This interesting creature is an unexpected entity that defies normal boundaries and demands a closer inspection. Its true nature is unknown.
Despite this familiar being the mysterious and silent type you may still catch yourself whispering to them, “Do that voodoo that you do!”
Be warned to avoid the direct gaze of the glowfrog. They are usually quite mischievous characters although quite harmless when left to their own devices.
Bathed in pure energy it is nigh impossible to make out the true form of a fairy beyond its magical wings. One can feel what can only be described as a slight spark when near.
Regal and powerful, this dragon should never be discounted based on its size. It is a formidable foe as well as a cherished companion.
When you need a protector that truly frightens your opponent consider the skull. It is hard not to be intimidated by this floating, haunting familiar.
The preeminent symbol of magic and ancient knowledge. They have a strong connection to the moon and stoically follow their chosen Spellcaster

... The backstory of The Magic Realm is that the world has felt apart but the sages themselves help the world stay afloat.

The Magic Realm is is full of floating items, furniture and buildings that have felt apart.

There is a huge lot on The Magic Realm where your Sims can stay and reside in during their stay in The Magical Realm as long as they want.
Gameplay
...Children are allowed to have familiars.
Familiars help spellcasters earn points, progress through their rank and eventually protect your Sims from their death.
... To get rid of Spellcaster Abilities you can request the right of dissolution from one of the 3 sages in The Magic Realm.
Removing Spellcaster powers from your Sim will also get rid of all of the curses that you’ve obtained while being a Spellcaster. However, there is a cooldown period that you’ll have to wait until becoming a Spellcaster again so that this feature doesn’t get abused for getting rid of curses easily.
... There’s a Spellcaster Charge in the Needs Menu that shows the Magical Energy of your Spellcaster. When clicking on the Spellcaster Charge meter you’ll be able to find out how filled your Magical Energy is.
Overcharged Magical Energy can give your Sim negative moodlets that can also lead to death by overload if there’s too much Magical Energy.
... Crystals are one of the main ingridients for potions and they’ll be required for higher-level potions.
... Familiars can get tired and it’s recommended that you don’t push their energy too much.
... Up to 4 Sims can be brewing up a potion at the same time.

... There are portals in the Debug Build Category that help you get from point A to point B across the lot. All you need to do is put down a Portal Entrance and a Portal Exit across the lot and Sims will be able to teleport.

finally watching through the livestream and am kind of amazed nobody's pointed this out yet... when spellcasters duel, you can actually pick from five different 'versions', three of which are for potential rewards to the winner
'heated' is similar to fights between sims, lowers relationship
'friendly' is the reverse, the duel actually builds relationship between the two
'ingredients' is for potion ingredients
'knowledge' is to learn new spells or potion recipes
'artifacts' is for brooms, wands or familiars, though the description doesn't mention the latter

@mika, the livestream said that having a sage die, marrying them or somehow moving them to an active household will remove them and someone else will step up to take their place (they said 'there's a line of succession' but it's quite likely just randomly generated, like the island ancestors and such)
that said, i'm expecting there to be a hidden trait (that wasn't in yesterday's patch) or something similar to flag a sim as a sage and am planning on putting that on several of my own sims after i get them the spells/perks (and maybe curses) i want for them. or using a stylist sim to go into the realm and give them make-overs with the full edit cheat on
