Watched the video (& some reviews that came after it, hence the delay between posts) and often wondered if they were talking about the same game we have been dealing with these past 5 years, especially when they went on about how much smarter and more in depth the sims are than before and that there is drama in the game. Maybe they have/had a different version than I do.

How Sims are used in Psychology today...... so not just the devs think its a good idea. I also know several schools in Massachusetts that have a class or two for 4-6th graders where they use the Sims 2 to teach social skills, running a household, positive behaviors etc in special education classes. They have had nothing but positive results and their parents seem quite happy about it from what my sister -in-law tells me. She was one of the teachers who first brought the game before the school board 12 - 14 years ago.

    Here's what the UK did:

That’s all from the Sims 2 and 3 era. I really don’t see how Sims 4 could help. “Oh, look, your sim took a shower and now she’s perfectly ok again, see that?!”

If anything, using The Sims 4’s Sims for anything pertaining to psychology is a GREAT way to get kicked right out of the field.

It seems they were going for a cartoony behavior approach with The Sims 4, but as realistic as TS2 and TS3’s Sims were, they were far more entertaining to watch, interact with, and develop throughout their lives.
Yeah Rachel and Lucy said the game's direction was going the sitcom outlet rather than the simulation outlet. Why I am happier with new leadership now with someone who has a better understanding what made us get into the first two games and honestly worked on my favorite gameplay features in the Sims 2. It was almost as if Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs for cut off at esteem at what the game focused on was the smaller two areas of the pyramid self-actualization and esteem for the Sims 4. Everything else got forgotten and hidden under the rug.

    Can you link that ?

They didn't consult psychologists while making the Sims 4 and were not going for making a life simulation game pretty much but focusing more on CAS, drama, and individuality. Why it has been so hard to ask the Gurus to turn the game into a life simulation game because without that the Sims 4 no longer reflects the simulation part of its name. It is like how do you ask them to deviate from the initial vision for the game?
Except Sims 4 is totally not about individuality.

Oh totally. I just was quoting from the video. It is more of a hive mind than individuality. Did make me think since Sims 4 was never meant to be a life simulation game, then make it easier for other companies to make life simulation games especially while the Sims 4 is around. Might be better for companies making games like Paralives for the Sims 4 to extend longer so that they can enter the genre easily.

Yes, my comment was rather a reaction to their vision there. I agree.

Just saw this interview... someone asked SimGuruDuke why they excluded the older demographic in the rebrand Video ... and this is his answer lol

In no way was our campaign meant to represent everyone who plays our game. We are not saying you need to be young to play this game. We know that is not the case."

The goal of this was to attract new players into the brand and the game. We wanted to do that by helping them understand why other people play. Not all, but most new players are younger. To grow our brand means reaching new players

Ahm.... so much of being inclusive :s

At the end i am just asking myself... what has this to do with the actual GAMEPLAY...? Like what kind of features are you trying to sell me? What kind of features comes with the diversity and inclusiv stuff? Only style over substance...
Create your own story ... make some cute diverse Sims and build theyre cute diverse Homes... let them live in cute diverse Worlds... and everything else... well imagination or reused content.

it aint that deep. its wierd that this is they're top selling point. They used to advertise the game in a fun, quirky and lighthearted way, , instead of beeing political correct, social justice. The Game was always inclusive, you could always create whatever you wanted, espacially if you consider using custom content, why is this new now and so differente from the previous ones...? Well okay.

Sounds to me like an admission they are loosing their standard veteran base and are trying to make up for it by inducing increasing numbers of know nothings with money to spend to buy. Rate we're going the T rating will mean toddler. Never mind making a game that is so knocks the socks off that everyone is clamoring to get it becasue it far outshines everythings else out there. As in how TS1 shattered all records for sales from its introduction onwards, and how TS2 picked up the torch and ran with it for I forget how long. I can remember computer gaming shops being sold out and the games on back order!

I feel like this video is manipulating. It feels like they took a bunch of people with self-esteem issues than put them on the center. The thing is this game is not meant to be a safe space, and you shouldn't be using this game as the main comfort. I have issues as well, and this does not sit well with me.

@Horrorgirl6 lots to unpack in that video and I won't harp on what is in the video because others will, but I will harp on the ageism. Looks like everyone in that video was late teens or early twenties and that is the issue. The Sims is one of those rare games that appeals to all ages, but EA/Maxis cater to one demographic - this one age group and that sucks.

I think the marketing team thought they nailed the diversity theme, but NOPE the didn't.
wocka wocka wockaWho gave that puppy asparagus?please do not send me private messages - they creep me out 🤢🤮😱

Indeed, they didn’t. And it’s more than just this video. I’m old(ish B) ) but I really don’t need them to adress me or cater me when selling the game or try and add stuff for oldish people. Actually I love playing young adults most. So it can’t be that. It’s that... tone. I don’t know. This atmosphere of fast and shallow and ‘happening’ and fashion and...., actually everything my two teens are not either. It’s not really an age thing at all. It’s the shallowness that’s written all over it I can’t stomach. This video for instance suggests depth, but it isn’t. I fully appreciate the people in that video are real and their emotions and feelings are, but those feelings and emotions in no way correspond with what this version has to offer. Which is why the comparable videos of the earlier games are so much better (filled with examples), have so much more substance.
