My first visit to the updated forum. The old one was better

  • I suspect you need .Net Framework 3.5 installed. It should be in your Windows components settings. This provides compatibility for older programs like The Sims 3 launcher.
  • Sorry for the late reply. I'm just browsing again after a while and came across this. Sims 3 cannot address more than about 4GB of video memory, and 4GB of system side memory. Since it doesn't hard-cap it, setting it to 2GB is plenty as that is the most it looks for when configuring. For the CPU, it's the highest level…
  • Yes, probably add a note that we should list expansions required/recommended. (Traits from expansions, additional traits from University Life perks, and Occult States.) The game is pretty good at removing and replacing outfits that aren't available when loading up imported Sims, so don't worry about that.
  • Yes, wishing well children have random stats. This means due to the ratio of stats you probably don't want, those you do and law of averages, you are more likely to get bad stats. Evil is not necessarily a bad trait though, it has many advantages. The only real disadvantage is trait incompatibility with good Sims.
  • I know this issue has bounced in and out of light several times. I'm personally trying to track down this issue because it seems to affect all platforms. Running Wine I can intercept and trace some of the Direct3D behavior. It's well known that the Sims 3 has some very weird behaviors on Gamma and color matching. I haven't…
  • The past few days my Sims (Charles and Millie) have been raising a son, Miles. Needless to say the roommate Sim who hates children is not to thrilled about it, and been very begrudging about the whole thing, especially when the son, now a child, started kicking her butt in chess. At least she's begrudgingly accepting about…
  • The easiest way to identify an unknown seed if you have University life and high enough science skill, is to analyze it. The new plant sample in your inventory will be from the seed and tell you what the seed is.
  • You shouldn't have to unless you do so by manually copying the install. (Still yes, you can do that, move the install and change the registry keys. It does save you from having to reinstall the game.)
  • Try frozen yogurt if he needs something cold. You can always make your own in the blender. Frozen Yogurt is good for the same reason as cheese (less lactose).
  • Yeah, that's what they get for outsourcing to people who only received a crash course in reading scripts from a computer. Would you believe I had a tech support person for an ISP not know what "SMTP" is.
  • This was before Maxis was bought out by EA. At the time, Maxis was developing a generic Python cross-platform version of the original Sim City as well. It's primary target was Unix platforms on which it could take advantage of multi-user machines and allow multiple players to work on the same city at once. What remains of…
  • Wine is a platform to run Windows software on any other platform. It is a windows implementation. You have to install the Windows version of Sims 3 into the same Wine installation to use the CAW tool. (You can't use the Mac version).
  • You should see what us Linux users get treated like. I had one support user ban me from one of EA's MMOs just for complaining that he kept asking me "what Windows version are you using"
  • You can use Wine to run Create a World. However, you need a copy of the Windows version of Sims 3. If you own the steam version you have a dual-platform key. I don't know if the Disc version has one, though.
  • I wish they would update the porting stack. I hear they are still using cider I mean seriously? You'd probably do better running the Windows version under Wine. The Windows version runs great on Linux under Wine BTW, even under 64bit mode but I don't have any recent test results for Mac, and mac has been more troublesome…
  • When installing the sims, simply select a directory on the second drive to install to. It should work fine.
  • It's not very likely a graphics problem. This is more likely to do with the interpreter having too much going on. Try reducing your active lots to 6 or 4.
  • If it says device recognized that isn't an issue, of course if there is no data it might. Still, if it runs it's not an issue either. You should be able to override most of the settings.
  • It's under 32bit programs, not 64bit programs.
  • If it's only your game settings folder (the saves subfolder in My Documents), not the game binary folder (the one in the "My Programs (x86)" directory structure) it should be fine to just delete it if you don't mind losing saves. I personally recommend syncing your documents to cloud services such as OneDrive, not using…
  • Would you mind if I make a request. I'll put it here because it's quite technical. It's rather technical, and I've mentioned it elsewhere. Could you update the Mono version of the engine to the latest version and switch to the newer Garbage Collector. It would really speed up the game, as well as loading speed. Adding a…
  • In my opinion Sims 3 is the pinical of the Sims. They really need to make a remaster of Sims 3 with 8K textures, 64bit mode, and 16 lots loaded at a time. Include all the behaviors and minimal necessary items from the expansions packs and one brand new custom super-sized world that requires the 64bit binary, then have the…
  • Search the dog health sites for liquid diets. That should really help the dog eat. If he can drink water he can eat a liquid diet. He probably can eat it on his own, especially now that his jaw is fixed. Eventually you can wean him to wet food, but I'd avoid dry food with his teeth (or lack there of) Any of the formulas…
  • Well first thing, if you have the knowledge to build your own, I highly recommend doing that. I'll include tips for that later: As of optimal setup for Sims 3 as the most demanding game played: 64bit quad core processor. (This provides 2 cores for the game and 2 additional cores to offload the OS and driver functions to.)…
  • Yeah, that is usually the case. There are two forms of invisible sim bugs. One only part of the sim disappears, one all of the sim dissapears. It can be created when a bug disrupts the compositing routine that generates the appearance, or when the outfit data is completely bad. Changing the outfit somehow usually helps. To…
  • I know this will probably never happen, but if Maxis/EA would update the engine to use NGen GC instead of Boehm this would really help. This basically would reduce the amount the game lag when old data gets flushed from the system. Things like Sims getting stuck outside of houses and having to reroute tends to create a lot…
  • This is obviously a bug (pardon the pun) It also seems to affect the "pick up pet" interaction. I think the entire "pick up pet" routine is bugged. EA REALLY needs to implement a stub for unknown routines so that routines implemented in expansion packs you don't have simply write an error to log, instead of resetting the…
  • I highly recommend if you go for an AMD A-Series, that you get at least an A8. I have an A4, and the only reason it can run anything is that I've overclocked the graphics core. You can't do that with a computer you haven't built yourself. If I clock the graphics core at stock speed, it's graphics capabilities are very…
  • First thing you are running on your internal graphics chip instead of running on the discrete adapter. You need to go to your settings panel and fix this.
  • That content shouldn't cause an issue. It may be a conflict with something else you have installed. Anyways, to manually uninstall all custom content delete the following subdirectories from your Sims 3 Data directory (My Documents\Electronic Arts\Sim): DCCache, DCBackup, and Downloads. This will allow you to properly…
