For me it takes at least a month since I like to make larger houses with lots of details and I work a little bit at a time :blush: I even had one build that I started and finished 2 years later in ts3 :lol:

If you undo the roundedness of the roofing in the first one until it's completely straight you'll have what you're aiming for I think.

You're going about it the right way using the 2 half gable roof pieces and the one full gable piece placed on the floor above to get the traditional barn roof aka gambrel roof. I think columns need flooring below them so you won't be able to place them on the 2nd floor like in your pic. You can however turn on the move objects on cheat and you should be able to place them then.
