Also from what I can figure upgrading will cost me around $300-$500 but I'll keep looking into it.

    GPU= Video Card
    PSU= Power Supply

To avoid any bottleneck, I would go with a Radeon 7750 ($105), Antec 400w Neo Eco PSU ($40), and 4GB of RAM. I don't know what kind of RAM your motherboard will need though. You'll need to tell me the model of your machine so I can find out. I don't see it costing you any more than $200 maximum, and you'll be able to play TS3, TS2, and the new Simcity on these parts. I assume Sims 4 will come out in 2014, so then would be a good time to get a new PC.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilion+Desktop+-+6GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/6835576.p?id=1218809255253&skuId=6835576&st=6835576, 6892279_&cp=1&lp=1#tab=specifications

I'm looking now at the parts you recommended, also thinking a bit ahead, just in case I can buy a new desktop in a few months what about this one?

Again, no. It's graphics aren't very good. At all. And don't use bestbuy. Use http://www.newegg.com/

And you don't know anyone who can build a computer for you?

Best buy is the only place I know that will install the parts. I *can't* do it myself. It's either there or http://www.ginstar.com/home.aspx here and I'd have to know exactly what I'm getting since they don't speak great english though they are good at what they do.

Also I may be able to use credit at best buy for upgrading.

Anywhere else and It'll take a lot longer.

The people I know who could possibly build a computer for me live in England and possibly Texas. No where close to where I live.

Better APU, more RAM, and better manufacturer than the last one for only $30 more(and no newegg tax unless you live in CA, NJ, or TN). Say you want to upgrade 2014. Get a new PSU and GPU and you'll be set for Sims 4. You won't find a quality PSU in any of these premade machines.

You don't need to know anything about hardware to upgrade it. It is pretty easy, and unless you are extremely reckless with the parts nothing bad will happen.

Aprilise, if you're not comfortable with upgrading parts yourself then in my opinion its certainly worth paying someone to do it. Not everyone is comfortable with that sort of thing and that's okay!

It takes about 10 minutes at the most to install those parts. There are only 7 or 8 parts in a computer, depending on if you have a discrete GPU or not.

It doesn't matter how long it takes. Just because you're comfortable with it doesn't mean everyone is. Nor is there a need for you to try to convince them to become comfortable with it. Its their life, not yours! :)

Totally understandable! I think you've made your point though :)

I can't do it, literally. Anyway yes best buy is expensive, but wal mart doesn't have powerful enough desktops.

My stepfather uses this place: http://www.ginstar.com/ I've used them too when the fan went dead on this desktop, they work well. Also the game is livable for now, but I just wanted simple options for if in the future I can get one.

If that means I go to best buy and use store credit then that's where I'll go. I don't prefer it, since they are expensive, but there aren't a lot of options for me.

Newegg has no tax, only shipping. Almost every part in my computer came from there.

Yes I understand you want me to order from that site. Good, I understand. Now please understand that even if I order the parts from there I *can't* install them.

I also prefer to not order electronics online, it's personal preference. Yes I realize it can be cheaper, but it's my preference.

Thank you for offering your advice.

I realize my computer is older, what would you recommend (parts only) that would be the best value, but also run the game. I don't need it to be perfect with all settings on high, I don't use it for anything except sims.

A 6670 or 7750 would be good. You'll need a new PSU for any card.

I recommend saving up your money and buying a new computer next year.

I would recommend increasing memory to 4gb:

    http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3228139&CatId=3412 56.99

The reason I recommended a 600W is you can usually find a a good one for about $50 - I paid 39.99 for a Cooler Master 600W. Shopping right you can get a 600W for the same price as a 400W.

    http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1554173&CatId=1483 final cost 29.99

    And the video card.

    http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5639261&CatId=3669 see I told you I saw 9800 for 49.99

Need to know about where you live (not your home address) to recommend something. Usually there's a neighborhood guru. I still have a Windows 98 customer (don't ask). Small computer stores are popping up like weeds and are very competitive with big box stores. Most organizations have an IT person who can help (church, school, library, etc.). You don't know how many times Ive heard "my husband can look at that for you".

So for $140 and a couple of 6 packs (sometimes I can be had cheap).

Usually the phone call starts with hey just bought some beer and while your over here could you look at my computer, please, pretty please. I usually answer make sure the beer is cold and there's plenty of it. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out why my beer bottle is always empty.
I do not work for EA nor do I have any association with EA. I am a gamer helping other gamers.

No offense, but that is a horrible model. For 600w, it only has 20 amps each rail on 2 12V rails. Coolermaster makes terrible PSUs. Seasonic, XFX, some Rosewill models, and Antec are usually the best options.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182200
This Rosewill Model is the cheapest 600w+ PSU that is halfway decent.

And wattage isn't everything. Number of 12V rails, AMPS on the 12v rails, efficiency, and PFC are also extremely important when picking a PSU. My 400w Antec is better than your 600w.
