  • Thanks, @rosemow ! I'll slowly figure things out, I'm sure.
  • Hi! How many years has it been since I last posted? Anyway, here's a thing I've been thinking about for a while ... Brindleton Bay has this maritime New England aesthetic, right? And then we have mermaids. Somehow, the two together got me thinking of H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos. So, why not build a house for…
  • Thanks, @rosemow, @illusie! Your encouragement is always appreciated.
  • Thanks, @illusie! And I've just posted another thing to the gallery. Give me a moment, this is going to be a bit of a long post.... I went and picked up "Realm of Magic" a week or two ago, mostly because I heard that the build items were To Die For but the in-game builds To Die From. Yes, bad (or, at least, questionable)…
  • Yeah, also check to see how old the build is. Some things that were totally fine once, now have problems. Some of my builds in the gallery place without the stairs I put in them, because the placement rules have changed in the time since I uploaded them. Something similar could have happened with the doors in this build.
  • @DeanXeL , I'm not sure I understand the point of the second step in your process. Why not just push and pull on the hole you just made? Won't a platform, if it is brought down to the same level as the floor around it, just meld with the floor the next time you go to look at it? If the objective is to obtain the three…
  • Are you sure there are no friezes here? Try moving the deck "room" away from the main building and see if a frieze appears anywhere. This thing has been happening to me for years and years and always involves a frieze, whether it's visible or not, pushing my spandrel down.
  • Thanks, @rosemow ! I really like the way the towers turned out, too, not to mention the greenery as I usually struggle with landscaping.
  • If the fence gets in the way of the foot of the stair, use a spandrel instead. That's what I always do. If you find yourself removing a first-storey ceiling instead of a second-storey floor, that means that your second-storey room has been exploded -- it does not actually exist anymore. Some people are okay with this; some…
  • Gallery link: Volcanic Temple Well, I've been busy with work in the midst of this past year's nastiness. Plus, the platforms update last November introduced a bug that prevents stairs from being usable when they pass through a room with a deleted floor. Since that's 90% of my builds and I don't care for the various…
  • Huh. I could have sworn that when platforms were first introduced, I tried placing a platform indoors and it created a space with no ceiling. So I haven't done platforms that way since. I just tried it again, and the ceiling, as you say, remained over the platform. I don't know if I'm misremembering my initial experience,…
  • If you're lowering the platform to reintegrate it with the room, don't forget to select it and build its ceiling. If you're adding platforms by plunking them straight in from the build menu (rather than isolating a room and raising the floor) you'll find that the platform area has no ceiling. Adjacent spaces won't…
  • My work is #nomods #nomoo #nocc and marked with the hashtags indicating such. I'm Xinqun on the gallery. Like I said earlier, though: some of the placement rules in the game have changed over time, so you have to be careful with older builds. The changes I'm aware of are as follows: 1) Placement under stairs. At some…
  • I'm pretty much always nocc, nomods, nomoo. I'm Xinqun on the gallery. Thing is, though, a few things in the game have changed over time. The result is that some things really were "no MOO" when I uploaded them, may require MOO now to place properly.
  • Thanks, @illusie ! (Yeah, I'm kind of away from simming for a bit ... again. Not to worry, I'll be back eventually.)
  • Huh. For some reason I always thought she lived with them. I mean, I remember her better than I remember their actual mom.
  • Didn't they have an Aunt Gertrude who lived with them?
  • Hope you have a lot of fun with it, @Jen411371__ !
  • @lsnishi Love the use of textures on your rebuild of Foxbury Commons, both inside and out. I especially like the vertical brick elements marching off down the right side of the facade and the circles of greenery in front. I am, of course, a big supporter of having a bedroom in the university commons so your sim can…
  • Thanks, @rosemow! Maybe one day I'll redo it as a residential lot, too.
  • Gallery link: Skeldale Veterinary I recently got my hands on the Cats & Dogs expansion, so of course I started redoing stuff. First thing was Whiskerman's Wharf. I decided that this, really, was where the vet clinic should go, so I made one. I call it Skeldale Veterinary, which is of course a reference to Skeldale House,…
  • Thanks, @rosemow , @Hallgerd ! @Hallgerd , the roof sides are a bit higher because they're actually one square deeper than the glass portions. Feel free to download and pick it apart to see!
  • Gallery link: Science Centre I actually first built this ages and ages ago, back when we first got glass roofs. Remember when that was the new big thing? Now we have configurable stairs and ladders. Kids these days will never understand. Anyway, I looked at this again, did a bit more playtest-and-polish (the floors were…
  • My vote is for park. A place with a playground and trees would look great in the middle of all those houses.
  • It looks like we can't place anything on a diagonal wall if it's within half a wall from the edge; which means that if your diagonal wall is just one wall length, you can't place anything on it, period. I'm pretty sure we used to be able to do it, though, so this must be the result of a recent update. Is there a reason for…
  • @hellokitty1496 I'm not sure what you mean by "autosaved" in this context. Do you mean that you should be able to store the current version of a build project in the cloud, not on your computer? "Autosaved" usually means that the game will automatically save the current game world (not just the build project!) every few…
  • The only time I've ever had a wall thing behave like that was with a convex corner cabinet -- you know, the cabinet piece for wrapping around a 270-degree corner if you ever happen to have an L-shaped kitchen. Presumably it behaves properly when attached to an actual 270-degree corner, but I dislike wrapping around those…
  • @crocobaura I'm not quite sure what you mean about the height placements. Haven't mirrors always been fixed at their individual specific heights regardless of the room height (I mean, no matter how tall the room is, the mirror is always the same distance from the floor) and haven't we always been able to choose the height…
  • From what I've seen of Glimmerbrook (I haven't got the pack) it's really more Art-Nouveau than anything. Just a Google image search for Art-Nouveau architecture will get you some amazing examples, if you're looking for inspiration. For Magnolia Promenade, I got rid of everything and built a bunch of Pall Mall / Piccadilly…
  • @PitlordMaggie Ah, I guess that video explains that second idea I had, and I kind of jumped the gun there. My bad! But yeah, you can get all sorts of cool things with that half wall + extended eaves trick.
