    Is there a way to play the game without having the disc in the drive?

    I'd really like to keep my Sims 3 disc safe in the case when I play my game because my computer is notorious for destroying my CDs.
    Is there a patch or file I can download to allow this?

      No, you cannot.

      Actually, you can...just remove the disc when the game is loaded.
