Check in the MCCC menu on an ingame computer whether this settings is disabled:

I just installed MC, and I'm trying to figure out why the randomize visiting sims in the population module doesn't seem to be doing anything. I have it set to enabled, have restarted the game, but every lot I go to it's pretty much the same sims. Is there something else I need to enable? I only have the core main command and the population module installed. I have tinkered with the sim filters to stop the game from generating new sims, forcing it to use just mine, but I'm not sure why that would inhibit MCC from creating newly shuffled lists of sims to choose from. Any help where to look would be appreciated; really tired of the same sims. Thanks.
Quick edit: I just tried removing my mods (other than MCC) and got the same results, as in same sims every lot.
One more thing I found. If I try it in a new game, it works fine. But it just will not shuffle in my established game. No idea why that makes a difference.

NM, figured it out. Had to do with celebrities and shoving the same six sims down my throat to start with every time I entered a nightclub. Some background situation. Ugh. Working now.

    PATCHPREP WITH THE EA APP
Some tips and tricks for those, who want to avoid the upcoming patch using the EA App.

How to Prevent Updates But Still Play Sims 4 - click 'show'
If you don't want to update immediately, it might be a good idea to disable Automatic Updates in the EA App before patches are released.
    1. Disable Automatic Game Updates in the EA App as described below
    2. If a patch is released, you get the notification "Update required" under the Sims 4 Tile in your EA App Games Collection. The update won't be downloaded and installed until you manually start it.
      y4mUKp4xc9Ps1L9qkK1p1rHaqCnRwfaoFeja5Yf2mtZHfeyKbjZSFPmmOHRQ6SSnVaA6_3wwLXTx6D7CGT1gffga31ICHc8E5MK2dXkAeIN26CYyRR9hJBPJwTuzaIJeON4ODrviSh40wspGGk_e8l22OLUdoi2rcF48L74Bu5fFBKPWzlYZXhXqZaIwWzjsZOw?width=952&height=699&cropmode=none
    3. Unfortunately, in that state you can't choose to start the game, only to download the announced update.
    4. Switch the EA App to Offline Mode as described below
    5. You can now play your Game without being forced to patch it
Note: You can go on using this mode as long as you don't add any EA pack to your game. If you want to add an additional pack, patching is mandatory.

How to switch the EA App to Offline Mode - click 'show'
There were some confusion because of the missing offline mode in the EA App beta version. You can do this now. Here is a short tutorial how to set the EA App offline:
    1. Open the EA App
    2. Click on the menu icon (triple bar) in the upper left window corner and select "Go Offline"

    3. Confirm the message "Are you sure you want to go offline?"

    4. As confirmation, you will see the "You are offline" screen and the string "EA - Offline" in the the EA App window title bar

    UPCOMING GAME PATCH

There were some rumors that the next patch for the Sims 4 will be released at Tuesday, 2023/01/31. As far as I know there is no official confirmation by EA for this date. If it's true, patch day would be the same day then next life stream, which might deal with the upcoming expansion pack or the new Infant life stage but probably about both.

Anyway, after the last patch is before the next patch, so it's always a good idea to be prepared.

Be sure to back up your game data. Backup is also always a good idea, even without a specific reason.

You might consider to deactivate the automatic update function in the EA App or Origin. Have a look at these posts for some patch prep tips.
    • Origin version can be found here
    • EA App version can be found here

Regarding the expected features of the upcoming releases, there might be - as usual - some damaged or broken mods in the aftermath.

Patch will probably drop according to the usual time scheme:
    • US West Coast - 10am PT
    • US East Coast - 1pm ET
    • Western Europe - 18:00 UTC/GMT
    • Central Europe - 19:00 CET
    • Central Asia - 22:30 IST
    • Korea, Japan - 2am KST/JST (next day)
    • Australia East Coast - 3am AEST (next day)

Thank you so much, @Bonxie for the reminder. I am planning on removing my Mods folder, prior to the Livestream, just in case. With the small patch we got it was already in progress when I powered up my game. I failed to go offline, because Origin would never let me power up my game in that state. I did have auto-updates disabled in the EA App, but again failed to go offline. In this case I very much want the patch! So, I'm pulling my Mods folder, and will likely make a copy of my saves at that time, too. No worries, I'm an early riser, and my time zone is an hour ahead of CA. Thank you, also, for the tutorial on both Origin and the EA App. Very helpful. I could really use such a roadmap to repair in the App. Found it once, can't seem to find it again. LOL

That's weird. I have zero issues with playing offline in both Origin and EA Apps. If I want to play S4, I always start EA App/Origin, go offline and then start the game with a custom shortcut on my desktop which is pointing to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\TS4_x64.exe". Having a separate shortcut to the executable is an old habit from S2 and S3, but it works also if I start the game from the offline App/Origin. I'm hardly ever online in EA App/Origin because I don't use the gallery in game. I'm only online for patching (with auto updates disabled) and when adding content.

There are two similar ways to start the game repair function in the EA App:

    Version 1
    1. Start the EA App
    2. Open "My Collection" from the sidebar
    3. Click on the button ("..." three points) in the upper right corner of the Sims 4 tile
    4. Choose "Repair" from the context menu
    y4mvWSCV-1pHKnJSZFuJNBCmD2y7_y5DZCrmiCMGuUxLcr3o7Y1OS46cr2d7ADW8nc6ibFTjhkXHxxj77qSrqNKxA7tRcMpcdHs6sErv5pOOOXSEqj5OL_N7ErRPui_o2tsvyFU86ZKKshFlhNl6meKGTStXl5xACJd9EELWvEZ30Q0cj7iGOglTP0iM8TDQxbr?width=947&height=693&cropmode=none

    Version 2
    1. Start the EA App
    2. Click on the Sims 4 icon in the side bar
    3. Choose "Manage" on the main window
    4. Choose "Repair" from the context menu
    y4mYomu9lUSMswNlN8aw2rjLXqw47H1xO2-pQtud9J-CqjM57gngJQjSzYOj4lzT4LaYfcYjGH1wRQ00Ixa2hMZbj4Qe76Qj56VaiegcwpKmr6mDeN1VgDwuooD-A7wuEV6Tod4Fo7qj-klpDA-K8b_tAIv9wp2WoXhoDRM1vVQvOjdPg1JOSRiXQBnFHoe8JEi?width=1001&height=749&cropmode=none

When clicking "Repair", the repair process starts immediately without further confirmation.
Clicking on the download manager in the lower left corner of the EA app window during repair shows this:
    y4marktgebC0Lk1v7BJusa2YIsM979AB8t4SsIx7kCWzguivPVkN1G_F8vwlTXQLd5yR1HFDnAnlKP8K0WKg-LAPRRTwMEOHd6ieo1xgZBT5s5KNMAE99kO7QKqmEWWvC6SGrv2z68szM1RUaQCzM2a-Vk2dM4biXFu7JZCsJ8-GFYUI2f1VCNtZmkvAbXrNb8f?width=1010&height=635&cropmode=none

After the repair process is finished the download manager looks like this:
    y4mbe4Du51iehGymsI7lLyBfd6-ByJJPQrJ-_VTlfvD9Xrq-HNUnYceeb4djbQRT9mdlv5Zdrn9i3y07nCOE8ub3vQ5ugL5cfodGHaDtehkoV8hgmWvsgXyxyfIu24_Y6fGCqDOxgozIAZAXjHTA0bertQpA1Mhn42V84EEaBuKsK9meWxA0obZTGKcIwcHnAfA?width=1008&height=692&cropmode=none

AWESOME. Thank you so much @Bonxie. I think I stumbled upon it the second way once. I should use bread crumbs. I have taken notes and I am one happy camper this morning. :) You are the BEST.

As for the weirdness, I think I switched to offline at the time they urged the update. I just know I wasn't allowed to play my game. Got a message, to this effect: you are offline and must go online in order to play. :open_mouth: Three separate occasions, so I have no idea why it doesn't get along with me. I always knew I was special but this is ridiculous. LOL

Hi @Bonxie Thank you for step-by-step instructions for the EA App. Your post is the first place where I've found instructions accompanied by helpful images. I do have 2 questions because I just want to be sure I understand it correctly.
I myself am a few game patches behind. I initially held off updating because I'm in the process of building a custom save file for myself, and wanted to complete that before updating & factoring in mods. Now I'm afraid to update due to several serious bugs I have read about, of which some seem to been fixed for certain Sims players, but have not been fixed for others, and I really don't want to risk introducing the bugs I don't have already into the game.
I am still using Origin, and play offline as well as have auto- updates disabled. I have read some horror stories about switching to the EA App, but it sounds like you experienced a relatively seamless transition.
When I switch from Origin to EA App (which is likely imminent) my questions are:
    1) Do you know if my existing Origin settings carry over to EA App automatically? I am afraid that even though I play offline & have auto updates disabled, that when I make the switch to EA App, it will start auto updating / patching the game anyway when I open the app, and I won't get the chance to pause it and then change the settings.
    2) I noticed you showed that there would be a notification under the Sims 4 game in the EA App that would prompt me to update / patch. If my Origin settings do not, in fact, actually automatically carry over to the EA App, will I at least get a chance to put updates on hold when opening the EA app (in the steps you helpfully provided) and then go offline, or will the game auto-update with the transfer & I can't do anything about it?
Sorry for the long-winded question. Just wanted a little clarification, if possible, before I have to make the switch, because I've been rather nervous about it.

Thanks for all you do for us Simmers!

    Regarding your questions:

    1) Definetly no. When you install the EA App every setting is on default which means "activated" in almost every case. When I changed from Origin to EA App I had to redo the settings (in my case, deactivating everything in reach) after the first launch of the app. I don't know exactly what happens if you change to EA App with an unpatched game, but my guess is that a game update will start immediately upon first EA App launch.

    2) I don't know if I understood correctly, so hopefully this answer makes sense. As I said in the reply to your first question, there will be no migration of your Origin settings to the new EA App. You have to configure it to your taste once you start the EA App for the first time. To cut it short: no, you can't do anything about it.

But don't worry. You don't have to hurry to change to the EA App. There is no EA App for MAC users so far and I understood from all the EA statements that this situation will last for at least months. As long as EA doesn't force the users to switch, you're fine with waiting.

A remark on patching: I never patch at once (hence automatic updates off) but I do usually after three or four days once the dust has settled, so I usually have a current game. As far as I remember the last big gamebreaker was the HSY patch 1.90.358 from July 2022. As long as you have survived this patch and you were able to get back to a working game in the aftermath with the August and September patches (which tried to fix the mess), you shouldn't have any issues with the following patches from autumn 2022. They were small with very particular bug fixes for special issues and didn't mess up the whole game. So if somewhen these days a game update might start accidentally, this should be managable. If you're still pre HSY patch it would be difficult.

@Bonxie Thank you for answering my questions! It's too bad my Origin settings won't carry over automatically; I don't know if I would be quick enough to turn it offline, and delay patching, right after installing the EA App. But like you said, it isn't mandatory quite yet. So I think I'll hold off for now, but when I do switch, I will certainly consult your post with the helpful visuals to be sure I do it right!

I am actually still on game version 1.87, so I managed to avoid the dreadful mean bug, groundhog day, etc. I usually wait a few days after a patch drops before patching, too, so I can read community feedback & see if the patch actually fixes the game more than it breaks it. Since everything I've seen since around Werewolves & HSY is a huge train-wreck, I've been trying to avoid it, for now. I know some players found that the fix for the mean bug worked, while others said it either made it worse, or caused it for the first time in a game that didn't already have it before. And it looks like EA is still considering it "fixed" and ignoring it, even though plenty of players still have it in their game.
Honestly, mods are holding this game together, but I'd really like to have less mods to update & more official fixes, but I don't see that happening. So I am very thankful for the amazing modders out there who help their fellow Simmers out!

This release has been tested to be working with (but does not require) GTW, OR, Get Together, Dine Out, City Life, Vampires, Parenthood, Cats & Dogs, Jungle Adventures, Seasons, Get Famous, Strangeville, Island Living, Realm of Magic, Discover University, Eco Living, Journey to Batuu, Snowy Escape, Cottage Living, Werewolves, High School Years and the patch released February 7, 2023 - PC: 1.95.207.1030 / Mac: 1.95.207.1230.
Versions before this most likely won't work, so don’t be surprised if that’s the case!

The mod folder will look more or less like this after MCCC 2023.1.0 installation/update:

As proof of installation the welcome screen of MCCC 2023.1.0 looks like this:

Check the CC and Mods in your game and use current versions only. Be careful when using outdated or orphaned DLC. If you get an orange error message referring to a Last Exception, the reason is most likely broken 3rd party stuff.

Legacy players (32-bit) should keep MCCC version 6.6.0:

Could outdated versions of MCCC conflict with other mods? Currently playing with Carls Dine Out Mod and waiters are just standing there while the place fills up with customers.

Yes, they can interfere. Either see if it's been updated, or remove it.
