    Graham explained how things work on his twitter:

    ... Seasons, weather, festivals, and holidays are all four completely separate things. Festival lots change throughout the year according to which season it currently is. Holidays occur one day during each season and have nothing to do with Festivals, other than the Festival being a good place to celebrate them.

      Very nice :) I'm glad the holidays were finally addressed a little. I think people were starting to get kind of confused as to how those would work (one day, as long as the festival, etc.). And of course I like that they are completely separate from the festivals. So you can still have your sims enjoy them at home.
