Julia found someone she can hangout and talk to without it being a co-worker. I wonder if it'll be too good to be true for her.
Chapter 51
Aww, such a gentleman that Jeremy. Peeping tom Bianca is jealous. I hope she doesn't decide to start something at work. Some how I can see her doing that.
Chapter 52
Her editor sighed. "You make a good point, but this rejection comes from a source higher up than me, Suzy." "Who pulled this?" she demanded to know. "The owners" came the reply. AKA Nancy Landgraab!
Then I read further to find out Geoffrey. I would think that was more Nancy's style. Geoffrey seems like someone who would do what Nancy tells him to do. Maybe she did. Glad to see Suzy is going to focus on fashion more for the magazine. Like she thought at the end, she can sell her other story to another magazine.
Chapter 53
"There are four of us...well, actually five if you include our dog." "Oh you have a dog? I'm impressed...maybe he can smell out your strange and mysterious criminal." "Here's my card if you're interested" she said, handing him a green business card with purple lettering: MYSTERY, INC. ... Scooby Dooby Doo!!! Am I right? Did I guess your reference correctly?
You've covered quite a lot of ground since the last post...
The gradual character development of Julia will see her meeting others but you're right; she's very tightly bound to her work and that impacts her socialising. Alas, she rarely does much in the way of following up these meetings with strangers.
Well, Bianca's becoming a bit like Peeping Tina. It's a seemingly random thing the game does that works well narratively by having these obsessive types show up on your doorstep without having called them.
Nancy gives the orders, but if she wants to keep her hands clean she usually gets Geoffrey or Malcolm to do the dirty work.
FINALLY! Someone got the reference! Yes, that is THE Daphne from Scooby Doo. I've done the whole Scooby gang, including Scoob himself.
I've put some Sixties film & TV Easter Eggs into the story and I'm waiting to see who spots them. Currently you're the only one who spotted the Scooby Doo reference

I'm a big Scooby fan. I am shocked I am the only one who got the reference, or maybe vocalized it to you. I hope I get to see more of the mystery machine gang, though! I'm sure I missed stuff already from the previous chapters I read. Here's to hoping I pick up some more tv or film easter eggs.
Here are the references you may have missed up to Chapter 53:
Chapter 10: Suzy curses the phone company saying "I don't know anyone who likes the phone company". That's a line from The President's Analyst (1967) starring James Coburn.
Burr DeBenning is the name of an American character actor who was prominent in the 1960s and 70s and who's look included very big sideburns.
Chapter 27: Action says "You work your side of the street, I'll work mine" is a line from Bullitt (1968) starring Steve McQueen.
Chapter 36: The movie playing at the theatre where Suzy and Summer are trying to find Gillian is "Un Sim Et Une Simme" which is a reference to the Oscar winning French movie of 1966: A Man And A Woman.
Chapter 42: Alan Cuffe, Lothario Magazine and the Kitten Club are all based on Hugh Hefner and Playboy.
Chapter 50: Davis Goode says "Sandor 21, repeat" which is part of a comedy sketch by 60s comedians Coyle and Sharpe.
Chapter 53: And there's the first reference of Scooby Doo.
@Kellogg_J_Kellogg I'm proud of myself, because I picked up on three of the references:
"Un Sim Et Une Simme", Cuffe and his ventures, and the Scooby Doo reference (Daphne, three roommates, and a dog). Most of Action's lines come across as exactly what a cop of his era would say, so I wouldn't be surprised to discover more examples of "sampling" from crime dramas of that era.
I sense "a boy who cried wolf" scenario going to happen. No one will believe Aunt Elle and think she is delusional cause it's happened in the past, yet she will be telling the truth.
Chapter 55
Kerry Fry....right to the point and creepy at the same time. I'm curious how he would have approached it if Jeremy answered the door instead.
Chapter 56
Suzy will mold Neil in due time. He wants to let go and says he will. But I see him reverting back. I can see him getting there, though.
Nice. That was clever on putting this case as the suspect using two identities to commit his crimes and getting away with it. Myron and Myra...
Chapter 58
lol @ Max. Snobbish little brat!
Same sex dating and relationships were definitely different back then as they are today. Are we going to learn more about Brent and Brant in the 60s? Or should I just wait and keep reading?
Chapter 59
Summer needs to talk to Jeremy and Barbara. I think they can help her with Travis.
Chapter 60
All I have to say is Bianca is going to get a little karma thrown her way soon. I can feel it.
Same sex relations in the 60s. In America it isn't illegal and there's some acceptance but at the same time it's considered way off the norm. From my research there's a lot of coded language when it comes to this...in British society the code is called "Polari" but it's all about referring to homosexual men as "confirmed bachelors", "special friends" or other such terms (one of my favourite odd terms is "gentlemen of the lavender persuasion". It's not until the 1970s when it becomes more open and accepted so I'm depicting it in Sim 66 as this a wink and a nudge here and there. Also, without ever mentioning it, gays were expected to be very camp and flamboyant back then. For example, everyone knew the actor Paul Lynde was gay and he acted camp, but no one would come out and say so openly so it was always spoken about in a roundabout way and with a wink. The idea that a more macho actor like Rock Hudson could be gay as he was OBVIOUSLY manly was preposterous. So they were stuck with this stereotype. For more liberally minded people like Travis it's totally cool, for more conservative types like Julia she just can't conceive it. At the moment, the Heckings don't appear enough for me to devote much time to looking into their relationship. If I were to promote them to leading characters I want something more than they're a same sex couple to write about: I'd run out of plotlines quickly if I did just that. So they're supporting, occasional players for now.
I like what you said about stereotypes
Just popping in to clarify that in the US homosexuality wasn't decriminalized until the Lawrence v. Texas case in the Supreme Court in 2003.
Action is on the verge of cracking the case but he is confronted by something he never bargained for...a big revelation of who is behind the assassination attempts lies ahead but will Action emerge unscathed? Find out in Chapter 126: MINDBENDER.
Thanks for all the feedback on the story so far...I really appreciate the comments and insights and also suggestions and historical information: It all helps with my creative process.

......
I keep reading cause I enjoy your soap opera style stories. I pay little attention to the political, religious, or other aspects of it. Not to say I don't think about how life was then versus now....I just enjoy your storytelling perspective of the 1960s for The Sims. I also like the makeovers to the more hip looking while still maintaining somewhat of their modern look.
Thanks. Here's the thing about the politics of the era...which is true of many eras: Most people were getting on with their lives. A lot of media has focussed on the "times they are a-changing" and that was true to some extent, but it wasn't all pervasive. That's why I use the contemporary issues of the 1960s sparingly.
After all the weird shenanigans of mysterious grottoes, telepathic powers and conspiracies it's time to come back to Earth and follow Dr Julia at work and play as everyone asks the burning question..."what's with the student beatnik look?" Chapter 127: Tinkling The Ivories
Spoiler warning: I'm caught up with the story, so if you aren't, and are temped to click on spoiler tags...
It's good to catch up with Dr. Epstein. I enjoy all your characters, and it felt like it had been a while since we'd seen what Julia was up to.
I didn't know Dudley Moore was such a talented pianist. I'm mainly familiar with him as an actor, and I remember being surprised by how short he was (5'2"-ish).
Yes, most famous for being an actor and comedian Dudley Moore was also a brilliant pianist...who had his own jazz trio but also played classical concerts. I cheated a little with the music this time...that performance was from 1971 but it's from a piece he wrote in 1966.
Now the spoilers...
Recent chapters have involved conspiracies, otherworldly locations and strange powers...Julia brought things more back to Earth this time. I like the change of gear, so to speak. Like you and your daughter, I play the game and then work out the plot hooks and connections that follow.
Noooo, Action! I wonder if Suzy will pick up the slack for him?
Julia seems like the best kind of doctor, paying attention to what's going on in the patient's life not just their test results... and hooray for the music, she seems to be becoming more confident with time
I don't like my characters to be mere stereotypes. George has, let's just say certain fetishes, but there's a reason why this is so which will get mentioned at a later date.
Neil as Samson, I never thought of it like that! That completely works...the main reason for growing his hair out was to make him look more different to Jeremy. Neil began life as a random Townie and the close cropped hairstyle was what he began with. As a background character that's fine but when he got bumped up in importance I felt I had to do something to differentiate him from Jeremy. But it does throw up a bit of a plot point: Did Suzy secretly fancy Jeremy all along? Was that kind of mild mannered, upstanding and nervous kind of man what she's been looking for but she became distracted by the trendy set?
Villareal has too good a backstory not to mention at some point. I won't reveal what's been happening with Action in later chapters but I think you'll like it.
Here comes Summer Holliday to shine her little rays of happiness into her friends lives...or she's too hyper and perky for her own good. You be the judge in Chapter 128: Getting To Know You.
