Testing. What be this activity box thing?

  • Update: Mauvemorn at Sims4Studio.com is awesome as usual. I asked over there and she said that people are ripping sims, posing them in Blender, then rendering screenshots from that. I haven't tried this yet, but I think that may very well be the solution I've been looking for.
  • Well, I think I'm just going to have to live with the low quality of full body and 3/4 body shots. I tried the graphicrules.sgr mod that SimplyJen suggested. Didn't change the sim's face quality in the full and 3/4 body shots. Tried SRWE which meant I could take a screenshot in 4K but given the size restrictions of tumblr…
  • I don't need a face shot. I need at least a 3/4 body shot but when I take a full body or 3/4 body shot the face looks terrible. It's just that I haven't made anything for TS4 in about a year and I don't remember the faces looking that bad in full body and 3/4 body shots. I was worried something was wrong with my game or…
  • Found out about this, too, though I'm not sure if my PC can handle it. Supposedly, SRWE will do the same thing but only when needed for screenshots.
  • My resolution is 1920x1080. I think it's possible to force a bigger resolution using SRWE. I may try that and see if it helps. Going to try the graphicrules.sgr that SimplyJen linked. This method by Katverse is an option, as well.
  • Huh. I guess it's normal then. I do seem to have better results if I take a 3/4 body shot. Unfortunately, I have resize the image in Photoshop to a smaller size and that just makes things worse. >:(
  • I'll try those, SimplyJen, thanks. I had some trouble a few days ago updating my game. The stupid EA app kept throwing errors. I finally got frustrated and re-installed my game so I wonder if that has anything to do with my problem. I tried repairing the game, as well. I hadn't thought of using the snipping tool. That's a…
  • I'm not sure if I can find one online that hasn't been resized for the purposes of a website. That doesn't make sense so I'll try to rephrase that. At Sims Resource, for example, a screenshot has to be 800x600 pixels. I think other websites may have similar restrictions so how would I find a high resolution image? Does…
  • Here's a vanilla sim. I had nothing in my mods folder when I took this screenshot. This image is a full body shot taken in CAS that I opened in Photoshop, zoomed into the face, then took a screenshot of what's on my computer screen. It's ghastly. Look at those lips! Is this normal?
  • I'm sorry, y'all. I'm beginning to think it's just me. As I said, I haven't made anything for TS4 in a while and I don't remember the screenshots looking this bad. Anyway, maybe this will help. I took a full body screenshot in the game (the dress is mine and I plan to upload it so I need a full body shot) then I open the…
  • So sorry for the late reply! I thought this thread was going to be closed so I didn't check for any replies. So, I took some screenshots in CAS and in live mode. If you open the full body images in Photoshop (or anything that will let you look at the image) the faces look awful. Maybe it's normal? I haven't made anything…
  • Well, I updated the driver and the problem is persisting. When I take a screenshot of the sim's face close up in CAS it looks beautiful but full body ones are very pixelated. Maybe this is normal behavior for sims given that CAS items, including skin, have small resolution textures. Maybe I can try the HQ mod. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • I tried it without mods and in live mode as well as in CAS and it looks okay on my screen but the full body screenshots are terrible, particularly in the face. Screenshots of faces up close both in live mode and in CAS look good. I'm going to try updating the driver and see if that help. Maybe it's my monitor?
  • Yes, it's set to uncompressed.
  • I don't use Blender 2.9 or above because I use Sims4Studio and Sims4Studio does not support the higher versions of Blender. I use Blender 2.78. When it comes to TSRWorkshop, I always export and import meshes either as .wso or .obj. depending on whether I'm making a TS3 item or a TS4 item. If it's a TS3 item I'm making I'll…
  • You are welcome. I hope the tutorial helps.
  • Looks like you can download it here: https://www.nexusmods.com/thesims4/mods/890?tab=description
  • Basically, your glass item should have the PhongAlpha shader and your alpha channel on your diffuse should be black, for full transparency, grey for partial transparency. The darker your texture's alpha channel, the more transparent your object will be. This tutorial is helpful, as well:…
  • The Sims games are the most mod-friendly games I've ever played. Bethesda games like Skyrim, on the other hand... Basically, you just download a custom content file and plop it into your mods folder. If you have a million files as I do, merge them using Sims4Studio, though I don't know if merging is even necessary given…
  • Just posting to say I FINALLY finished that tutorial I said I was going to write. All of the details are here, in this post: https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/990992/i-made-a-tutorial-on-how-to-give-a-skating-rink-an-invisible-swatch/p1?new=1
  • Thanks! I will definitely check these out. I'm in the process of making a gigantic load of OMSPs myself but I keep thinking there's got to be a way to make a shiftable OMSP.
  • Alrighty, boys and girls, I figured it out! I'm going to write up a tutorial on what to do in a new post tomorrow or the next day (It's really late, right now) and I'll provide a link to the finished product as well.
  • You mean with the texture's alpha layer? I'm not sure what you're talking about and I'm not sure what else I can do to the textures to change things. I can't remember now, but I think I even tried using a blank specular and/or bump map but that didn't do anything. I thought about changing the shader on the shadow mesh. I…
  • I'm not sure what you mean about fixing the light issue. I didn't do anything with the lights, actually. I just wanted you to be aware that you'll have to decide whether or not you wanted to keep the light as you can't have a light source for the visible swatch and no light source for the invisible swatch. Whatever you…
  • So, I made a test file and managed to get the invisible swatch working but...lol. Gravity doesn't work anymore, apparently. And at night, just as expected...the phantom light <whispers ominously> When it's invisible, you can still interact with the rink, but the animations are now borked. And, since I've got like five…
  • Well, I took a look at the skating and ice rinks and they have lights and sound attached. If you made the rink invisible, whether by replacing the meshes with empty meshes or whether by enabling alpha transparency and using a texture with an alpha channel for your invisible swatch (which, at first glance, would be likely…
  • I don't know if this will help and I'd have to do some research/experimentation, but looking at Bakie's invisible dance floor, it looks as if the main mesh is an empty mesh. As if he took dance floor mesh into Blender, went into edit mode (press "Tab"), highlighted the whole mesh (press "A") then deleted all the faces…
  • I think I might have already. If not, great idea!
  • Thought I'd update this thread with what I've learned. I FINALLY (!!!) figured out how to make OMSPs. First, you don't need to do this with every swatch if you are intending that only one swatch be invisible. For the invisible swatch, follow this tutorial to add and enable "alpha blended."…
