I've been trying this challenge for a little bit, but I ended up accidentally breaking so many rules in my first attempt that I decided to try again and keep closer to the rules this time.
I have a question about the Master Thief/Emperor of Evil. Is the Emperor of Evil the one that clears the Criminal Mastermind or does the Master Thief clear both of them? I just wasn't clear on the name of them. I know that Criminal Mastermind was what the top of TS2's criminal track and didn't know if it was just a miscarry to this version or not.
I really love this challenge, if only it had smaller data files!! It seems like it may be too much for my system to handle by the end.
I just started this challenge again on my new computer (the old AC is still on my old, and I'm going to finish that some day, as well). I have to say this: it is absolutely impossible to remember all the rules at the beginning of the challenge. I've probably broken a dozen so far without ever realizing it (I noticed some rules I had accidentally broken, and corrected my gameplay as soon as I noticed, but with a memory as bad as mine, I'm sure I haven't even caught all my mistakes yet).
I do have a question about the Comforting Children restriction: Does the elder sim in this...
Have a Good Friends relationship or better with any elder in the neighborhood before aging up to Teen.
...have to be the same as in this:
Paint a portrait of your sim's elder good friend before aging up to Young Adult.
The elder whose portrait I had planned on painting died before my teenaged sim could reach a high enough level to paint portraits. She does have another elder sim as a best friend now, but I cannot remember if the sims were good friends before the said sim aged to a teenager. Can I use the sim that is alive (and now a best friend of the teenager) to paint the portrait, or did I fail lifting Comforting Children already?
ETA: What happens if an uncontrollable elder sim passes out outside the house? Challenge failed? My elder sims refuse to go to bed autonomously, so they pass out all over the place, as I cannot tell them to go get some sleep and they won't do it on their own.
ETA2: Are the restrictions that require a sim to clear a career at mausoleum/as a specialist restricted by Military (because you cannot leave home to get the job) and also all those restrictions which say that you cannot freely choose your career (i.e. Journalism and Life of Crime - Master Thief). Do these restrictions also prevent a sim from lifting the restrictions which require them to take multiple jobs (e.g. Private Eye (alternate rules), Film - Director (alternate rules), Film - Actor (alternate rules) etc.)?
Candiepeaches and Ramble - please forgvie me for not getting back to this thread sooner!!

Emperor of Evil is the top of the Criminal Mastermind career track in Life of Crime. This clears having to sell stuff and then buy it back or otherwise paying protection to the mob.
Master Thief is the other track in Life of Crime. It clears the ristrictions involved in getting to take days off from work and quitting your job and such.

No, it dosn't have to be the same elder you befriended in childhood. But it DOES have to be a sim you befriended in childhood that turns elder before you turn young adult so you can paint their portrait AS an elder.
For example ... if your elder friend is the next door neighbor and the very day that you are to age to teen, this elder dies. You age up within minutes of him dying without having painted his portrait. BUT you have had a friends relationship with your mother and the day after you age to teen, SHE ages to elder. You can paint the portrait of your mother and you fulfill the letter of the category.
NOW, here is a way to help out with this bit of the challenge. As soon as you reach level 5 in painting, you can paint still life paintings. You can paint a still life with your elder sim friend in it and it qualifies for the portrait. Get your painting up as fast as you can as a child and get that painting done. You do NOT have to wait till you age to teen to paint it. You can do it as soon as you are able to paint still lifes.
What happens if an uncontrollable elder sim passes out outside the house? Challenge failed? My elder sims refuse to go to bed autonomously, so they pass out all over the place, as I cannot tell them to go get some sleep and they won't do it on their own.
No, you don't fail the challenge. Passing out is not the same as sleeping since the sim will awaken and get up as soon as they have an iota of energy and head inside to find a bed. There is a possibility your elder is stuck. Try having another sim call them over - and if they cannot comply, they are stuck. You can use the "resetsim" cheat to unstick your elder.
Are the restrictions that require a sim to clear a career at mausoleum/as a specialist restricted by Military (because you cannot leave home to get the job) and also all those restrictions which say that you cannot freely choose your career (i.e. Journalism and Life of Crime - Master Thief). Do these restrictions also prevent a sim from lifting the restrictions which require them to take multiple jobs (e.g. Private Eye (alternate rules), Film - Director (alternate rules), Film - Actor (alternate rules) etc.)?
Those alternate restrictions are allowed to "break the rules" so to speak, in order to clear them if they do not have restrictions listed IN the rule already. Rather they have exceptions written in that allow you to do what needs to be done without lifting Military or Master Thief or other category restrictions that would make it impossible to lift. You are STILL limited to choosing your job by random. You can do this with a 6 sided die (singular of dice :P). If you roll a 1-5, you have to take what you get in the paper. On a 6 you can take an alternate clear category if you like.
The Sims 3 Apocalypse Challenge has a new Wikispaces home with an updated look and fee. We are also working hard on updating the challenge for Supernatural!

Uh oh, so I only have 1/6 chance of them being able to clear that restriction? Doesn't sound too good an odds to me, lol. I'm trying to clear Education, but it seems that it will be almost impossible to do until I have cleared all the restrictions that limit career choices... Might take a while, then.
Anyway, I just wanted to check how the challenge rules have changed lately and ask if you've had the chance to buy the Seasons expansion pack yet. I'm wondering if I should be careful with some aspect of the pack while playing
Thank you and have a great autumn!
ETA: I see that Seasons rules have already been supplemented in the Wikia. Great!
1 - Business or Law Enforcement
2 - Music or Education
3 - Science, Culinary, or Fortune Teller
4 - Journalism or Medical
5 - Military or Criminal
6 - Political or Athletic
A 1 in 6 chance is actually a better chance than 1 in 14 :P
Yes, we have started to update for Seasons, though we are still updating for Showtime and Supernatural too :P I'm so far behind!!

Now that you put it that way... I have to agree, lol.
I actually managed to roll a 6 with one of my spouses and she's trying to clear Education now - I swear my eyes did this when I saw the dice:
So, yay for her!
I have a further question about rolling the dice, though: how early in a sim's life are we allowed to do this? Do we have to wait until they turn Young Adult (which is quite a long tome to wait...) or are we allowed to roll the dice when the sim is still a Teen, a Child or even younger? So far I've waited until the sim has become Young Adult just to be safe, but I thought I should ask your opinion, too
ETA: Is there any way to make it easier to adopt strays? I assume that the stray attracting gnomes are not allowed as per Architecture rules, and the strays that visit me come maybe once in four to five days and are usually different ones. They also don't stay for long enough for my sims to build any kind of relationship with them... Even the horses seem to run away from my sims even if they're on friendly terms with them and the said sim is an Equestrian. And befriending a horse has been a walk in the park compared to other animals. I'm truly baffled at how difficult lifting the Amazing Naturalist is. Any hints?
After we've cleared culinary, but not the amazing naturalist, can you make tofu based dishes? You can't technically grow tofu in the game so I wasn't sure if it counted as a vegetable (since it's technically soy beans) or not. Also can we make meat based dishes, like hot dogs since it doesn't use any vegetables or fish?
Also with the season being winter all the time, I am constantly having my children miss school for over a week because of snow days which means they can't get their grades up before they turn into a teen. Is that just a sucks for you sort of thing? I think it's quite unfair since it doesn't seem to happen just every once in a while, but it will happen consistently for 4 or 5 days in a row. If this happens, can we just disable snow but keep it winter?
Oh boy, these questions I have will never stop, lol.
Are we allowed to create a "greenhouse" by using walls (not the greenhouse from the EA store) if we're playing with Seasons to prevent plants from dying (when trying to lift The Amazing Naturalist)?
Here are the restrictions I found on walls (or rather, on foundations):
Houses MUST be built on a foundation/deck and/or be built on pillars, or be built as a basement Ala fall out bunker. (You may still have objects on the ground, but walls may not be placed on the ground level)
Houses must be supported by at least four stilts or foundation materials.
Thank you again!
ETA:
Also, is The Amazing Naturalist also restricted by Paranormal Soujourner or do those restrictions that are now listed under the Supernatural subcategory only affect the ones with the Supernatural expansion pack? The Amazing Naturalist doesn't list Paranormal Soujourner as a prerequisite.
The rules under Fortune Teller - Scam Artist say this:
Sims may not catch the deathfish. They cannot even fish where a deathfish might spawn.
I'm not sure if this affects me (as I do not own Supernatural), and I was planning on trying to lift The Amazing Naturalist next (hence all the questions), but now I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this...
I was looking at what went into the recipes my sim had, and we have always allowed burgers, veggie burgers, tofu dogs, hot dogs, pancakes, waffles and some other things that have a vegetable in it. Even PB&J's are allowed and they require "fruit".
PRIOR to Culinary being cleared, you may only cook on the grill Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and their tofu counterparts. you may also make PB&J's. Of course you may pull out quick meals without restriction of WHAT you pull out.
AFTER Culinary is cleared, your list of recipes you may prepare grows considerably.
Waffles
Pancakes
PB&J
Grilled Cheese
Hot Dogs
Mac & Cheese
Ratatouille
Goopy Carbonara
Cheese Steak
Hamburger
Shawarma
Spaghetti
Stu Surprise
Chili Con Carne and
Vegetarian Fish and Chips
Veggie Rolls
Cheese Tofu Steak
Vegetarian Chili
Tofu Dogs
Veggie Burger
Vegetarian Dim Sum
Duck Pet Food

The criterion for the following list is this ...
Recipes with Meat and Tofu are allowed in any quantity as the sole ingredient (the military has huge stores of dehydrated meat and tofu they ration out to the community)
Recipes with any ONE of Onions, Tomatoes, Ghost Chili or Fruit as the sole ingredient (the dehydrated versions of these things are stockpiled by the government and rationed)
Meat and Tofu accompanied by ONE of the following ... Onion, Tomato or Ghost Chili
Any Recipe with ONLY eggs or ONLY cheese or with a combination of ONLY eggs and cheese. (The military has, yet again, a surplus of powdered eggs, and bricks and bricks and bricks of that government cheese to ration out)
1st, you can only do this on day 1 for the founder, and thereafter only after Military has been cleared. If Military is not cleared, you have to use the paper, or the computer if science is cleared.
2nd. You must wait till your sim ages to young adult from teen before you roll and determine their job. They would not be able to look in the paper for an adult job as a teen, after all.
3rd. Paranormal and death fish vs. Amazing Naturalist - this is something I need to consider carefully so things are consistent. I need either to exempt the Naturalist from the Paranormal rule on catching death fish, or I need to make lifting paranormal restrictions a requirement of doing Naturalist. I have not yet made a decision on this. For the time being, assume the Naturalist is allowed, despite paranormal restrictions in place, to fish for death fish.
4th. Creating green houses - will be REQUIRED if you have seasons. There will be a list of allowed windows you can use and how things have to be set up to work right. These rules are being tested right now and figured out. If you do NOT own seasons, you do not have to create a green house - but you will want to shut your garden away behind a door that blocks the zombies (if you have Supernatural) from getting it. Politics will be helpful here.
Preparations are underway for a tournament starting in the Mid February to Early March time frame I will post in various places with details when it's all hammered out.
All weather types (snow, rain, fog, hail, etc) must remain enabled until Naturalist is cleared.
School - your child sim must do their homework and work hard at school on the days they are able to go in order to get the grade. If you have Education cleared, your adult sims may "tutor" (under friendly interactions) the child, which raises their grade.
There seems to be a glitch in the game when it comes to trying to add stray cats or dogs, or wild horses to the household. That is for some people, you get the option, but the animal never adds.
Currently, I am considering allowing neighborhood adoptions IF you have a friends or better relationship with the family who has the animals to adopt, and you need to be ready to do Naturalist at the time of the adoption.
Right now, I'm using my current game as somewhat of a beaker experiment to see how various rule changes are working out. So expect things to be set in place soon.
Rules posted for adding pets to the household. If International Super Spy is lifted and Military is lifted, you may adopt a pet from a neighborhood adoption.
I see there have been quite extensive changes in the rules to lift The Amazing Naturalist. I have been trying to lift the restriction as per the old rules, i.e. grow a perfect garden, present a perfect aquarium and collect 20 minerals, small animals etc (since I have pets). Should I shift to the new rules, continue with the old ones or do some sort of a mixture of the two?
I spent a lot of time raising gardening and fishing to 10 and collecting animals and collectibles, and I'm afraid there is no way I'll be able to complete the requirements of employment before my sim turns elder (he only has 14 days left of adulthood)... Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do?
Also, if (or when) my sim fails to lift the Amazing Naturalist, how do I go about trying again? Do I need to start over (that is, destroy the garden and get rid of my animals [who have been helping me find collectibles] and fish bowls) or can I somehow utilize the things my current sim has already found, e.g. seeds and produce?
The way the new rules work - you top science, then you top the mausoleum clerk job then you grow a perfect garden and present a perfect aquarium - no longer any restriction on fishing or gardening with the Naturalist sim - they can start right in from childhood fishing and at teen with gardening. They just have to top science and mausoleum before they die.
As for clearing your current game's AN - how close are you to it with the old rules? If you are very close and don't think you have time for the new rules, then by all means finish the old rules.
Things are changing in the rules to get them ready for the tourney - to make them more internally consistent.
The collection challenges will be moved to a new class of category called Prestige. They won't CLEAR anything or lift any restrictions, but they will be worth a LOT of points for scoring, and bragging rights for the players that complete them within the time frame of their challenge
Hello there! I am doing an apoc story, but I've made up my own rules, and I wanted to give your wiki credit for inspiration. I'm using Viper Valley, but I couldn't find the link to it on the new wiki page. I found Rattlesnake Ridge, but I'm using VV, the one with your townies, and if you still have it for upload could I link to it? If you don't have it still uploaded I'll just give you credit. Both worlds are fabulous, thanks so much for your hard work on them and your challenge rules.
We are getting the rules straightened up for Into The Future. Wow, I can't believe we have reached the final expansion of The Sims 3!!
The goal right now is to get all the rules tightened up for ALL expansions, make sure there aren't any contradictions between categories, and set things up for the tournament that will be held in the spring.
I want to thank everyone for making TS3AC the success it has been The challenge would not be the same without all the great discussions and ideas the players have brought up!
Hi, i am really hoping that i am posting this question on the right forum. I have started the apocalypse challenge on Viper Valley, and I am having trouble locating the political career. Can anyone please tell me where this is? Thank you for your time, and I am sorry if this is posted on the wrong forum.

God Bless,
