Who hates the holidays?

NushnushganayNushnushganay Posts: 9,418 Member
Ooo, me! At least, right now. I can't guarantee I will always hate them, but right now, they can suction eggs..

I thought it might be nice to give people who either hate the holidays, or just don't give a rip, a place to talk about it and realize they are not alone, where they won't have to deal with fingers being shaken at them.

Any takers?

Normally, no. I enjoy the holidays...

    BUT...

... this whole thing with the "Elf On The Shelf" has REALLY gotten outta hand!

Plus, if you add to that, Wal-Mart putting Christmas stuff out BEFORE Halloween had even arrived, Yes! This year was a bad one!

Wait 'til Halloween and Thanksgiving are over for the Christmas stuff! Do they plan to put Christmas stuff out before 4th of July next year? Who knows :/

I'm not a fan of the commercialisation of holidays.
But public holidays are pretty awesome if you work or study, and going on holiday is always fun.

I don't celebrate chrismas, I usually spend the day alone, reading, playing the sims, and eating pavlova.

I enjoy the holidays. As I have gotten older, they have seemed to lose their "magic" (if that makes any sense).

I agree with some previous posters the over commercialization is a bit too much.

I'm for sure the Grinch this year. I've had so much happen to me in my personal life over the past couple of years but now, Christmas decorations are on the shelf as soon as Halloween is over and it just really feels like it drags, plus...it's expensive as heeeellllll!!!

Days off from work or school are great, I agree. The things people do for the holidays just sound like so much hassle I'd rather not do, so to the best of my ability, I'm just not doing it. I'm just feeling like a hard pass this year. My idea of a perfect Christmas would be gaming, maybe playing my guitar if I get it fixed so it can plug into the amp again, and NOT dealing with extra dishes, messes, hassles, or peopling scenarios.

I will still give gifts to the people closest to me because they would be hurt otherwise.

And Elf on the Shelf? I didn't even know what that was until a few years ago, and I was stunned that people actually go for that. I bet it was dreamed up by some brilliant CEO somewhere, to offset the trend of "experiences instead of stuff" that so many people are now embracing. How can you lose, making Christmas even harder for than it was before, for the whole "pretending kids believe in this" schtick?

If I were in charge of Dante's Inferno, the Elf on the Shelf (or whoever came up with that idea) would have a special seat nice and close to the fire.

Sorry if this ruffles any feathers. Anyone who wants to is welcome to love the holidays, I won't judge. But I started this thread under no false pretenses, so holiday haters could go ahead and hate away with gusto. :) Who knows, I might be the cookie-baking Hallmark watching enthusiast next year.

I don't like holidays in real life. They are terrible triggers for me. No matter how hard I try to act "normal", I don't feel normal at all.

I do like to celebrate the holidays in the Sims. I have yet to learn how to change the calendar in the Sims. It is at the top of the list of the things that I want to learn to do.

I like holidays, but I think there’s too much stress on doing them up big and having the perfect day in the US. That creates unnecessary stress. My family has been taking a simplified approach the last several years.

I like the good food and quality time with my parents, but not if the holidays are celebrated with billions of relatives. It makes me super tired.

I don't like the commercialism and weather that comes with it. I'm in Canada and around this time it gets way too cold and too snowy. I really hate winter and it lasts 7 months here (October to April roughly, sometimes longer or shorter). I like the time off that (generally) comes with it... but I work a 24/7/365 shift work job. This year I'm working 7 PM Christmas Eve to 7 AM Christmas Day. I'm sleeping until noon then going to family dinner. It's a little rough. :')

My answer: not really. There's always stress (especially for my mother-in-law with cooking because everything has to be perfect and the whole family is coming over. My husband and I often say: let's keep it simple, like spaghetti, but she doesn't find that festive and keeps making it too complicated every time). And you have to pretend to be happy even if you're not feeling it. And on New Year's eve, I actually feel a bit down because I start thinking about what didn't go well in the past year and what probably won't change in the new year. And then I rather go to sleep early... Does this sound too gloomy, haha? I prefer 'normal', regular days without all the fuss. I'm always tired when it's over.

I loved Christmas as a child, but I outgrew it around the age of 16, which was when I realised celebrating something I didn't believe in was a complete waste of time. I'm no longer a child and I'm an atheist so it means nothing to me.

    I like the holidays. B)

For Christmas in particular, I really enjoy listening to all the Christmas songs.

I don't like how they over commercialize the holidays, especially Christmas. Also, hate how busy the stores are if, heaven forbid, I have to go to the store for something. People need to do more online shopping lol. :p
