How To Install Store Items

Oh, they redid the forums a while back and now all the old links just go to the main directory. Sorry about that, @PeterTheSims3. I don't think there is a way to direct link to the old stuff any more.

Oh 🐸🐸🐸🐸... I downloaded your Excel spreadsheet earlier today. I don't quite understand the steps; i.e. what to install first etc. Was hoping to see the guide so that I might understand it better.

    @PeterTheSims3 -

The picture in the first post shows the order I installed in, and it's the first page of the spreadsheet. So, I installed the patterns first and then largest world: Midnight Hollow Gold complete with the toy shop. I also threw in the bow tie shoes and the mid-century dining chair in that file because there was room and I didn't want to forget to do them. (The chair is geeked up in the set, so it needs to be installed first. And, the bow tie shoes were left out of the set they are shown in.) That's the short hand on line "0" at the top of the spread sheet.

After installing them, I move out that file and install IN ORDER: Riverview (RV), Lunar Lakes (LL), Lucky Palms (standard, not gold as the casino is included in a compilation), and Sunlit Tides Gold with the retreat. The file then had room for me to include the carousel in it, but only when I installed them in that order! That file is then renamed to end in "1" instead of the "0" that you get when installing it. Then you move it out to join the first file that ended in zero.

The next line shows that I installed two worlds, but only the standard versions of them (not the venues that come with them). I used Gold lettering and included the venues when I installed the gold version, but just black lettering and no venue when I installed just the world. (I also included the note: WORLD ONLY in red to help you know that is what I did.) Then reasoning here was file size only I think. These two worlds were all that fit in this file that is renamed to end in "2" and moved to join the others.

I hope this helps explain the data better to you. The first page (shown in the pic in the first thread) is how I installed based on file sizes after compression on my system. The real file names and all the various sizes are what you find on the other tabs of the spreadsheet just in case you don't own everything (and of course to explain my shortened titles of the files).

@ciane Where is your other detailed thread on how to install store items?! I can't find it.
  • cianeciane Posts: 16,996 Member
The latest maintenance completely destroyed all traces of it? Like when the new forum replaced the old. I show NO evidence of it.

All that work and information just ....GONE? :bawling:

I have a back up of the old stuff, but the hyperlinks don't carry over, just the text. So then I have to add each url code and info for each of the links. It was very time-consuming when I did it before. I added some links into the first few comments on this thread. Over time, I guess I could get it all linked up again.

Ugh. I'm so sorry, Ciane. Not only that all your hard work is gone, but all the questions you answered for people are gone also. Such a huge databank for Sims 3 players missing. Have you asked a guru or EA person about it being missing to see if it could be restored? Maybe it was an accident.

I haven't asked any guru or EA person about it. I thought I'd wait and see if others appear to be missing threads from the maintenance and what the response may be.

@Simasaurus09 That is awesome! Ciane, could you copy/paste and make a new one? Would the links copy/paste?

The problem is that when you copy that hyperlinked text into the comment box, it just shows up as text.

Here's the copy of the special lots made:
    .....
    Monte Vista Festival Grounds
    Aurora Skies Festival Lot
    Dragon Valley Festival Lot
Midnight Hollow Festival (If lot does not show up, move 0x8d53e630fb04dbb642f6a16f6c61ebbf from “DCBackup” to “Library” Folder.)

    Roaring Heights Festival Lot

Lots used in the pictures of the Brunch at the Old Mill:. (The waterfall lot is tweaked slightly to fit in better.)

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=8314506
    .....

They don't copy with their hyperlinks. If I could quote the old comments, I could then copy the codes. But just "copy" by itself will just give text.

Thank you so much for the link and info @Simasaurus09!

Right-click links and select Copy link address
    Delete the
    https://web.archive.org/web/20170430232315/

    in front of the link.

It would take a while to do all of this. If you need help I could probably find the time.

Yeah, that's what I am talking about. Every single individual link has to be put in. I think at this point, I'll just leave it as is. A helpful guru who could recover the thread and even sticky it would be awesome right now,

@SimGuruDrake, @SimGuruRusskii, or @SimGuruHydra, the old missing thread had active links to all store items possible. It really made reinstalling store content easier. Simmers didn't have to download a spreadsheet. They could download directly from the thread.

Old thread can still be found here:
    https://web.archive.org/web/20170430232315/http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/807788/reinstall-store-stuff-no-repeats-or-disappearing

Is it possible to resurrect it with working links?

@EA_Spectre Can you have a look at this problem? Thanks.

Does anybody know if there are any items in Build/Buy section of the Store that aren't parts of any sets? Don't want to miss anything.

Yes there are some, but I think it's just a couple items that are premium content like the uber sanitizing toilet.

Ciane, do you know what items are in these? Or what the downloaded files are called? The image is a snippet from pegasas1993's Free Items thread. (If the link doesn't work or the image isn't there, the two items are listed under section: "13. PROMOTIONS:")

It looks like the quarterback and cheerleader and diva set that you only got if someone who hadn't ever bought sim points referred someone else when they first bought sim points.

I'm doing a complete reinstall of my store content. For the first time ever, I got a dbc file when installing store content. The different thing is that I have all my EPs and SPs installed instead of just installing from base game (*I think*)

I opened the dbc file with S3PE and it has lots of unknown files but also things like Salt Water fish monger, spring training and bucketful of bolts under the category 'STBL'. Just wondering what this is. It must be from EA because this is a brand new wiped computer reinstall of The Sims 3 and store content. However, I did bring over my old downloads.

Here is an image of the S3PE file:

EDIT TO ADD: After googling a lot of the titles of these STBL files, they seem to be limited time achievements. I don't really understand why they are appearing for the first time in my dccache folder since this is at least the hundredth install I've done! But oh well. They are from EA. I hope this doesn't bork my install.

I've started from scratch installing store stuff and have gotten some venues that install as .dbc files before as well. I think because someone makes the venues in their games and then exports them before EA places them in the store. It's weird how sometimes they show one way and other times not. But, maybe just the fact that you previously downloaded them makes the install see them as cc. I bet that's it! Do you save them as soon as you download them and then install them? Now, I have to test this out sometime. If you have a clean vanilla sims 3 folder and DL all the store stuff fresh into a folder; then, install the content, you should see only .ebc files. IF you then create a new vanilla sims 3 folder and install the files into that folder, will there still only be .ebc files? IF you copy the files from the downloads folder after installing them and then install them into a vanilla folder, will there be some confused .dbc files?

I think this is worth investigating. I think the fact that a file was installed already might alter the way the launcher reads it!
  • ZeeGeeZeeGee Posts: 5,356 Member
@ciane I copy/pasted the downloads I'd already installed instead of my fresh downloads folder so you very well could be right!
  • ZeeGeeZeeGee Posts: 5,356 Member
Okay, tested that out. I think it's actually got something to do with all my EPs and SPs being installed. I usually only install with base game. I tried installing with only base game enabled from the same saved (previously installed) sim3packs and didn't get the dbc file.
