As I said in another thread, I am initially disappointed in what appears to be a transformation, meaning that magic will once again be locked behind a lifestate. Alchemy does appear to return, so there is at least that consolation.
Looks like learning magic is an actual process (like eating Mermaid Kelp or being turned by a vampire) so it's not just a skill, which should reduce the number of random folks with magic.
And I liked what I saw. Magic doesn't require a wand. The aesthetics aren't overly "witchy" and fit well with my Urban Fantasy preferences, but are also nicely classic.
And the music in the trailer put me in a good mood, so that helped.
Sigh. So everyone can learn magic. That's not what I wanted at all. What's the point of having a witch occult if you're just going to give everyone magic anyway?!
By that logic, everyone can become a vampire or a mermaid. I fail to see the problem.
Loved that trailer, love the slightly futuristic/alien feel of it, it fits perfectly with my gameplay. Have to watch it more now.

That was my thought, but the trailer gives the impression you have to take potions to be able to harness magic? Like how a sim can become a mermaid by eating kelp. Idk, maybe that's too much speculation too early on, but I wouldn't rule out witches being a life state just yet.

That's what I thought too at first, but after re watching, it almost seems like she brews a special potion for him to be able to cast magic, and then casts a spell on him, similar to magis mutatio in sims 2.
I think the life state is wizards now and not witches though?
I'm afraid the floaty islands won't be residential and i don't want this to be one of those worlds you can only ever travel to and not live in. I like the look of it, but i expect my hopes to be dashed

I would love this to be the case, but I am not sure that it is correct. Beginning at 0:39 we have what appears to be a lifestate transformation.
I am a little bit disappointed personally... I was hoping for an enchanted woods type world with magical creatures and I am not too fussed about the space islands... Granted I do like the water falls and the magic shops but I wish it wasn't in space... It doesn't look too magical for me. I don't necessarily like the CAS style either, it looks more goth and similar to Vampires than what I would have liked. I will reserve my judgement until we have more info on gameplay though because that is what matters to me, and I hope it is interesting

I disagree with you there. I think that the whole other plane vibe is excellent. Very D&D.

Seems like he takes a potion to get magic powers though.
I hope that's all it is. I'm still super excited for the pack, but that sort of killed the vibe for me. Hoping it's a thing where you have to take a potion to learn the skill. AND we can create witches that have all that skill built into them.
@Jean i hope these potions would offer 'actual new gameplay' and not kind of those things that alter them sims emotions which we could already do in some form.
September 10 is too long to wait! But I'll bet we get a good livestream to cover what's in it!
I absolutely love the goth vibe! And the floating islands are amazing! So it looks like we'll have potions, dueling, I believe teleportation, I think I saw summoning a phoenix, and possibly transformation! I saw both hand and wand casting, a variety of brooms, and they said spells can go wrong with a wand you don't know how to use?! I'm SO on this!!
Not a supernatural player, but I am excited for something different! The world looks incredible!!
I think there's also a potion for something regarding the sims' minds. Something like give them new traits, or change their personality, or make them forgetful, I'm not sure. But I do see what looks like a head with an "x" on the left side of the second photo.

EDIT: Confirmed to be a life state

Two neighborhoods. Granted they have different looks.

A death potion would be most welcome. I'm always looking for new ways to deal with problematic sims.
I see what looks like luck, death and love. I suspect they will be something similar to the flower bouquets.
Looks like at least some kind of love potion and a death potion.
The creature pet/spell looked like a fire bird/Phoenix
