I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but why don't Mac users just install Windows through bootcamp? I play on a mid 2011 15" Macbook Pro, with 3 partions with OSX Lion, Snow Leopard, and Windows 7. I find that The Sims runs better in Snow Leopard, and I use Windows 7 to run CAW and all the other little programs to mod the game.

Can I just download Windows 7 from the App Store or do I need to make a trip downtown to buy windows.
Second: I'm NOT paying $100 just for some stupid PC simulator on my mac to just download CAW. It's unfair that PC users can get it for free. THAT'S WHY NOBODY INSTALLS BOOT CAMP FOR THIS.
Should I all ruin your party and tell you the reason why CAW is not for MAC is because the program is not compatible. the reason why they didn't make it because the PC coding used and not convertible to MAC coding. therefor, they can't do it. Only way is to make a whole new CAW but then people will want the "new" CAW and Vise Versa
unfortunately CAW will not be released for macs, sorry. It's an internal development tool that we use to create the game, and it was made available "as is" for the community to experiment and create with.
I would really love to sign the petition but seeing as though I have come across this over a year later I am not completely sure whether the target number of signatures has been reached and if the petition is still going. In all hope I would really love it if EA would produce Create-A-World for Mac.
EDIT: Please be sure to look at update #6, as well as #8; we still have much to do.
Okay, I'm honestly not sure whether I should put this in the "Mac Discussions" or "Ideas & Feedback" forum, so if a SimGuru wants to move it, I completely understand; I'm putting this in the Mac forum for now though because I believe Mac users will actually see it here.
I have admittedly been waiting for the "Create-A-World" tool since The Sims 3 was announced, so imagine how happily surprised I was when I found out it would be released next month. Now imagine how disappointed I am after I read that it'd be PC-only. I get it, EA develops TS3 through Windows, but they manage to run the game (albeit through Cider) on the Mac, so there is no excuse for EA not to release the "Create-A-World" tool for Mac users. I don't mind if CAW is released for the PC first and then released for the Mac, what I do mind is that as it stands, at least from what EA is implying, is that we won't have access to the Create-A-World tool at all, ever, period, end of sentence. EA said that they intend to improve the tool based on user-feedback. Well EA, I'd like to offer some constructive user-feedback right now: Please release a Mac version, even if it's wrapped in Cider as TS3 itself is, of the "Create-A-World -- BETA" tool. I realize that this is a "beta" tool, and I realize it will likely be buggy at first. I realize that the game is developed under Windows. However, those of us who play TS3 on the Mac are no different than your Windows customers, and we would like the ability to create our own worlds for use within the game as well. EA, please release the CAW tool for the Mac as well; thank you.
UPDATE: We now have over 100 signatures everyone! Thank you for your continued support; as usual, the most recent signatures can be found in my most recent post, but the first 100 will now reside in the first post in this thread.
UPDATE #2: We now have over 200 signatures; keep them coming everyone, and thank you again for your continued support. As always, the most recent signatures can be found in my most recent post.
UPDATE #3: We now have over 300 signatures; once again, please keep them coming everyone, and as always, thank you for your continued support. The most recent signatures can be found in my most recent post as usual.
UPDATE #4: Please see Karlieh's post on page 28 in the following link: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/405/133489.page Karlieh has attempted to create an *.app wrapper for CAW--BETA for the Mac but has not been successful yet. If you think that you can create the wrapper yourself, or that you can help her and/or offer her advice, I'd appreciate it. Remember, if you do get a wrapper to work, you need to remove the programs from it (CAW--BETA and TS3) in order to legally distribute it. I'd like to thank Karlieh for her continued efforts to create a wrapper that we can put CAW--BETA into to use with our Macs. On a side-note, we've now passed 350 signatures.
UPDATE #5: We now have over 400 signatures everyone, thank you for your continued support. Rest assured that although I might not post here often, I do read this thread all the time, and I'm not going to shut up about this until we get CAW! EA has included some basic CAW-esque functionality with WA in the "edit town" mode from what I understand, but those features do not include the ability to create one's own town from scratch. The day we have full CAW functionality I will gladly let this thread die. Apparently "Ambitions" has caused problems for PC users with CAW as well, so now seems like a great time to try to persuade EA that they should release a functional Mac version when they patch the PC version for compatibility with the Ambitions EP. Keep the signatures coming everyone, we still need them, thank you all for your ongoing support.
UPDATE #6: Okay, major thanks to Nienkenina for suggesting the addition of a letter-writing campaign, and to Michabean for finding the address to which the letters can be sent. Another way to try and persuade EA to release CAW for the Mac, and that may admittedly be more effective than a forum petition, is a letter-writing campaign. I am now asking everyone who has signed this petition, and who is able to, to join the letter-writing campaign for Create-A-World--BETA on the Mac. Letters should be sent to the following address:
Electronic Arts. Inc.
209 Redwood Shores Parkway
Redwood City CA, 94065
U.S.A.
Tips for letter writing:
All letters should be typed, double (or 1.5) spaced, and written using a legible font. 12pt Times New Roman (Times under Mac OS X,) is considered a standard size for type-written letters. If you don't want to use 12pt Times New Roman, 10pt Arial is a suitable alternative, and will take up the same general amount of space on a page. It should go without saying, but those of us in the US won't have to add the country to the last line of the above address.
Formatting basics: Be sure to add a return address to the top of the letter. Keep your letter to a single typed page; after your ending salutation (e.g. sincerely,) add three blank spaces, then type your name. Print your letter and sign it in ink where you left the three blank spaces.
Letter writing basics: BE POLITE! I cannot stress this enough; we are asking EA to release CAW--BETA for us, so the least that we can do in return is be polite. Be professional. Spell the word "you" instead of hitting the letter "U;" use proper grammar, and use spell check. Use black text and print your letter on white paper. Keep your letter to the point: Your letter shouldn't be more than a page, but it also shouldn't be one sentence long. Explain that you're a Mac user who doesn't have a copy of Windows, and that you'd like EA to release CAW for the Mac. Avoid straying off topic and mentioning other aspects of TS3, such as the upcoming Create-A-Pattern tool and the Ambitions EP. (You can of course use them as examples to explain why CAW should be WIN/MAC rather than WIN PC-Only.) Don't nag EA; if you're going to send multiple letters, wait at least seven (7) days before you send a second letter. Regardless of how many letters you send, you should thank EA for their time. Try to keep your letter personal; businesses are more likely to look at letters that have a personal touch to them, and consider the suggestions in them than they are to look at something that looks like a form letter. Remember, your letter is far more helpful than your petition signature, because companies generally give letters from consumers more "weight" than they give to petition signatures, especially online petition signatures. Furthermore, BE POLITE! This is so important that I'll say it again; you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Also, I shouldn't have to say this, but avoid threats, insults, and the like; it won't help our cause, and could be illegal; keep things civil and the letter-writing campaign could really help us.
Finally, all letters should be sent via "snail mail" using the good ol' fashioned United States Postal Service, or your countries equivalent. If you don't have stamps, you can purchase them directly from the post office when you mail your letter, or you can offer to buy one off of a friend. If you don't have a printer, take your letter to your local library or copy center and ask them to print it for you; they'll charge a small fee, but you'll be able to print your letter without having to purchase a printer. You could also ask a friend with a printer if you could print your letter on their computer if you don't have a printer of your own. With that said, let's get the letter writing aspect of this campaign started.
UPDATE #7: This thread was relocated to the Create-A-World forum from the Mac Discussions forum on June 6, 2010. If nothing else, it means that someone, somewhere in EA, has apparently seen the thread, even if they haven't responded to it. I can only hope that this is a sign of good things to come.
UPDATE #8: This was originally going to be about how we'd surpassed our initial goal of 500 signatures, but as I went through the first 500 signatures to make sure they were all unique, I came upon a small problem: A few people had created posts to "sign" the petition multiple times; these were different posts that started with the word "signed." Please, if you're unsure if you've signed, search the signatures; use your browser's "find" feature on this page, or the page with the current 100 signatures to do so. Your assistance and cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. I thought that we had 503 signatures, but after purging the duplicates, we only have 497; Geminiagre was originally 500 before the duplicates were caught; she's now #494, with the three people who signed after her bringing us up to 497. We're three signatures away from 500 folks; it should be easy for three more people to sign this. Also, if you see anymore duplicate signatures, please tell me! I try to catch and remove them all, (the original signature remains intact,) and accidents do happen, but the sooner they're corrected the better. We had six duplicate signatures in various parts of the petition, so if your signature number has "shifted" from the removal of a duplicate signature, don't worry, you're name is still there, it's just been given a different number. Again, thank you all for your time.
UPDATE #9:We've now reached our first goal of 500 signatures, and are on our way to our second goal of 1,000 signatures; keep them coming everyone. I want to thank the first 499 people who joined me in signing this, as well as those who have pushed us toward our next goal. I also want to thank both the Mac users who are understandably signing this, and the Windows users who are signing purely on principal; again, your support for CAW on the Mac has not gone unnoticed. The 500th person to sign the petition was Keleya, and NLChapman will put us over the 500 mark. Keep the signatures coming everyone; we still need them, and thank you for your continued support.
UPDATE #10: As of August 9, 2011 we are at 708 signatures and growing. Signatures 1–700 are on the main page, while signatures 701 and onward are in my most recent post as always.
I'm not to sure how to sign this? I dunno. I feel stupid, but I don't care. I want Create a World for Mac! Can anyone who writes updates put my name down or whatever? Thanks!
I don't own a Mac (didn't realise they were still popular till I started playing Sims3) but I feel for those who don't have access to CAW as it is a huge part of my gaming experience with Sims 3.
I mostly play on the worlds I create.
i wanna sign the petition but don't know how  this does really suck, i would literally be the happiest person ever if we got create a world for mac thats what i love most about sims is creating stuff
but yeah; EA.. take a second away from making the new expansion packs to making create a world for all your mac users who youre disappointing
