My Game Keeps Crashing, Still! (A Slight Rant) UPDATE!

GalacticGalGalacticGal Posts: 28,452 Member
I pulled my Mods folder and then updated the game. I only added back MCCC and RTF once I got word from their creators that they were working just fine with the latest patch. A third mod I put back in, again after the creator said it, too, was working. I took a chance on the other two. Game started crashing again, so I removed the last mod I reinstalled, played for a bit and it crashed again. Then I removed the mod I'd installed right before the last one. Game still crashes. What gives?

As far as I can perceive there is nothing in this latest patch that I needed, personally, yet it's making it nearly impossible for me to play my game! I have just decided (as I was about to ask for some advice) that I will do a 'repair game' and see what happens. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter what's coming along in the future, as I won't be able to play. :open_mouth:

Did you also clean out your caches. If you did and still crashing your save might have gotten corrupted. You could try a repair but if all that does work - you might have to go to an earlier save or start a new game.

Are you taking pictures with the tripod that came with Moschino? This will crash the game.

In what way does the game crash for you? In my game I have an issue with all sims on a lot freezing in place and I have to save and exit to unfreeze them. This has only been happening since the latest patch for me. Like you all my mods are up to date.

Are you sure none of those mods conflict with each other?

Have you tried not putting in any mods and see if it crashes?

Is this a recent thing? Just asking because I've played a ton with the tripod and the photo career. I have not crashed. Haven't had a chance to play in the last week to 10 days though.

It’s been a thing since release. I think it’s caused by going through poses too fast?

No. In fact the only picture-taking that goes on in my game, is when the Paparazzi snap away and my Sim via RTF goes to a photoshoot.

I attempt to save and not only does it freeze, but I get the popup that the game is no longer responding and Windows asks if I want to shut it down. It's an actual crash.

Yes. I had all five mods working splendidly until the latest patch hit. Sacrificial even stated that his mods work with MCCC and that we could go ahead and add back one or more of his mods to test them, leaving MCCC in place. I only have his RTF mod.
    DeKay wrote: »

Yes. I played without my Mods folder right after I patched, waiting for word on what the patch did to the game.

Thank you for your many insights. Since this game is my main source of relaxation, which I really, really need in these 'trying' times, I'm even being excluded from that. I can actually feel the tension in myself. :open_mouth:

I recently did a repair game. I also threw out my saves folder, since I presumed that it was corrupted. I realized, too, that I had repaired without removing my Mods folder. So, I reinstalled all of my mods again. As it happens the Meaningful Stories mod was also recently updated. Now, I have a problem of another sort. Some of my Sims, even as I was creating them in CAS, have a rather garish red and white about their entire bodies. I'll try to snap photos so all can see. It's not the multi-colored Sims that suggests a vid card failure, but looks more intentional. One of the girls even has a red question mark on the front of her jacket. I had an ah-ha moment upon awaking today. In the one mod I use, the emotion colors used are changed, but I believe we can also set them to how we want them. For instance, 'happy' is now a translucent white. I was able to bring the family back into CAS and discovered that in one instance of changing out the clothing, one of the two girls affected went back to normal. Sadly, only one of them. The only cc I have is Khitsule's Pointy Ears. I don't deal with skins or the like, and I no longer have any cc clothing, as those haven't been updated in ages. My next fix, after I take a photo or two to show you, will be to remove that part of the mod which has the colors to see if that does the trick. If so, I shall be certain to reach out to roBurky and let them know this is new, as it's the first time I've had this extraordinary problem. :open_mouth:

This is totally mind boggling - I do hope you get it sorted and figured out. I am really at a total loss as to what could be happening to your game.

    @Writin_Reg, me, too!

I have a couple of photos to share!

Another player gave me a link to follow. Seems a few of us are having this particular problem. It's not mod-related, according to this person. I clicked on Me Too and posted my picture. Crinrit is on the case. (And I know I've spelled that wrong) :open_mouth:

@GalacticGal seems like you're not the only one with that issue: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Game-Glitch/m-p/4371990#M9186

Someone in that thread suggested that it's missing textures. If a repair didn't work (if you've tried it without any mods or CC), it might be that something somewhere (a mod or CC or something) deleted the necessary textures and you might need to clear your cache or in the worst case, reinstall the game :/

My game wouldn't run with RivaTuner installed and enabled. It's an FPS (frames per second) limitation tool. If you have that, I recommend removing it.

As for the skin texture issue, it might be that your save has become corrupted if you at one point had some kind of texture mod that was later removed. That said, I've sadly no clue as to how to fix it =/

Thank you so much for your ideas, though. I've clicked on the Me Too on a help thread. Someone on this site gave me a link to it. I'm not alone with this issue. And, it's not mod-related. Yay. I've already dumped my old game saves. The one I'm working in is brand, spanking new.

I would suggest that you uninstall the whole game and reinstall it. There might be an issue with a missig file.
You can take out your saves and mods folders, so you do not lose any game progress.

Yeah that is a missing mesh glitch. Basically a CC is missing the shell that makes it appear in the game. You can do trial and error to see which one is missing or use a 3rd party site to make finding it easier.

    Guide about it:

Can't be. I have Pointy Ears and a simple headband. I removed my Mods folder, I emptied my saves folder and the problem remains. Others have had this occur and there's a link I was given to Me Too on the help site.

I just did that last night on the advice of another player. According to the instructions, my files should still be intact. I did make a copy of said folder, just to be sure. I'll let you know how things go a bit later when I get a chance to play.

Again, I wish to thank ALL of you for your helpful and insightful suggestions. It means a lot to know others are willing to reach out and help.

Probably you did this already, but have you removed your whole Sims 4 folder (back up or save it obviously) in documents and started the game? This creates a whole fresh, clean one in your documents. You can add back your mods, saves etc. It's my understanding that the files in it can become corrupted over time.

UPDATE: I uninstalled via Origin, after making a backup copy of my Sims4 game folder, just in case. I have excellent news! I was able to place lots from the My Library and when I scrolled through all of my saved households, I didn't spy a single red/white Sim among them, when they were peppered throughout my saved Sims! I played for only a couple of minutes but so far all is well again. YAY and thank you so much, ALL of you who offered suggestions and your support. :)

It's been brought to my attention, that removing the game folder itself, is more for those who run it on Mac, as opposed to those of us on Windows. This could be why I'm no longer allowed to remove the game folder, come to think of it. But, all is well that ends well. I restarted my Cantrell family, with the aspiration of my teen becoming a Global Superstar once again. I only had a short time so once I got his family into the Wright Way House, I went ahead and added a few venues that he'll need on his rise to fame. :)

Nah, I've done it before on Windows. It works as long as you don't have the game opened while you're doing it. Which was why I thought there may be something interfering with it to cause you to not have the ability to do so.

Oh yeah, it works on Windows, it's just that Win tends to be a bit more "omg don't touch" with folders that something somewhere might be accessing at the time. Macs don't care, for the most part, unless the folder is specifically marked as "do not delete". So it tends to go weird more in Windows.

@DeKay I always have the game off any time I'm even looking at the game folder files.
