If a sim has NO moodlets at all, they take on the emotion of "Fine" and adopt a very neutral portrait. Fine gives you no bonuses or penalities, and no special actions. It is, technically, an emotion. In fact it has like +10,000 moodlet points. So no matter WHAT is going on with your sim, when they are sleeping, they are of the 'asleap' emotion. Yep! That's a-OK. The whole "Don't hand-craft your spouse" rule is there to keep traits random. If you want to give them a full body makeover, be my guest! The same rule is going to apply in TS4's Legacy Challenge.

It is a downside, but not a complete hamstring. The lack of Portraits stings more than the lack of a family tree. I don't see a problem with that. You can't count the child as part of your Legacy Family's bloodline, but no problems otherwise.

From what I understand, you get 100k for minimal effort up to 3 times. It completely eliminates any kind of challenge that money might impose, so I would call it broken enough to be cheating.

If you are having trouble getting Barry to the needed level of employment before old age takes him, there is no rule against slowing down time for this challenge. Mind you, 1 day = 1 day so your score is unaffected by the game speed you play at.
