Did we loose the constructive criticism on the Movie Studio judging? I just saw that a winner was picked but I would like to know what Tristarin had to say about the entries for Intermediate if that is possible.

    Summer Designer Showdown: Beginner

I know these results have been a long time coming, and you all might have even forgotten what you created for this challenge!! I am helping out by judging this challenge and once again, you all did a wonderful job and made MY job very difficult! As you will see by how many winners I chose, it was a tough decision to make. I recommend reading the comments I left for others, as the tips might help you as you build in the future. Congrats to all for a wonderful job!

    Constructive Criticism?:yes

I really liked your landscaping and exterior! The flower wall coverings on the outside were great (although when used in one of the bedrooms, it was a bit overpowering). The greenhouse was also a great addition, and fitting with the orchid inspiration. I thought your sitting room downstairs and the neutral/Asian bathroom upstairs were also very nicely done. Your upstairs overall felt a little disjointed, like each room belonged in a different house. You also might have added something to the middle of the kitchen-it felt a little empty. (Also…unless I missed something, did you only have 3 bedrooms, instead of 4?)

    Constructive Criticism?: Sure

When I began looking at your pics, I said “this is definitely a globe house!!” There was a good uniformity to your house. But…did you have a globe in the house somewhere? I didn’t find one in the pics. :) I liked that you put your house in the desert, that was a nice change of pace, and again, fit with your theme. Your patio was my favorite part of the house. Inside, there were some areas with too many textures/patterns.

    Constructive Criticism?: I guess

I liked your exterior and landscaping here! The outside wall coverings were great. For the landscaping, try changing the terrain to kick it up a notch. You have a really nice flow inside. The rooms all feel connected and united. I liked your sitting area by the fireplace, but some other areas in the house felt a little sparse (I think your use of décor was what I liked best about that sitting area!). You did a nice job using patterns, but don’t forget to use CAS…you can take your interiors to the next level by changing colors around. (Did you have an extra bathroom in your house?)

Constructive Criticism?: Yes...hope I can handle it :o)

Don’t worry, I am not going to be too harsh (I hope!) :) You had a great mix of traditional and modern in your house that made it really cool. The first pics you have with the wingback chairs and the zebra print rug are an example of that. You have a good uniform look throughout the house. I also liked your window choices…in some areas, they were big and bright, and in other areas they were small and cozy. Couple of things to work on…some areas were a little sparse and could use some décor (like the upstairs hall). There was also a cinder block wall downstairs that looked a little industrial.

    Constructive Criticism?: yes, most definitely

I like your exterior colors and windows of your house! The outdoor seating area was also a nice addition. Your house was another one with good flow and uniformity. However, there was almost too much uniformity, in that you used the same furniture and lighting in most of the rooms. Try mixing things up and go for the look you want by using patterns instead of just the furniture choices. Your terrace was excellent! I’d definitely want to hang out there!

    Constructive Criticism?: yes

This is a good start to interior design! It’s great that you aren’t afraid of using patterns, but you could also use CAS to take it to the next step. You have a lot of empty space in your house, so keep working on your layouts and using the décor section of Buy Mode to fill up that space!

    Constructive Criticism?: Please.

I really liked your interiors in this house! You have a good grasp of décor, and your house looks very natural and lived-in. The dark wood tones look very luxurious. Your exteriors could use a little more work. Try either placing your plants more haphazardly (hold down the alt key to have more freedom in placement), or add more plants if you like to keep things planted in lines.

    Constructive Criticism?: yes please!

I liked your furniture choices and layouts a lot! Your front entry was also great…very realistic! :) I thought your nursery was nicely done, too. The color scheme was nice, but didn’t necessarily say “orchid” to me (the orange, purple, and green reminded me more of Mardi Gras). I saw you ran out of time on the exterior, and it showed…but, life happens!

    Constructive Criticism?: Yes

Your exterior and landscaping are fabulous! You had nice additions as far as building things, and your fountain was really cool! I liked that you kept particular Sims in mind when creating your house…I think it helps to make the house more realistic. The flooring in the living room was nicely done, and the use of columns was great and helped add some depth to the house. I thought, though, that you had a little too much décor going on in some rooms, and the green you used in the dining room was a little bright for my tastes.

Another house with a good, clear theme to it! Your exterior was very well-done, from the landscaping to the wall coverings, patio, pool, patio….great job! Inside, I liked your study a lot. Your kitchen layout was also good. You had some bold color choices and combinations going on, however, in some of the rooms (like the blue/yellow bathroom and bedroom with the large wave pattern on the wall), which didn’t quite work for me.

Constructive Criticism?: Yes, of course its my first entry!

Nice job on your first entry! Your exterior had a great old-world European look to it. Your carport and gazebo were excellent! The downstairs of your home was lovely and elegant. You had good layout and use of space in your rooms, but the patterns and colors sometimes seemed to clash. The hieroglyphic walls upstairs were a bit overpowering. Maybe use a pattern like that as an accent wall, instead of everywhere. Also, try to get all the pics taken without the grids (either take in-game or while in terrain-paint mode).

Little Bit Country/Little Bit Rock-n-Roll: Beginner

Not as many entries here as in the summer designer showdown, but still not an easy judging to complete! It was great to see the variety of houses you all created. Budget builds are difficult, and I definitely took that into account in my judging. I don’t expect to see as much extra “stuff”, but it is important to make good use of a small build!

    Constructive Criticism?: sure :o)

WOW! What a story! In addition to the great story, you did a great job with this build. I love the statue on the porch, and the big windows (I am a sucker for those full-length windows!). It’s also really smart how you had the windows face the city and country. Nice idea :) Your dining room chairs almost look elegant (hard to do with plastic folding chairs!). Your sink placement in the bathroom looked a little awkward, like they’d be hard to get to. You also might have used some patterns on the walls to take the place of art (since I know art is harder to use in a budget build).

Constructive Criticism?: Always welcome and needed

You have a very nice layout to your house. I like how you used the cow print on the lower half of the walls…it adds a country touch without being overpowering. You have some nice furniture throughout (maybe some CC helped you with the budget? ;) ) In some areas, there were a few too many patterns used together (the girl’s bedroom, and the kitchen walls, for instance). The overall feel of the house is more country than modern. Maybe fewer wood patterns could have made it feel more modern?

    Constructive Criticism?: yes, please

You have nice outdoor living areas in your build…great idea for a budget build! The music note walls in the living room are very fun! You have a lot of empty space throughout the main living area. With a budget build, you can build a little smaller so the amount of furnishings and décor fit with the size of the house.

I like all your outdoor spaces here, too. Very nicely done. Your main living area feels a little awkward to me. I’m not sure if it was the dim pictures, but I couldn’t get a good sense of what the home would feel like to be in. Also, I’m not a huge fan of lots of the cinder-block look inside, I try to limit it to one wall, or a wall that is going to be mostly covered up with furnishings.

This house has great curb appeal! You have a great layout inside, and good use of small spaces. You made good use of stone as an accent wall (on your “columns”, which were also very cool). I also like that you used basic flooring to create “area rugs”.

There were very few pictures posted, making this hard to judge, but it looks like a cute cabin! I like that you had an attic area…looks like a nice place for them to practice their music.

    Results #70- 71 • Halloween Showcase!: Beginner-Intermediate

Both my entrants have vivid imaginations! Talk about creepy! I made sure I did my judging in the bright light of day. You also made it very hard to pick a winner because you were both so good.

    First Place (Lot)

    LewisJ12
    Link to Media: http://www.thesims3.com/contentDetail.html?contentId=268247
Comments: Lot: Superb architecture of the mansion. It works well as both a modern house and as the haunted mansion. The layout flows well. The interiors, though spare, are very stately. The landscaping, both as modern and haunted are well conceived. I especially like the look of the lot after the gargoyles have taken over! Story: Congratulation on being featured! It is well deserved. The story is clever and well illustrated with screenshots. I loved the tower with the statues.
Suggestions: The house felt a bit under decorated. A few more décor items might have added to its stateliness. I was also unclear whether your interior shots were meant to be the house before or after the gargoyles took over. The interior shots did not look as dirty or gruesome as they might have, if that was your intention.

    Optional Challenge winner (Story)

    Screenshot-187.jpg

    CaramelMomo18
    Link to media: http://www.afantasycometrue.blogspot.com
Comments: Lot: Nice contrast between the first and second floors. The first floor is wonderfully sterile, which makes one feel slightly uneasy. The second is full of grisly details! I don’t know where you got all that blood, but you used it well. I also loved the graveyard in the front yard. Story: Your story is very inventive and nicely paced. The characters are creepy—especially that Kevin. He deserved what he got! Your screenshots are excellent and used well throughout the story. It really brought it alive—or should that be “dead”? Well done.
Suggestions: Although I liked the sterile look of the manor before Allison wakes up, it could have used a few more décor items. The first floor seems a bit under furnished.

    Congratulations! Well deserved!

Forgive me for asking - hope it's ok, I'm new to BnS so I'm not sure - but I thought there was judging for every level? Who won the other level categories? Or are there different judges for each category? Thanks for being patient with the new girl! :)

Week 66/67 - Sets, Take One, Action! - IntermediateAdvanced Results

    Adler900 - Black Stallion Sets

Like that you created the cast from the in-game movie poster! Like the backstage areas. Nice attention to detail in creating all the “administrative” areas. Cute dressing rooms. Cute chalkboard in the school.

Constructive criticism – try toning down vibrant patterns by pairing them with neutrals.

    ciaracaff -
    A Victorian Movie Set

Cute dressing/make-up rooms, like the writer’s office, love the private rooms in the hospital!, Cute classroom

Constructive criticism – would have liked to see more detail in the bar and bookstore

    Kiarane
    Blackgate Castle

Love the grandeur of the set. Great hospital room – looks very authentic. Yikes at those knives! Love the anatomy lesson room. Another authentic look in the school room.

Constructive criticism – would have liked to have seen some color used

    Tamlyn
    MoonBase Story Sets

Love the café/bar area- very futuristic. Like that you included a cash register in this area. Great lounge area with view of the moonscape! Nice hospital area – love the quarantine room. Great bookshop. Again, love that you included a cash register. Great choice and layout of bookshelves. Love the separate room for paper books! Great futuristic classroom. How appropriate to have virtual goggles for each student.

Constructive criticism – not much to add here :)

    And the winner is...

    Week 68/69 - We're not in Kansas anymore! - Intermediate/Advanced Results

Ciane – Love the yellow brick road! Cute bridge. Love the sunflowers. Interesting toadstools. Great job on the Munchkin buildings - Love the tiny rooms and the modular look to the buildings. Dorothy’s house is authentic as well, but it has a little too much color.

Constructive criticism – Would have liked to see more plants and bushes.

Landax – Good job on the interior of Dorothy’s house. And nice Dorothy! Great transition from the b/w house into the techni-color Munchkin land. Good job with yellow brick road. Like the wild landscaping around the town.

Constructive criticism – Munchkin Village was a little small. Would have liked to see more attention here.

    Lizajbee1
    Welcome to Munchkinland!

Love the contrast between Dorothy’s house in the foreground and the colorful Munchkin buildings in the rear. Great yellow-brick road. Cute arched bridge. Love the flower and bush choices. Witch feet are too cute! Very creative 

Constructive criticism – not much to say… great job overall.

    Scoiattolo
    Dorothy in Munchkinland

Really great job on Dorothy’s house. Love your yellow-brick road in front of the water feature. Like that you did some terracing on the lot. Cute choice of doors and windows. Also like that you furnished the inside of the Munchkin houses. Is that the wicked witch’s skeleton under the house? Cute tin man and Munchkins! Munchkin interiors are colorful and cute, just as you’d expect them to be. Nice landscaping and water features.

    Shades of Normal
    ShadesOfNormal’s Not in KansasAnymore!

Nice contrast between Dorothy’s home and the yellow-brick road out front. I like the stripe around the Munchkin homes. Cute pond and arched bridge. Munchkin homes are nicely landscaped.

Constructive criticism – I had to judge only from your media, and I just couldn’t see enough detail. Next time, share 4 to 5 times the # of photos you did. Make sure the judge can see all the lot features from all angles :)

    And the winners are...

Week 70/71 - Halloween Showcase- Advanced Results

Well, there was only one advanced entry, but it was THIS great lot by Yanti.

    5067264515_e07386c5ff.jpg
    Screenshot-352 (600 x 374) by Yanti68, on Flickr

Comments - Very spooky exterior! Like the use of the Gothique items inside. Looks very old and decayed. Like the use of tomb objects to make the house look like it’s falling apart. Creepy skeletons everywhere! The yard in the daytime is suitably scary – like the use of fog emitters. Great shape to the structure. Great use of the brown scrubbrush plant on the roof. The ghosts look right at home inside. Like that you included a cemetery area.

    Congrats on 1st Place :)
