it's like they've something against long posts/threads
Hmm, that seems to be the case with new threads... that's just great. Hopefully it is just that, that they need to be approved by a moderator, but I cannot see how they will possibly keep up with the amount of new posts that might be just a little too long. I feel so demotivated at this point.
This whole transition is so ugly and frustrating.
Right now the forum is a complete downgrade not upgrad.
Navigation is a scrolling misery. I could care less about the most likes on a post. I care about the most recent posts. The place feels like a popularity contest when you're forced to look at the most liked post everytime you want to scroll through a thread.
The sims 3 section is a joke and a shadow of what we had here for the moment. Hopefully that will change when and if they organize the nominated threads.
Why do we have posts cluttering this site from a decade ago? I like the historical threads, but I got posts on my page from 11yrs ago from when this forum was only a couple months old. Those posts are not necessary and need to go.
I think this new forum triggers me in a bad way becuse they did a rotten job in creating it. Can we post on our pages like here without starting a new discussion?
We are losing a special place that we never had to share with any other games. It's really sad. X, discord..bla bla..will never compare to what we had here, a community full of creative diverse simmers who are passionate and enjoy debate and conversation. I'm not feeling that on the new forum. So sad..
I agree with all of the criticism here - yes, all.
I will also add that it really seems like EA doesn't know its community at all. (Do they really care? They "claim" to.) The forums have always been skewed in favor of a slightly older, more mature crowd, who like to take time out of the day to write thoughtful posts, read the thoughts of others, and share all things Sims from criticism to creations to custom content. This community delves deeper than the "post-and-ghost" speed runs of standard social media, and the people here want substance in communication. We build friendships, support each other, and even when we debate and argue we're more like a little dysfunctional family than a bunch of strangers who play the same game. We like to slow life down because many of us are neurodivergent, overstimulated by the crazy of social media, or just like quiet places to gather our thoughts and express them safely where we feel heard. In the last ten years, we've come to know a little something about each other, and that's what makes this forum so special. There's an emotional investment, not only to the years worth of threads and discussions and creations, but also to the other people in this community. To take that away from us for a superficial, trend-chasing, dime-a-dozen, clutter-fest that rips away our community identities is cold and cruel. We've essentially been lumped-and-dumped on a generic half-thought that didn't seem to know what to do with us. It's depressing.
Yes, I am going to give EA my feedback over there, I'll do it regularly until it helps. And I hope they do the right thing. In the meantime, I still hope to see everyone, somehow, crossing paths in the chaos, trying to connect. I'm not giving up. And if anyone ever feels like they want to reach out for a brief chat to stay in touch in case we get swallowed in the miasma, please do, I think they have private messaging, though I haven't yet tried to use it. (I have the same username.)
@simgirl1010 I'm gonna give it a try but that doesn't make me miss this place any less. I was expecting a more organized forum. I know it's only a few days old and I just Hope that everyone at EA is listening to this community as small or big as it may be. The community here is so loyal to the game
I am usually fast when adapting to something new, just..
my biggest problem is the avatar+siggy issue.. I fully know I can have my avi, but I need all to have it.
Really hard for me who always looks only avatar to see who posted, I really did not have to even read the name. Or sometimes I only saw siggy and knew instantly who was posting.
Now more than ever as not all have the same name.
Plus siggys are the best way to get to people's stories, depends if I look with my phone, then only way (to me) I really do hope these both get addressed soon.
My love, my love, my fearless love, I will not say goodbye..
Sea may rise, sky may fall, My love will never die..
My heart, my heart, My drowning heart, Oh all the tears I've cried
Oh I may weep forevermore, My love will never die..
I am posting my comics in a thread there but because of the way is sorts and presents posts it is not really suitable for maintaining a consistent presentation of material as a collection. For that I will post my creations in separate AHQ threads which, while not perfect, are better suited to my narratives.
If EA should start to scale back on the ability to maintain the AHQ posts, then it may just be time to dust off the old blog.
@Caerfinon I'm gonna do the same thing when I'm ready. It seems to be the best way to work the forum..create your own thread and post pictures. I see others doing the same.
Honestly, what I've thought of (and I think I said this before) is create your own thread, post each installment as a reply to that thread (or better yet, IMO, you post a link to a blog) and encourage people to reply with their comments to each installment. That's probably the closest approximation to the current format.
I've also seen people suggest posting a "table of contents" with links to each individual installment on the root post. That would probably work too... until the list of installments/chapters/episodes whatever got too long.
Like I've said, you can cut wood with a hammer (you just shouldn't).
Fate is a riddle and we choose our own answer.Wyrd Girls
I finally found the Share your newest Sims Creations...
But not a single picture shows- from many, many years of people sharing their creations and builds. A lot of people spend their time creating over the years, and had a special place to go to.
Disheartening..
I'm pretty sure this is all happening to downsize and cut costs which is fine but the forums are a downgrade I think for all their supporters over the many years </3
Many users who are mostly active in the challenges, stories and legacies sections are struggling a lot to find a way to use the new forum structure (the load more instead of pages). To us a thread is like a book, we need chronological order and an easy way to precisely reach a precise post in a very long thread. It's bad enough I'm not sure it does worth the effort to try starting new stories with this reddit-like template, like this it's extremely tedious to navigate.
I'd give it more of a go if I could actually get in on a computer rather than my phone.
I've now tried 3 different computers, in 3 different locations with 3 different browsers, and I'm still getting that internal server error.
And for those who are using different usernames could you please add your forum name somewhere in your post so we can begin to recognize you. 😊
My username on the forums is FairyHappy22. I was trying to use my name on here but it said that name was taken already. By who, I don't know.
But anyways, I'm FairyHappy22 on the new forums.
Also found out we can add avatars. Not custom ones yet but we can add the premade ones.
@February11 I have the impression that the entire basic structure of the Forum has been created to look great on a mobile, so maybe you won't miss much 😅
@February11 I have the impression that the entire basic structure of the Forum has been created to look great on a mobile, so maybe you won't miss much 😅
Of course I understand your frustration.
I guess my phone is better than nothing.
Maybe it will resolve itself eventually.
I wish we could change usernames, my username there is the name I had for a character for character from a game I played years ago. The character got deleted from inactivity so its just a reminder 🥹 I like my username here and my avatar 🥲
It's bizarre how things that were specifically brought up by the community in response to the news were almost entirely overlooked
They really need to make an Off Topic section rather than just lumping it into The Sims Franchise Discussion section. Off topic has a lot of games that are more about learning about the individual members that we see and chat with, and most of the time, they're not even related to The Sims.
Also, I'm gonna be really upset when this forum is going to be put to read-only. It's been like what 3 days since the new forum is published? And I'm still lost over there.
I think the other thing that is so offputting for me is the main page for each section has a short text of each discussion for preview. And cuz of that, the page just looks so cluttered and just not pleasant to look at. The texts for the title is only slightly bigger than the preview text which makes it hard to skim thru all the titles of the discussion.
It also might help to remove spoilers where possible and only add pictures via the button
these new forums are quite buggy and glitchy but theres hoping they can make it work
important thing is that we keep trying to make it work and report everything that does not work to the proper channels
anyhow not sure I'll be here again before the site is read only so waving goodbyes here now and I'll see everyone on the new forum side
will continue and try to edit in all my old posts I can so I'll probably be bit stuck in the past with my posts for now too 😅 I'll be up to usual mischief once i have that settled

They have to moderate them.

about story threads, I'd put links to each chapter in first post and should it get too big create a new thread
