Hi!
Started working on Drift! Never made a TS3 world before, not sure how far into this project I'll get but here's hoping!
---
"Theme"TLDR: Drift won't make any sense if you pay keen attention to ecoysystems. I have done vague research about where certain plants belong but everything gets smashed together -- I try to make each 'zone' make relative sense but there are tuns of different zones wayyyy too close together that would never occur in nature. Except maybe in the garden of Eden.
There will be no housing* and the community lot and rabbithole decor will hopefully be lent to easy customization/reconstruction for people who want to nuke everything out and
really build everything themselves, but unaltered I'm going for a whimsy, romantic, but vaguely eerie feel. TUNS OF PLANTS. If you don't like flowers then I'm sorry
The world itself is also large - though I'm not sure how large the actual playable area will be - so if your computer struggles with all the plants and such..
But we'll see. So far it purrs like a kitten but it's not done so :P
*there MIGHT be a house or two, if people really want to see premade families that are built into the town's initial 'lore'. I'm also plopping down some apartments that are largely just relandscaped copies from bridgeport so those count as houses, I suppose.
---
You might like this world if!:
Drift is the result of my OCD and desire to stick with one neighborhood. It's taken me till nigh the end-dawn of TS3 to get anywhere near to it evidently but here we are!
The idea is to make Drift ridden with empty lots and/or space for expansion, mostly empty for complete customization, but nicely landscaped/foundation areas for 'exploring' and building up. The problem with most of EA's worlds is that if you want to place a new park somewhere or forbid get a new EP with a tun of new community lots you usually have to sacrifice one thing or the next or cram things together or gahhh.. then you have to pack up your family/ies and move them and sacrifice all their friends and extended family ties and CRY
There will be no housing and no prepopulation*!
(Ok, there might be a liiiitle.)
Because FURTHER my OCD likes to make every single little family like some sociopath and design each house. I'm not the only one..right? .. ..
But I want to have a completely empty neighborhood to populate myself!
Of course anyone could take their favorite houses and move them in to all the empty lots, but if you're looking for a neighborhood that's already living and breathing this one won't start that way!
CUSTOMIZATION!
Yay that's my new theme.
Ok.
So TLDR:
A big world with tuns of space but generally empty of population, primed for housing/sim customization.

Store Content/EP Content/CC/Stuff Packs:CC: CC world textures but other than that, nope!
Ok, there is one. The CC food truck.. but they might have fixed that in a patch somewhere.. but until further notice the CC food truck.
Stuff Packs: I have high end loft stuff, but I doubt anything will weed its way anywhere not easily replaced/altered.
Store Content: Monte Vista is the closest thing to required, I'm sorry
I'm currently using the lighthouse and many of the rabbi tholes, as well as some (technically CC implemented) textures from MV.
I'm not clear on whether or not the textures are usable by everyone (or if it's morally sound?) but the rabbitholes and lighthouse can be replaced/removed for a MV clean version. The textures can be replaced as well but that might be tricky.
There is also the wishing well from Lucky Palms at the library.. it is removable.
The bistro from Lucky Palms is in use, removable. There's multiple places to eat in Drift already, so it won't be much of a bother save an empty lot :P
The tree of prosperity from Lunar Lakes has yet to find a place but will eventually get one and be removable.
The Al Freca(o?) Street Market is implemented and will also be removable, as well as the casino.
EPs:
All of them. I don't know that they're required per se? I think that depends on world objects? But I intend to make the rabbitholes/some of the community lots (and certainly space for all of them). Uni's on preorder and the world probably won't be finished before then so I intend to plop in any applicable Uni lots should there be any!

The over-ambitious romantic description:
Drift is a foliage-overrun island (doh, another!). It's lovely and ridiculously compiled, in a cake-and-eat-it-too fashion, containing naturally-improbable collections of ecosystems and plants that should-not-grow-on-islands. It's a beguiling and a touch eerie and grim. The town-city is comfortably wealthy and fashionable, but scenic and uncluttered. The residential sprawls are gorgeous and open, from grandiose and open to modest and secluded.
Sims from various walks all collect in the dreamy, plant-infested world.
Errr... or that's what I can tell myself anyway :P

All the EPs, none of the SPs.
ohh Im glad for the interest, right then more pictures on their way!
Edit: Edge; Thank you!
Okay not much of an Update but;
As it turns out I'm actually having loads of fun coming up with silly back stories/descriptions of the buildings and street names xD I still want to leave it open for people to place their own buildings but I might add in a few noteable premade sims pertaining to the town.. or maybe upload them separately and let people add them if they want..
getting ahead of myself.

Innsmouth Academy for "Boys"!
Two gold stars to anyone who gets where I stole the name from, and where they stole the name from in turn!
Innsmouth Academy serves as Drift's public education. It had, when first constructed, served as a pretigious prep school for boys known for it's mysterious allumni of otherworldly authors. However, the recent and unfortunate destruction of K-01 Public forced the Headmaster to open Innsmouth Academy's doors; it's very expensive, very old, very mysterious and very well polished doors.
Hehehe. It's actually two lots made up of the lot with the school 'connected' to it's track area/playground/'lunch table' area that is 'actually' a 'big park' zone.
The surrounding area isn't worked on as far as terrain sculpting and painting goes, nor the town aesthetic or even the school itself.. I just got a bit caught up >.>

The cliff area again, though a better view of what's going on. It's a residential spot with a couple biiig lots and a few more modest ones. I almost always use bigger more scenic lots for my families unless I'm deliberately going for a compact urban look, so there will probably be an excessive amount of the first >.>
The sidewalk little mini beach trail thing going on is pretty wonky, I dunno if I'll work with that little bend or make it more elegant later but yah.
Not much of an update but I said I'd post more pics so xD

Too much free time (or too much sim inclination?) I've been working on it a bunch hopefully more pics soon
Looking forward to the pics

Long break gah!
I'm just putting in absolute essentials cause I really wanna play it and I can do stuff like finish the firestation as I goooo.. I dont know if others are interested at all in that kinda setup but XD
I like worlds with lots of backstory, but they seem to be getting rarer . So if you do, I will download these noteable Sims. I know I've been planning a world with a really intricate story, but I can't landscape in CAW to save my life so it's likely it'll never be realised .
So I've got somethign of a dilemma; some extremely generous person gifted me lunar lakes and I caved and bought monte vista because I adore the style of architecture and what not so I'm not sure what to do with this world to that end. It was supposed to be sort of my dream world but I don't bet most people bought MV and hmmm not sure what to do with that..
I can live with making Lunar Lakes elements expendable for sure, though
part of the forest! moving on plonking plants down 8D

Uhh >.>
Text wall! I'm sorry I am nothing if not rambly and a quick typist.
Nothings done at all (a lot of the paints are blotted on, theyll blend nicer later I should hope!) but I realized I havent shown a vague overview of the main areas.
Off to the left of the picture I might turn into some sort of expanded farm-esque/spaced out land since the little units of housing and what not are fairly clusttered atm. The mountains will have a bit of a swampy feel around the main lake that's sort of blocked off from view here and then possibly a few mountainy-roughing it locations for houses or fishing spots or whatever up in the mountains.
This world makes absolutely no sense, the theme seems to be just mash everything together nonsensically so that all the Ep's have their fullish features and theres lots of lots for building and customization >.>
BUT I LIKE IT!
XD
I'm going to see what I can do to give the city area (it will be bigger later)some more cliff-ridge just so it sort of meshes with the rest of the edging. I don't want to have to nuke the little city and restart it if I don't have to >.>
Store Content:
So Monte Vista rabbitholes, a few world objects and textures are definitely being used.
The rabbitholes and world objects don't play major parts (the rabbitholes do, arguably, but one should be able to plop in their own fairly easily), so I could easily make MV free versions. If the game doesn't do that automatically when people who don't have MV download it.
You can use store textures if you don't have the store world, though, I believe? It's CC to get it into CAW anyway so..
well I'm not sure what the rules/morals behind that are so if anyone wants to enlighten me >.> Either way I could make replacements of the textures too but that would be a bit trickier.
The lucky palms bistro and wishing well are also in use; both easy to nuke out for store-free versions.
I'm going to stick the tree of prosperity from lunar lakes somewhere too-- it might end up all on it's own little sci-fi lot somewhere as I doubt I'll make a sci-fi area of the 'actual' world. This world doesn't make biological sense at all but I'm still trying to keep it within some.. vague.. realms of reality >.>
Finally, the al-fresco (sp?) street market and the casino.. I bought because I have no willpower.. and either the lots themselves will be placed somewhere or lots using their content will. I'm trying to keep a tab on wherever I use anything inthose lots so I can go back and delete them later since I totally don't expect people to have the same store-purchases me and I'm totally unclear on whether or not the game just deletes objects/lots for people that don't have them or doesn't let them download at all.
Here is there exert from EA itself that are instructions for all installs - updates, sps, and eps - right under step 1 it tells you:
"Before installing an Update for The Sims 3, an Expansion Pack, or a Stuff Pack, it is a good idea to run through the following checklist to ensure your game continues to work smoothly.
If you have any questions about the below steps, please visit the Technical Support forum on the official Sims 3 community found at this URL: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/forums/show/10.page
Step 1: Disable Custom Content
Custom Content is all Sims content that did not come from an official The Sims 3 Update, The Sims 3 Store, Expansion Pack, or Stuff Pack. Custom Content is created by 3rd Party Developers that are not regulated by Electronic Arts or The Sims 3 Development Team and may not work with new updates. Custom Content may cause the game to behave unexpectedly or not function entirely.
To disable your custom content, undo whatever you did to install this content to get your game back into an unmodified state."

In dreams - I LIVE!
In REALITY, I simply exist.....
Ok then, to make any MV free versions I'll have to find replacement textures~
edit: I did think it was a bit bizarre that the extracted versions of the store textures were so open for download!
