i always thought (totally unscientifically) that MMAO only picked things from my wishlist, especially the sets. So it would offer a few single items with a set I had 40% or more of, to make useless offers. Does not agree with your experience. So what do we conclude?

A common sign you "own the store" is when the MMOA machine tells you, and you have all the store sets. Like image below. I periodically go back to MMOA just to see this.
