Installed Seasons: Game crashes (program error) [specs included!!]

Hi!
So after I installed Seasons, I can't even play the game without it crashing after less than 1-3 minutes. There's a popup window that says (translated the best I could): TS3W.exe - Program Error "The instruction at 0x00e0e05d referenced to memory at 0x00000000. Failed to perform a memory task. The following error was returned: The memory could not be read. Click OK if you want to exit the program."

Looks like this, non-translated:

Don't know if all of this information is needed bc it surely doesn't make any sense to me, but the txt file created in my The Sims 3 folder says:

I thought it was the RAM (virtual memory) that was the problem, but it's 1955 Mb free virtual memory left??? I really don't understand.

I would really, really appreciate help! Want to be able to play now that I just got a new game :c

In another post someone said that increasing the virtual memory fixed the problem. There was a link on how to do it.

Yeah I already read everything from there... but RAM shouldn't be a problem tho, since it's over 1000 MB left to use?? I feel like there is something else. Since it says "TS3W.exe Program Error". Shouldn't it just crash if there was a RAM prob? The popup is the weird thing..

    Hi,

You can try adding the new base game executable to the Data Execution Prevention - or DEP - exceptions list to resolve crashes caused by DEP. In your particular case, the base game executable can be found in the following location:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe

For instructions on how to selectively turn off DEP please refer to the following link:

    http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Data_Execution_Prevention/TS3W

If you have previously applied DEP exceptions, you may need to clear them first before applying the new one.

I just want to bump this, because I seem to have the exact same problem.

    "Exception raised
Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x00e0e05d.
Do you wish to debug it?"

I have 2.37 GB free system memory and I checked the no custom content box the last time I tried, but it didn't make a difference. I'm on a mac (OS X Mountain Lion) and I haven't been able to find a way to add an exception to the Data Execution Prevention on mac (is that even possible?).

I'd be really grateful for any tips. I paid good money for the expansion pack and I haven't been able to play it once. :(

I tried the DEP thing and it didn't work... Still crashes as soon as I begin to play in a household...

It's so annoying because I can't find any forum post about this problem anywhere. And I really want to play, it's been a week since I got the game soon and I haven't even been able to play. Argh.

According to the DXDiag report, your video device is an NVidia GeForce GT 220M and its drivers are dated 5/15/2012. If you have not done so already, it is advised that you visit the ASUSTeK website for the latest video chipset drivers available for your specific laptop model, if any. Having the most up to date video drivers is especially important when adding a game expansion or update.

The report indicates that your C drive or partition has 8.2GB of free space left. Are all of your games installed at this location? If yes, you may wish to see about freeing up more hard disk space where possible.

Ensure you are operating the laptop on a flat surface in a room with a cool temperature. If you have not done so already, invest in a laptop cooling pad available at any computer hardware store. If necessary, use a small vacuum device to dislodge dust accumulation from the intake and exhaust vents. You can also bring the laptop to a computer shop and have it professionally cleaned. When playing the game on the laptop, do so with the power cord plugged in. Ideally, the general operating range of video devices is about 45-65 degrees Celsius. You may also wish to download and install Speedfan, a popular freeware application that can monitor your GPU and system temperatures during gameplay.

Finally, it is advised that you update your Windows 7 OS to the latest service pack, which can be done via Windows Update in your Start menu taskbar.

I have updated my NVIDIA driver now so it's up to date.
The disk space is hard to do anything about since I've tried basically everything to try to free some space so there's nothing left to do except uninstalling EPs which I prefer not to. :/

I don't have a desk in my room so I'll try to find some kind of cooling pad if that would help in my case... I just think it's weird that it's a "program error" on TSW3.exe because usually when there's a temperature problem or something it just crashes without saying anything, at least that has happened to be before but this is something new.

And I've tried to install that service pack 1 thing in Windows Update, but it won't work no matter how many times I try. I get a error message after 24% saying it can't install... (error 800F081F) *EDIT: Seems to work now after I googled the problem and installed some kind of fix.

I'll try now though to see if the NVIDIA update did something..

Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it.

So I downloaded the new NVIDIA and the service pack and keep my laptop on a flat surface but it's still the same problem. A few minutes and then the game freezes and the program error shows up. :(

You can free up some disk space by deleting all files in the DCBackup folder except the ccmerged.package file. The DCBackup folder can be found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. The files are safe to delete and will not affect your installed content.

As a test, you can also try temporarily removing your player data files before relaunching the game. To do so, navigate to the following location:

    Documents/Electronic Arts

Now move (not copy) the folder named The Sims 3 to your Windows desktop. Attempt to run the game and test in a brand new town.

So I can play longer now without getting the error, but I have to save all the time because all of a sudden it crashes.

I'm always deleting the DCBackup files every so often, but the disk space is still not increasing that much. It just gets filled up again. Now it's 5,38GB left so it's less than before. Don't know if that's the problem though because I had 13GB left a couple of days ago after deleting everything on the desktop but it didn't make a difference.

I will try relaunching the game and see if that works.

What does this mean though (from the xcpt file)?

    [Exception info]
    date: 2012-11-24
    time: 18.01.28
    type: ACCESS_VIOLATION writing address 0x00000000
    address: 0x005cf601 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe":0x0001:0x001ce601

I'm assuming that is the problem, I googled it and it seems like there's a location or something that can't be found or something. I'm not sure if I understood it right though. But I wonder if it would work to uninstall all games and install again, maybe?

Have you tried clearing out your Windows temp files? You can check out the following EA Support article for more details:

    https://help.ea.com/article/clearing-your-temporary-files

It may also help to back up the contents of your Downloads folder to DVD disc or other external backup. When you have created the external backup, you can then delete the Downloads folder to free up more disk space - any content that was actually installed into the game itself will still be there. Whenever you wish to reinstall any of your content through the launcher, simply copy the file or files from the backup over to the Downloads folder on the C drive or partition.

That specific error tends to happen when either there is a program bug (not likely or more would have it) or your memory is bad/overheating.

The above suggestions are quick-hitters but not likely causes. Maybe you should run a test of your memory (look into memtest86)

Do you have problems with other games crashing (not simple ones like farmville)? Does the crash occur even if you leave the game paused?

I did clean out the temp files but if only deleted about 1GB of disk space.

    ____

I also ran the system requirement check and passed:

    CPU
Minimum: For XP 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent; For Windows Vista and Windows 7 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    You Have: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz

    CPU Speed
Minimum: For XP 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent; For Windows Vista and Windows 7 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    You Have: 2.2 GHz

    RAM
Minimum: For XP 1 GB RAM / Windows Vista and Windows 7 1.5 GB RAM
    You Have: 4.1 GB

    OS
    Minimum: Windows XP SP2 / Vista SP1 / Windows 7
You Have: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

    Video Card
Minimum: 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0Nvidia GeForce 6 series or better (6100 not supported). ATI Radeon series card 9500 series or better. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA): GMA 3-Series, GMA 4-Series
    You Have: GeForce GT 220M
Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card
    Required You Have
    Pixel Shader version 2.0 4.0
    Vertex Shader version 2.0 4.0
Dedicated Video RAM 128 MB 1.0 GB

    Sound Card
    Minimum: Yes
You Have: NVIDIA High Definition Audio

    Free Disk Space
    Minimum: 4.5 GB
    You Have: 95.9 GB

    ____

There's no tasks running in the background either, at least not what I'm aware of. I tried disabling AVG (antivirus program) but it didn't make a difference. I do run Game Booster before and it's in the backround but it shouldn't interfere, I've done that for ages??

    ___

How do I install memtest86? I went to this page http://www.memtest.org/ but I can't find an .exe download link. Do you mean "bad" as in memory is not enough? Because it was 2083 Mb virtual memory left when it crashed the last time. Overheating is not impossible I guess but I've never had this problem before... The computer should have been extremely overheated before I installed seasons and had over 6GB CC (which I've now deleted except some of it).

The only thing I can think of now is just reinstalling all games which sucks since I don't have access to my games (exchange year, didn't really think it would be necessary to take them with me). Dang.

    bump :c
I tried using a laptop cooler and it still crashes. I noticed that since yesterday it instantly crashes everytime i do a certain action (going to the movies with date) which is kinda weird. I tried removing all downloads too and didn't make a difference. Argh. It just so frustrating because no one seems to have this problem either :(

    Bump!

Actually, a lot of people seem to have this problem on MAC, at least. Here's what's posted on the Answer HQ: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/Mac-Exception-Raised/m-p/215430#M10666

I posted mine there too (the one by "null" because apparently I hadn't selected a user name), as its own thread, but now I can't seem to be able to view that thread alone anymore, it looks like maybe they just put all those questions together or something. All I got was other people saying they have the same problem, though, no solutions.

I'm kind of tempted to try and find some EA support contact and just send them a copy-paste of my post. :/

Didn't see your post until now since I kinda gave up playing, but yeah.

Sounds like a good idea to contact EA support, if you did I'd like to know if they answered you. :)
