I had just closed my Sims 4 game and Origin came up with the following message.
Origin requires a critical updateA critical update will be required in 22h 3m. Please exit your game and restart Origin before then or you will be placed into offline mode.
Then I signed out, quit Origin, started and signed on again and this message came up on the top of the Origin screen.
! Adding the Sims 4 Legacy Edition to your library may cause it to download automatically to your device, including 64-bit devices where it's not required.
So be careful what you download is my advice. For a minute I thought my laptop was deemed too poor and being offered the Legacy Edition but it's a good Omen gaming one so I think I will be OK.
It looks like you probably will need to sign out and quit and start again just before the usual update times if you don't want to be summarily put offline by Origin. It might need some more elucidation moderators as I don't quite understand what to do.

PS: I didn't get that required update by signing off, quitting and restarting today.
UPDATE
Origin has updated itself this morning.....
I've Found the Legacy Edition available for download in the Extras column of the packs you can buy for Sims 4 in Origin
It's with the "Add-ons under the Bundles available, with the Party, hats, digital sound track etc.
You don't need to download it unless you actually need it if you are told your computer won't run DU. I suppose it is available now if you want it.
PS: There are 3 bundles available now, Worth looking at.

Regarding the Legacy edition, at least on Macs: if you don't need it, Origin won't automatically add it to your library. You need to search for it in the store.
Unless you're running a system that is no longer supported, in which case you'll be prompted to download the Legacy Edition. From the Legacy store page: "You only need to download Legacy Edition if you received a message saying you need it when you tried to open The Sims 4. "
After I had restarted Origin (after downloading the update) and I tried to start Sims 4 my desktop shortcut didn't work anymore, I had to delete it and go to origin games folder, Sims 4, and I noticed bin and bin_le. I guess the second one is legacy one. I created a new shortcut to my desktop and luckily it worked.
I have no clue if I can delete the bin_legacy edition. I don't want to mess up my game. I'm not a computer expert.

> @Nindigo is it safe to delete the Bin_LE folder?
I deleted it due to that my laptop is a 64 bit. I'm testing it and if it crashes.
I decided to move ts4.exe to the original Bin folder, open it as an administrator, and the game worked correctly!!!
I will have to try next to completely delete the legacy bin folder now that I know you can modify that folder
