Which lighting mods do you use?

ZeiZei Posts: 254 Member
Hello! I'm on the look-out for some new lighting mods. I have used Outdoor Lighting Tweaks by Ddefinder from MTS up to now (Dynamic Shadows, Longer Days, Balanced), but recently I started having an interest in Burntwaffles' mods as well. I tried installing one (Perfect Day) but I think it conflicted with my mod from MTS, so I removed it for now.. I was wondering what are some of your favorite lighting mods? Do you think I should switch my MTS mod with one from Burntwaffles? Would love to see pictures from your game too if you have any.

Here is the MTS mod: http://modthesims.info/d/367164/outdoor-lighting-tweaks-v2-2.html
And here are the Burntwaffles mods: (scroll down a bit for TS3) https://brntwaffles.tumblr.com/tagged/lighting-mod

Edit: While browsing I came across Skyrim's Star Field mod, also from Burntwaffles: https://brntwaffles.tumblr.com/post/44066006057/to-install-you-simply-put-the-package-file-in Looks amazing, does anyone use it?

All the best!

I haven't tried Ddefender's lighting mod but BrntWaffles' Dream Dimension takes some elements from it. I don't have it installed at the moment (REGRETTING THAT) but my fave "flavor" is Moonlight Falls water w/ no auroras.

Ah, so I gather the Brntwaffles mods are a more advanced version of Ddefinder's mods, if they use some elements from it? And I think Brntwaffles has colorful nights in some of their mods whilst the Ddefinder mod has black nights exclusively.

Here are some links to past discussion threads concerning lighting mods. Several posts contain screenshots of various mods/different times of day which you may find helpful:

    https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/912853/show-me-your-lighting-mods/p1

I had posted some of my own lighting mods screenshots in one of those threads, so I won’t repost them here.

I used to use the Skyrim star field texture replacement. I dug around and managed to find an old pic of mine from when I had it installed:

However, I switched some years back to using most of Wasset’s Enchanted Environment mods along with Nilxis’ Realistic Clouds.

And here are a few more recent scenery shots from my game using some of brntwaffles lighting mods, along with the other environmental mods I linked above. A couple of these shots were taken in Midnight Hollow, so I thought you might find those of interest.

@starguru those screenshots are absolutely phenomenal!

I use Mahamudo's Environment Lighting Tweaks and the Frozen Inspired version of BrntWaffles lighting mod with Isla Paradiso water. Unfortunately, I don't have any environmental pictures at the moment.

I use different lighting mods from BrntWaffles (one at the time of course, I just switch depending on the family and my mood).

I also have BrntWaffles Skyrim Starfield 2048 installed. I absolute love it! So many stars!

@starguru Those look amazing! Now I want them too haha
I understand that you can have those environmental mods and a lighting mod from BrntWaffles at the same time? Won't it conflict? Either with the BrntWaffles lighting mod or the starfield mod..?

(Sorry for writing two posts btw, I was too quick to hit send :disappointed: )

    Thanks!

Environmental default texture replacements can be simultaneously used with lighting mods. This is why you can use a lighting mod with the Skyrim default star field replacement, because they alter different aspects of the environment.

    For example:

    fullmoonMH_zpsz0glirr7.jpg

This screenshot was taken using BW’s Darker Midnight Dream 1.5 with MH water, plus Nilxis’ Realistic Clouds, wasset’s Enchanted Stars, Enchanted Moon v2 and Full Moon Halo.

Conflicts/overrides are still possible. It depends on what specific changes are included in a particular lighting mod (or are present in worlds that use their own custom lighting). However, the environmental default texture replacements are available in individual package files, so you can choose which file(s) you wish to install and leave out any of them that would conflict with your lighting mod. (Or you can choose to override particular aspects of a lighting mod by intentionally installing a default texture replacement.)

The BW Skyrim Star Field mod would conflict with other default star field replacement mods. But you would still be able to use multiple defaults that changed other aspects of the environment, such as moon and/or cloud texture replacements.

    HTH
