Great Expectations is a fabulous book. Don't blame your teachers either people. How could the teachers possibly ruin the book for you if you go home and read it like you are supposed to, instead of just depending on class lectures.

When you haveta read the book, while taking note of every little moral and every little detail along the way, it deprives the book of enjoyment and entertainment.

Maybe this is just me, but I like reading books for fun because I don't have to remember the details. I enjoy it for what it is and what it is meant to be: entertainment.

It is not the teacher that ruins the book, per-say, but the assignments that go along with the book. Some teachers are skilled enough to make the book fun to read while having you remember the details.

To the OP. Here's why I would not download it. The house looks too big, and those are difficult for me to play. I prefer mini mansions, nice small houses but decorated to the edge.

Also it is not designed like a dollhouse. I prefer all houses I play to have clear views into all rooms without having to constantly rotate the camera to not have the view blocked by things. I also insist that I am not treated to the views of backsides of kitchen cabinets, the backsides of TV's, or the bathroom fixtures attached to walls that cut down.

As you can see, any house I download means that I will have to completely redesign the inside, so it must have a very compelling and visually appealing outside design for it to be worth it.

So anyway, that's my attempt at constructive criticism.
That's the kind of house I like! I'd been trying to think how to describe it, and "Dollhouse Design" is perfect. Here's hoping the description catches, and someday I can search for "Dollhouse Design."

Seen this :)? By my friend SaffronCat5 http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=605252

To the OP :) Try visiting this thread http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/59754.page it explains a lot and may help you.
Might I suggest before you post a new build you ask opinions in CC then you can get some helpful feedback on the build :). I can only re-iterate what most people have said here. Mansions are hard to play on the game so there isn't huge demand for them. Play it and you will understand when you sim has to walk a mile to get a snack etc.
The covershot explained on the Showcase thread page 1 will help 'sell' your house. Just because it took you a lot of time and effort doesn't mean it should be automatically downloaded :). It doesn't work like that. Don't give up, keep trying and grab all the help people re offering. I can only say if you take up Bennjoons (*waves at Benny!*) GENEROUS offer you will be in great hands.

Good luck and keep building :)
Also agree with others that respect is earned not demanded - sorry .

Who said anything about "depending on class lectures"? I sure didnt.

I said it was "a sleep-inducing nightmare of a novel", and I stand by my opinion.
IMHO it is possibly the worst piece of boring garbage I ever have had the misfortune of having to read.

All I can say then, is apparently you don't have much of an appreciation for fine literature, and that is MY opinion.

You should try "The Sound and the Fury" by Faulkner. I'm sure you'd like that much better.

As to my reading habits, we prefer different authors.
I tend towards Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Sholokhov, Remarque, and Hemmingway.

You like Dickens, so be it; I dont.

You might love your mansion but that doesn't mean everybody else will. I've uploaded 3 lots which I think are absolutely amazing but only had 50 or so downloads, whereas the recoloured objects I've uploaded are doing much better. Who would have thought that a wooden sink unit could prove to be so popular! :-o

The landscaping could use more work. It looks a bit barren towards the side and the back. That tiny pond you have sitting the front looks a bit off, as well.

I appreciate that you want respect for your work, and the house obviously took a lot of effort but, if the truth be told I don't think it's very nice.
I had a look at it, and it isn't particularly pretty, well laid out or anything like the sort of mansion I would like to see in my game.
It may be that the reason no-one downloaded it is that they feel the same.
    Sorry about that.

I would have to agree nagaqueen13. It seems that the OP has an attitude because no one has downloaded their lot. It almost feels like he/she expects people to download it just because he/she thinks it's great. Not everyone is going to like the designs or characters you create - it's just a matter of preference or personal aesthetic tastes.

I read books on my own all the time. I usually finish the books we have to read long before everybody else because the teachers do ruin it. There was a couple of months when I couldn't stand To Kill A Mockingbird, though it's one of my favorite books(Still is). The teacher just completely dissected it. If I hadn't read it before, then I would hate it like everybody else.

Oh, and I don't usually pay much attention to the class lectures unless I like the teacher, or I'm called on. Only occasionally does an interesting subject come up. Even then, there are only ever 1 or 2 people in the class willing to discuss it

And Zolt65, I dread that book. I tried reading it once before but got bored halfway through. The thought of reading it for school is frightening.

Sorry for being so off topic

I've only downloaded 2-3 lots for Sim3 because I build my own but 3 things turned me off from your house before I looked at the floorplans. 1) The Roof. Don't rely on auto-roof, it stinks. Roofs are a hassle but doing your own makes your houses look SOOOOO much better IMO 2) The Landscaping. I'm big on landscaping the your lot just feel incomplete and awkward to me. 3) The placement of a few outdoor things like the pond and the fountain - they just seem like they were shoved in where they fit and look odd to me.

Not sure if anyone said this, cause I don't download much, so this thread doesn't really apply to me.

..you have no advertisement. You expect people to randomly stumble upon your page? I know I don't go through threads clicking on everyone's profile that posts. How am I supposed to know you made a mansion?

That's about all I wanted to point out.

its so irritating, loads of people get 100s of downloads.

Because other members make quality things and don't complain when people don't download it. Honestly, your mansion isn't all that special. It looks like a long house with unnecessarily large rooms. I mean, who needs a bathroom the size of Central Park?
Yes, I am the one obsessed with Michael Myers.

Maybe it's because a lot of people are like me and don't download many houses from the exchange. Not to mention I don't really use bigger houses when playing.

But I'm sure if you keep it in your studio the downloads will begin to add up. It just takes a while.

It isn't about "not caring". As I already tried to explain, it's about NOTICING.
You need to present your stuff in a way that appeals to other people.
It's a principle of evolution (Yeah, now you ask yourself what that crazy woman is talking about...), think about it: flowers developed colours and a scent to be more attractive to bees. It worked, since there aren't flowers around who don't use at least one of those methods. The ones that didn't, died out because they weren't able to reproduce themselves because the bees prefered the other ones.
Most animals have special appearance, scent, behaviour or whatever to attract females to mate with them. That's why male peacocks for example look like they do.
I could bring up a hundred examples of it and more. It's a base principle of nature. And it is the same for stupid pixel houses in a computer game. People just tick like that, if they're aware of it or not.

Let me give you another example. I had a japanese lot on top of a waterfall... the random covershot the system gave me, showed the house from the worst side possible which didn't show anything of the specialty. It got downloaded 170 times in a week. I then reuploaded the lot with a custom covershot, and it's my most downloaded lot up-to-date with more than 2300 downloads. The lot and the description were exactly the same, Just the covershot was different. It had more than 1k downloads in 24hours.

And as a lot of people already said: it's not only the house that counts. It's the whole package...

Hehe... you have NO idea what you can do with an oversized bathroom...

    bathfin3.jpg
    bathfin1.jpg

One bathroom, almost the complete lowest floor, and no odd empty corners whatsoever...
