After seeing the pictures, I am not so sure I want to buy TS4...

«1
I love the realistic looking sims, and there isn't much that I feel I NEED for TS3. I can sum up what I want fairly easily:

-Yoga (Achievable with a mod)
-Wrestling (No mod for this :( )
-A nature spell for witches (A plantsim elixir would fix this)

How do you guys feel about it? Of course I am waiting for the trailer to see the gameplay, but unless I see a huge improvement in personalities to makeup for the drastic loss of realism, I'm questioning getting into another cash-vampyre.

    Imeep,
    Look at'em.

The Sims, The World, The Expressions, EVERYTHING!
I understand that some people want realistically looking Sims'. But, I persoanlly think these Sims are just what I wanted.

I love them already. Graphics don't make a game Imeep, what makes a game is the game-play and its features. I bet if you give TS4 a shot, you'll end up loving it.
But, I will hold my judgement till Games-Con where they will release more info! XD

I'm significantly more hyped to buy it, but I am wary of the claim that a lot of features of TS4 are only going to be "unlockable" by participating in events, collecting items, and earning achievements. I don't want any of that crap, I want all of the character creation stuff right out of the gate.

But I like the look of it, at least.

After seeing the pics, I'm actually more excited and am finding out certain features are not as bad as I thought they were.

For example, CAS... it's like they said, "Okay, let's combine the Spore creature creator with Sims 3 CAS... only, without all of the epic fail that plagued both." And then promptly accomplished it.

While it's a bit more cartoony and I know those are staged shots... it doesn't change the fact that you actually see a lot more emotion on their faces. The eyes are no longer dead. They managed to get that perfect. And the graphics is the exact style I was hoping for.

Plus, the environments, some of the details I read, the way the bar is handled...

And now I have PBGS :?

I'm not boycotting it or anything. I am just saying that the realism of the sims is a factor that drew me in.

I am so concerned right now with the graphics and UI that my excitement has waned. I love what they did with CAS, and don't have a problem with cartoony characters, but this just seems too flat and don't get me started on the hair. Noooo! Even the trees look flat to me. Sort of makes me teary eyed because there seem to be some great stuff added, but the surrounding look is so off. *sigh*
Nothing to see. I don't even care about the forums.

................Well...their base game clothes/furniture/hair already looks improved. I love the standing red-head's hairstyle.

I'm with OP, do not like it. I was expecting a little more realism and more beautiful game.
I find this new style unappealing. Childish looking. If this is the final product, looks like a downgrade...

This! Only, I was hoping for a little less cartoony than what we see here. You hit the nail on the head with the flatness and the plastic hair, which rather takes the realism out of "stylized realism." I'm a little freaked out about that hair.

Maybe I'm just tired; but I feel teary about it, too. I'm still hoping that, if these leaks are real, it only looks this way because a lot of work remains to be done.

Once I have recovered from my initial shock, I will do my best to learn more and reserve judgment until we see the final, final product -- but I'm going to go have a good cry first. :)

The top picture also looks like the group socialisation that was mentioned in the survey. Notice how they are all looking at the girl in the hat.

Notice that all of the Sims listening to her are responding in different ways to the same emotion. All of them look concerned, except for the redheaded girl on the far right, who looks like she wants to tell the girl in the hat to shove off.

You do realize that the game still has a few months to go, right? These are early pics and I'm sure they'll get the details sorted out once they get further along.

I like how the game looks, except for the UI. The UI looks like something from a mobile game and not from a sims PC game. I hope that the core gameplay of what the sims is, is in the sims 4. What I'm hoping for is an amazing sandbox game, that has evolved from The Sims and had taken the best parts of the past 3 installments of the game. The UI will take some time to get used to, but if the gameplay is great than that's all that matters.

The trees are 3D. If you actually watch the trees in TS3, apart from a couple of species with big leaves where this wouldn't work (palm trees), the leaves on trees are actually just 2D images that follow the camera.

I see these trees as an improvement.

    Nope I don't agree!

I love it. At first glance I was like hmmm but now I'm like YAY. I've gotten over the fact that they look very cartoonish, I've gotten over the fact that their hair looks blocky. However the UI is still terrible to me....

I love how much sims2 I am seeing in the screenshots, it's making my heart SING with joy, because that's what I've wanted since i first played sims3! (yes that's how long i've been bored with sims3). The expressions, the trees are huge and gorgeous! I can't WAIT to see animatons, I hope theyre vibrant and expressive! I can't wait for sims4!!

I like it, it's growing on me the more I see. Also, I it doesn't hurt to have a bit of patience and see more before becoming so disheartened by it.

As far as realism goes in Sims 3 and how it is programed you would have to be real close throughout the game to see realism and to me realism would just not work. I am more interested in gameplay. The problem with companies today, they want beautiful graphics and less substance, where is the gameplay?

1.The Sim looks o.k. if modders aren't locked out or the average player can't make a skin to improve them. :?
    2. The UI tells the story of how the game will play...Fine as in you are told the Sim is 'fine' instead of seeing motive bars anymore? I don't like that.
    3. The motive icons in the UI...don't like, not enough motives and no longer motive bars..how does the player know when the Sim needs to eat by the icon picture? Looks like TS4 is dumbed down even more.
    4. The UI hints that the survey is part of the game...the mini games, the social connecting, the whole ball of wax from the survey...if you look at the UI's seen in pictures..(there is more than one UI type) it looks like the survey has come true..'oh, bother',...said Winnie the Pooh.
    5. The tudor homes in the background of one picture seems to be just a fake background as was promised in the first announcement..'add backgrounds' so that tells me perhaps Sims are not in an actual open world anymore but have fake backgrounds behind them..I haven't seen one picture that 'proves' open world..don't mind that but it means a more scaled down game if there isn't an open world.

    6. The UI (by it's icons, gears etc.) the Sim this time is played more like a Social game..and not a full sandbox game...I doubt I am going to buy this unless the expressions knock my socks off...because the more I see of it, the more I see it isn't the Sims we have come to know and love...sandbox...for teens,... and not a kiddie/social game which seems to be evident by the UI....if you really pick the UI apart in two different pictures..you can see the TS4 is not a whole sandbox game...and maybe even dumbed down even more.

ETA: the picture showing the drinks on the table on the deck..purple but the shadows under the glass are too much! I hope that is only a rendering and not actual screen shot from game..because if it is the shadows under the drinks make them look like they aren't on the table....yes, little things like that bug a stickler for details.

ETA: and I will add this: the picture of the Sims sitting around the coffee table..no textures, no bump mapping on the black furnture. I don't even see highligted shadows on that furniture..yes, we see some on the Sims themselves but 'none' on the furniture. :x Low slider/ graphic option? I doubt it.

I'm betting that we'll lose most of those nice hairstyles before the release, or they'll be edited. Happened in The Sims 2 and 3.

Although I think the clay idea is a little strange. I'm not sure how it works, so I won't jump onto the bandwagon yet.
