coming back saying the same thing. Thank you :D

Oh! I completely forgot! Walls do not play nice under the water. Basements walls will stretch another level above them, and the ground floor wall with stretch to the surface of the water.

Yeah, I did place the spawners :D

I guess they must take a long while in my game - I added more into my Lot and tested it again for almost 3 sim days and still nothing spawned. I got no surface sharks, no underwater sharks, no collectables etc. Patience is not my strong point lol. I think I'll go visit one of EA's dive lots in IP and see if there are any showing in those...

Wanted to ask, do you know what the second one of these fog emitter codes does?

    EP10OceanLightRays
    ep10FishOceanOuterFX
    ep10MinnowSchoolA
    ep10MinnowSchoolB
    ep10MinnowSchoolC

I find it quite difficult to build underwater. Not only is the camera constantly popping me above, but the items placed do not show up until you get closer so it's hard to get an overall picture of what you're doing (using a 64x64). What is the smallest Lot you have used so far? Just thinking maybe I should start with a small one, but I don't want it to look ridiculous when I play it. Or do you have any tips for sculpting and decorating a large Lot?

Also, do you know where the underwater stairs can be found? I've seen them when I had a mooch in an EA lot, but it wouldn't take me to them in the catalogue when I used the eyedropper tool.

Sorry for the long post. And I almost forgot to say thank you again  Thank you, Weealbet for your hard work in trying these things out, making the video and sharing all the facts.

Hmmm, they shouldn't take too long to spawn. What level did you set the diving lot for? That might influence the appearance of them.

The second code is to spawn fish outside of the lot parameter. I have only seen them spawn once or twice, not all the time though.

I tend to stick with 40x40 lots. I only use 64x64 when I'm placing large world items in them. As for sculpting, I tend to just randomly raise the terrain and lower it to make slight trenches. Then I smooth it out and add some rock/mud terrain paint around or in the trench and line fauna in the trench.

The stairs can be found in Build Mode, Community Objects, Misc. Objects. If you use 'Sort by Features' and choose The Sims 3 Island Paradise, I believe that the stairs are the first item in that section. If not, you will find them in there :)

    And you are very welcome!

That was a fast reply :D Thank you.

I set the diving lot for level 1 so I could test it out without having to get a sim higher.

I just visited an EA lot in IP and I can see schools of minnow and collectables, so my computer must be ok to show them up. I guess I just need to be more patient :D

I'm having great fun doing this, I'm just not very good at it lol. I'm going to try it with a 40x40 now and see if I can manage that better.

Thanks for the info. But they worked perfectly when I put the lot barely touching an existing island.

It was SO much easier doing it on a 40x40 Lot :D Thank you.

I struggled to get a flat lot that I could sculpt in ST so I put one in SV for now, here's my genie enjoying her dive:

    Scuba2.jpg

I still haven't had any sharks/collectables spawning, but you can see I got the fog emitters working with light rays and minnows

What season is your game currently on? And what was its weather conditions like? The Ocean Light Rays don't actually create any form of light, they are only there to add depth and atmosphere to the water. There isn't any item in game (other than standard lights) which can light up the lot. I would maybe see if it becomes clearer after a day or so?

It was summer time when I was playing. Doesn't seem to make a difference if it is night or day either. I will see if it sorts itself then in a couple of sim days, or next time I start up the game. I have tried replacing the lot several times. Saving, going back to the main menu, and reloading a couple of times too. So far nothing has lit it up. It isn't unplayable, but would be cool to see more of it not in dark shadows as I look around.

Thanks again for the tutorial though. Even with this darkness it is much better than the pesky lag of IP. And I can also build my own lot without that kelp driving me nuts in my vision and giving me a headache as I look around. Lol.

Could you post a picture of this please, if you can. The game does change the way we can see things while under water. There have been a few times that it seems to get really murky, but it clears itself up again. Usually by zooming in a little, or if the weather changes.

Thank you! I am glad that people are able to enjoy this feature outside of IP. But I'm also wanting you to be able to enjoy it too.

Sorry for the delay, have been distracted from simming for a bit. I would love to be able to post pictures of it. But bad news is I didn't take any. The good news side of that is that the problem sorted itself out the second time I reloaded the game since I made the lot. So the take away for others having the same kind of issue is that it appears to be a temporary condition and eventually your town/save file will load the lighting underwater better.

I went into buydebug and got a square piece of daylight and put some of that in my dive lot. I didn't put it everywhere as I wanted the ocean light effects to be there in places too. The extra light helps if you want to take pictures or movies.

Tried to access your tutorial video and I see you have locked it to private access? Why on earth would you do this? How can I watch the tutorial?

    Update:
Several hours later the video is accessible again, I appreciate that. I am almost shocked at how lengthy it is but do appreciate you taking out the (insane) amount of time to explain it. Thanks again.

I am so happy, after lots of trials and errors I finally made a diving lot in Barnacle bay :)

When I went to take screenies, even the townies were using it and a mermaid joined in too. This is a brand new save to make the diving lot.

Barnacle Bay is a great place to dive. When I first sent my Sim down there was a mermaid waiting for him.

I had grass on the sea floor though. I see you found a sandy patch to put your dive spot.

Nope I had grass everywhere too, I used the ground spray thingies and sprayed some sand down, and rock and some ocean floor, I did not like just the grass

I was having problems with other YouTubers and Fansites who were wanting to copy my work and use it on their YouTube Channel/site. After having a really bad day on Thursday I went to be and woke up Friday morning to several of these messages in my YouTube Inbox and my Twitter inbox.

As I have been running around different sites answering peoples questions, and firing up the game to test out their questions, I even had a Live Broadcast last week so people could watch what I was doing, ask me questions, or ask me to try something out so they can see for themselves.

I have put an insane amount of time into testing everything out that people have asked. Then there is answering the questions (which are often repeats too). So for people to come to me asking to copy my work for views and subs, it was a huge slap in the face! I was very annoyed and decided I wanted nothing more to do with Diving Lots.

I eventually cooled off and thought about all the people who have sent me messages on here, Twitter, YouTube and other sites thanking me for this and telling me their little stories. THOSE are the things which made everything worthwhile.

As I said before to you when you accused me of scamming people with my Giveaway, I don't do anything for subs or follows. People thanking me and telling me that they are able to enjoy their game because of this was all that is needed.
