I'm okay with keeping the next game kinda kid friendly, though with the above 'mature' humourous references like the hamper, juice kegger parties etc, and some better romance interactions for teens, like in the sims 2, but nothing to push the rating too much. I enjoyed the witcher games (imo though, some of 'those scenes' were mature in ratings, but immature in other ways), but that's definitely not the kind of mature I want in ts5 or 4.

That said, totally agree with people wanting consequences in both S5 and S4. It makes for very boring gameplay when there is very little tension. Just yesterday my sim's enemy rang/texted and asked to get together for 'make-up drinks' or something to improve their relationship. I'm fairly sure one of the enemy's traits was evil, so it was really weird. I mean, I don't want super violence or anything, but at least in S5, please have enemies act like enemies, eg. call to confirm/spread nasty messages/rumours and do some trash talking in public. I love it when games let me be petty, b.c I'm a bit petty in real life (not that this is a good thing 😅).

It’s T for teen not T for toddlers.
Yeah it is like if they want to make a kid friendly game again, just bring the MySims series back for the kids.

ahahahaha :D (the original word in the meme would get my post deleted since swearing is censored here so I changed it to trash)

Every time I look at that new game cover I’m convinced they’re targeting the 12-16 year old demographic.

    Looks terrible.

Mobile should be very happy with it. It's half page of look at the packs you kids don't own yet! Hey build your bundle!!! Spend, spend, spend!! Ah, mobile did the white background hurt your eyes? No worries, we fixed it though pc users had to beg us to add gray plumbobs since they got really bad headaches, but as soon as you guys complained here in mobile we rushed to fix it. :p

Yup, the main menu redesign really made sure to highlight DLC even more than before. Imagine if a rebranding update in TS4 meant an overhaul of the core game features? Whims are still broken, aspirations are still boring, build mode is still miles behind where it should be...

I'm very excited to see where this goes though:

Wow, that looks effortless to do in that demo. Though it reminds me of a FB game, I like how they have thought about curved walls and how steps going to a 'stage' that is curved would work. Innovative stuff we haven't seen in years here.

The menu like the menu... For me there is no tragedy, I see it only for a while. ;)
But now the people, who don’t have most of the packs will be more upset: „uhuhuhu, look at these gray marks! Buy me instantly!”. :D

Exactly, it's why they take up half the page. Did they leave off the New game and Load buttons?

12-16 year olds is VERY generous. I'd say they are now targeting 6-10 year olds, seriously. Ridiculous.

Isn't the German rating for TS4 6+? That's who they are targeting now. 6 year olds. The next pack won't be The Sims 4 University Life. It'll be The Sims 4 Pre-school Life.

I never understand the the "sims4 is rated T for Teen argument" whenever people are asking for stuff. Because if you go by the ESRB ratings, here are some other games that are rated T for Teen: Fortnite, Destiny 2, Overwatch and Apex Legends. All are games where you run around and shoot people, but as soon as we start asking for stuff like more ways for our sims to die, then it is suddenly "because the game is T for teen".

What plum me off, as well few other people I talked to, when one of the developers use said argument why they aren't willing (from implication) to create casinos/gambling of some sorts in the game. Like hell, said developers also pull other two weak arguments, one of which is absurd and the other speaks for the player that clearly is incorrect or pretending to be oblivious to own's misinformation. I guess renaming the activity just like drinking bar's juice (which for some reason exists despite others resentment due to the rating) wasn't in their heads. Though the term was never dysphemish and I don't think the term "gambling" still poses rating threat.

There is a reason they drop using the "You rule!" slogan, as it was the opposite thing how the game represented itself. Nobody but the devs rule and what we say we want they disagree that "but you dont want x/y in the game". It's a vicious cycle I tell you.

The best part is that gambling was in The Sims 2. You had poker tables where Sims could play, win and lose money. Several lots downtown, like Lucky Shack Cards and Drink, were dedicated to it. It was a great group activity and the animations were satisfying.

And in TS3 with Lucky Palms premium content/venue (poker, slot machines and even a dedicated gambling skill). Heck, it may even dates back in TS1 era where multiplayer was a thing, as FreeSO seem to offer casino objects.

Yes sims 1 has gambling machines!

TS2 was suppose to have them too, you can see them in some Nightlife renders but they didn't make it into the final game.

They really didn’t redesign this for existing players. They only did it to attract new, clearly very young, buyers. This perfectly fits in a toys leaflet.

Omg! That really wouldn’t look out of place there at all.

Even My Sims branding looks better.

I miss Toys R Us. I loved them as a kid.

I think the Sims 4 will last 10 years (it will end in 2024.) So we're halfway through. Why? Because people are still buying the game and the sims 4 is not going anywhere. If it sells, why change it? It's EA after all. :)

One thing I'll say for Sims 4 -- I'm spending a lot less money than I did on Sims 3. Towards the end of Sims 3 we were getting 3-4 EPs a year with the occasional SP. Plus with the store team actually going onto the forums and getting input on what to add there -- total cash cow. Then again, Sims 3 is still selling quite well and the store is still up. By this time in the Sims 3 development cycle, Sims 2 was discontinued and given away to anyone who asked for it (well, and Sims 4 was out as well).

I do wonder about this, tbh. Both Sims 3 and Sims 4 must have a healthy sales base, but I'm not sure that Sims 4 is really doing quite as well as official comments indicate. The rebranding is obviously meant to bring new people in, so are their packs not selling as well as projected?

Just rambling here. I'm not sure I have an actual point.

Putting those stuff pack icons horizontally triggered my ocd.
And that's how EA exploits buyers. By making the advertising section take a bit more than half of the screen.

I really don't understand why they insist on dragging the game for so long. It already feels outdated compared to the rest of games on the market, it's a laughing stock.

When Sims 1 came out it was classified as a teen game. But it broke through that barrier upon release. You had young children peering over their parents or their teen siblings shoulders wanting to experience and play the game. You had adults and older people diving in. Not only was it fresh and new, but it was fun and you actually ruled. You could be creative. It had adult humor. Sims 2 enhanced that and also let you create your own worlds. Sims 3 opened it up. Sims 4 just left a lot of people wanting. No idea what their vision was. I am not even sure that they know. I am willing to wait for a sims 5 game if it comes a long. But sell me something solid or sell me nothing at all.

I mean the new look with the game covers doesn't look all that bad to me but it's not great either. I think it defintiely looked better before but I'm not super annoyed, probably because when I was little I loved looking at the Toys R Us ad in the paper when my mom would get them, lol. Although I like that Toys R Us ad better because the background is less busy. I'm more concerned with the part about them reaffirming their commitment to the Sims 4 for "many" more years. I'd like to know how long those many more years are and how much more The Sims 4 as is can take. And will those many more years include fixing core problems and bugs?

Immediately when I saw the rebranding I thought it was a marketing ploy. It's like hitting the refresh button on the brand and hoping with the new look you can draw in newer (and I'm sure younger) players. I think I read something about being able to tell the packs apart more easily but you could do that much more simply with the old look than the new. If I didn't look closely and read I wouldn't have been able to tell GPs apart from EPs at first glance. Plus, it was hard for me to focus on what I was reading because I kept being drawn to all the activity on the covers with the sims and the backgrounds. Depending on the computer lighting some of the parents who buy these packs for their kids likely won't be able to tell much of a difference at all unless they read. Are the busy, non cheap, and/or non computer savvy parents really going to go through the motions of returning the wrong pack they bought the kid or just buy the correct one too and tell the kid to have fun? This is a shadily brilliant tactic.

I think the story creator thing is a step in the right direction from what I've read about it. It would've been better if they'd left it all up to the players with the option to be guided by a quiz if desired but it's a step towards making it easier for players who want to start with more experienced sims or create townies so that's nice. If that extends to a Sims 5 hopefully it'll be more or completely player controlled rather than computer controlled. Let us set a sim's skill, finances, etc ourselves instead of having it set for us.

It's sad. Them rebranding took away from the decent things they announced. And literally no one asked for them to change it, at least not like that. They could've just made a dark mode and made it optional to toggle between both instead. Hopefully this is optional for the sake of players who suffer migraines and other conditions. It's the first time I've ever scrolled through the twitter responses on a Sims post and almost every single one was negative. I think someone also said this was supposed to give the game a more modern look but the original packs looked more modern to me. These look more retro. They can step back in time for the cover designs but not the game itself and give it the same or a better level of substance than it used to have.

To me it has never been a proper sequel to 1, 2 and 3 so as far as I'm concerned, it's never been "dated". Just a side game that's gone on too long.

All the Sims games are outdated. Yet I still enjoy playing TS3, even though it was released in 2009. TS4 is a sparkly cartoon mess and the sooner there's a good new simulated life game from another company (no longer any faith in Maxis or EA to produce one), I'm on it.

I’m outdated. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t bother me :D I honestly have no idea why Sims 3 would be ‘outdated’. And why it would matter by the way. Sims 1 for instance was clearly designed retro style. It’s why everyone loves the music in the game, it’s very sixties. Sims 1 really doesn’t breath 2000. The game looks older than that, but that was actually its charm.
