I copied This about 'FIREPLACES' some time ago and used it at last yesterday on a Ranch I am making for a contest.
FirePlaces
Did you know that the fireplace build mode object comes in several parts? And that these parts can actually be separated? To learn how, read on!
The fireplace object consists of the following parts:
1 - The fireplace itself, where Sims can light the actual fire
2 - The chimney base, the area immediately behind the fireplace
3 - The chimney stack, the pipe-like part sitting atop the chimney base
4 - The chimney exhaust, the topmost part where the smoke is expelled
While in edit mode on a lot space, do the following:
1 - Go into Build mode and place a fireplace object
2 - Open the debug/cheat console window by pressing SHIFT + CTRL + C
3 - Type in the command "moveobjects on" without quotation marks
4 - Move the mouse pointer onto the chimney exhaust and click on it to select it
5 - Move the mouse pointer and watch the segment separate
6 - Press DELETE to delete the chimney exhaust or click elsewher on the lot to put it down
7 - Repeat steps 4 to 6 for the chimney stack segments
To separate the chimney base from the fireplace, do the following:
1 - Remove all chimney segments using the moethods described above
2 - Click on the chimney base exhaust hole and the chimney base is selected
3 - Press DELETE to delete the chimney base or click elsewher on the lot to put it down (if the UI glitches while deleting the chimney base, simply enter Buy mode and then go back into Build mode again)
By using the moveobjects command you can separate the chimney parts from each other and do the following:
1 - Remove the chimney entirely yet leave a fully functioning fireplace inside, useful if space constraints don't allow for a chimney piece to go all the way through the floors of a building. Who says a chimney must go straight up to the roof?
2 - Have TWO fireplaces back-to-back. Simply have one fireplace with all the parts placed on one side of a wall, and then place a second fireplace (without any chimney parts) behind the first fireplace. Note that the chimney will only exhaust smoke from the fireplace it is naturally anchored to, but this is purely cosmetic. It is also possible to have two fireplaces without chimney parts back-to-back.
3 - Make chimneys shorter by removing segments. This is useful if you don't want a chimney sticking too far out of the roof. As for longer chimneys beyond the six floor limit, it is not possible at this time since the chimney segments cannot be made to stack each other.
4 - Use chimney segments as additional architectural build mode objects. And yes, the chimney segments can be cloned by holding SHIFT while clicking. The rounded pipe chimney segments could be used as props for a sort of boiler or furnace room for example.
When you are building drop the walls down to half now and then to see how items/furniture/bathroom looks as this is how most people play and seeing the toilet and sims using it does not look nice for example right next to the living room couch!
Also have the walls up and go around the outside to see what can be seen in the windows for example a Bookcase blocking the views out.
Some builds have a pillar/s made of 4 walls and when the walls are down they are like squares on the ground or carpet, so be sure you want them where they are. The game has plenty of little quirks to look out for when building.
I use Moo to put lights under things after getting my sim to click on each, turn up the brightness and colour!
Party machines I prefer to use For Creepy Fog rather than the generators in buydebug as you have control over them.
If you look at my 'Halloween Funhouse' http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/270/415172.page Also my Blog Pics you may see...
The yukky piles in the corners are Sand from buydebug and coloured! then with Moo put a round flat, coloured red outdoor light under it, I had so much Fun finding things to use/colour, even the Skele bits on the floor around them you can colour!
Its really nice/handy if you write a good Description of the Building eg the rooms included and any special features like a Hot Tub or that it has extra rooms in a basement.
Do also include your name so simmers know who made it, in case they want to check your Studio in future.
Hi I just found I had 6 lovely EA Gifts from the Memories, I did not know they were in my Purchase History until I found out in the Forums!! I looked as I have over 100 now, just as well I found out or they would just be sitting there and not in my game. Thanks EA
Iread this earlier and it may be useful..I have not done this myself Btw
you can devalue the home to make it meet the budget requirements. In order to do this you move a sim into the home and have them live there for a while until the cost is appropriate and then you evict the sim. You'd have to reupload the house with the new cost but that would make you eligible to win. If you use the "testingcheatsenabled true" cheat and then click the mailbox and select "Make needs static" you can then fast forward through a week of sim days which generally brings your house near its lowest possible value.
Every time you go on the Exchange, you see all of these headshots and professional looking photos of the Sims and homes and lots and you wonder how you can do that. Well here's a link that you can go to where you can quickly download an application to help you do that:
Sims 3 Upload Picture Changer Instructions:
-Have the sim you want to change the pic of in the launcher.
-Get your picture and put it somewhere easy to find (make sure it is .png format)
-Open the program, go to uploads and select your sim.
-When it comes up, click 'replace image' and select the picture you want.
-Click save.
-Upload your sim like normal. (Don't worry if it doesn't show the pic in the launcher, it will when you upload it.)
Btw I have not tried this yet, but it said on her forum it can be copied and pasted for others to use.
Just read through your thread. Some great tips I'll post some now When trying to add detail to the exterior of the house, use shelves (from Generations) under a window to create a sill. This looks great on older styled homes. Furthermore, if you want your windows to look really nice, think about using arches around a window to create a different shape or more detailed window frame. I particularly like to use a rectangular arch (one from Ambitions) over the arched window (from the base game) to create a tall rectangular window. This looks great with two columns to the each side of the window too. Another tip. When creating staircases, think about all of the different designs. For example, it is possible to use a staircase with a landing using ConstrainFloorElevation False. Some of my mansions and manors use this staircase in the foyer. In fact, I'm going to be uploading a lot soon using this staircase. Another tip that I like to use is to create cornicing using square arches (particularly the one from Ambitions). The only problem with this is that you have to use MoveObjects On once you've come back to the lot if you quit the game because the arches create an entryway into the next room. The house I will be uploading also uses this. Use several lights to create one elaborate light. Use wall ornaments to create elaborate wall lights. Once I think of more, I'll post

FIELD TRIPS
Children & Teens can now attend school field trips. On average there is one field trip a week (sometimes more) where your kids will explore different places around town. Parents will have to agree and sign a permission slip to allow their children to go. (pop up box notification) If you have more than one child/teen in the household, they may all be attending the same field trip on the same day. Children and Teens will be excused from any after school activities that interfere with the field trips.
While Children and Teens are on Field Trips you will see small notifications at the top of your screen letting your know what is going on. Sometime your teens may be a bit rebellious and decide to stand up in the bus, and be told by their teacher to sit down. They may also visit the local Bistro and pick up a knife, which the teacher will tell them to put down. Depending on your kids, they may not like all their field trips. After the field trip, a notification will let you know if your kids did enjoy the time they spent.
When your kids go on field trips, they may even return with some goodies! A few examples of these special goodies are The Molecular Model from a field trip to the Science Lab, or a Dressing Room Mirror from a field trip to the theater. There are many more goodies to be collected from other field trip locations around town.

I just read that if you use the cheat
testingcheatsenabled true/false and 'shift click' on a sim you can...Edit that Sim in CAS (create a Sim), Modify Traits, Trigger Age Transition or change 'Fave Music'.
All useful for the ingame Sims you dont like their Traits or looks.
http://colorschemedesigner.com/ not really a tip or a hint, but A simmer on this forum (i forgot who you are sorry!) linked this too me. It's a fantastic site for making color schemes in your home. It also gives the hexidecimal of colors.
Thank you so much for posting this where do you find the hexidecimal number?
hello all heres one for you lot that want to create a grave yard or haunted house
if you use the buydebug grave stones and then click ctrl-shift on them you can then activate them for ghosts and set the type of death, the name of the ghost and so on.
