This is a plea to EA to please, please do something about the almost constant use of sims' cell phones. Yes I understand that this is part of today's culture, but our sims play with phones while they are running, watching tv, in the hot tub, and mostly during conversations. I'm trying to get the sim to talk to another sim and they are too busy fiddling with their cells to talk to another sim. Frustration overload when I finally get my sim to woohoo with his crush, and she's too busy on her cell and the que went away. Serves them right!
In my house, dog hair sticks to everything but the dog.
I have to agree. That feature is not nearly as funny as the developers seemed to think it would be. Fortunately, I have a mod that disables it but lots of people can't use mods.
Fate is a riddle and we choose our own answer.Wyrd Girls
I was also very disappointed with the constant phone use that was patched into the game. I try very hard in real life to talk to people without constantly looking at my phone. I want to be able to see my sims do the same. When even rampaging werewolves took out their phones while on all fours, I didn't know if I had to laugh or cry. Laugh because of the funny sight or cry because this was clearly not well thought of. I now consider the mod to correct this 'feature' an essential mod to my game.
Agreed, I'm fine with teenagers using the phone all the time because that was kind of their design ever since the game released but having adult sims using the phone all the time just looks rude when they are talking to each other.
The phone could use an update too, it looks too old.
Yeah I wish it wasn't every sim but rather tied to phone addiction trait
it would be funny if one or two self chosen sims did it but since every sim does it and theres no way to toggle it off its just upsetting
also i don't really like the option of teens doing it " because they're teens" because I often like to play older time period or techless scenarios where such phones do not fit in, even for teens
also I believe there should be technophobes if theres tech addicts
every sim should not be constantly on their phone
I agree 1000%! I have hated the phone use since release, it limits creative and time period gameplay, as @Simmingal mentioned. I've seen so many people over the years asking for some kind of toggle or way to control it, and then High School came out and it was ramped up, of all things. Decisions like these are railroading and dictating to players that we must play their vision of the world. In past games, players had a lot more freedom of choice to build the world, community and Sims that we wanted. So why wasn't the "phone walk style" placed in the optional walks in CAS? Why was it forced on all of our Sims by default? Why were we never offered alternative options to mobile phones, like newspapers and landlines? I'm so sick of "modern trends" always running this game. It's almost ten years old and still feels very "one-note" because of this. I mean, you can't even completely escape it when playing off the grid because it's so integrated.
I, too, use Bienchen's "no autonomous phone" mod, which shuts it all down. And I'll be honest here, if anything happens to that mod, or I can't find a replacement mod to get rid of the phone mania, my Sims 4 days are over. And I don't mean that as a threat, it's just a sad fact, because that's how invasive it is, and that's how much it irritates me.
It would even be great to have a 'dislikes phone use' option in dislikes (that would actually work) to cut off all autonomous phone use, idles, and the walk. I would literally give it to every single one of my Sims, plus all of the npc townies. All devs need to do is look at Bienchen's mod and incorporate it. Of course, I'd personally prefer a universal phone toggle, but I think some players would want to customize who uses the phone autonomously and who doesn't, which makes more sense for a Sims game.
I have had to try and tune it out since I play without mods these days, but it is SOOOO annoying. There are quite a few 'features' added to the game which bug the life out of me, but the phone addiction is one of the top ones.
I suggest you don't buy the Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack, then. They might pick up their knitting pens rather than their cell phones. I seldom have troubles with sims not talking to each others, though.
I use No Constant Phone mod by lazarusinashes. It works perfectly. It was actually the very first mod I ever downloaded. I used to be very apprehensive about mods. I played vanilla for years. I am the opposite of a computer savvy person and I had an irrational fear that I mess something up and break my game.
But then HSY came out and my sims were suddenly glued to their phones all the time. Even while walking. Especially while walking! It was insufferable. I had enough. I overcame my fear of mods and never looked back. So in retrospect I'm thankful to the developers for adding this awful, awful feature.
This comes up frequently on the forums. It needs tuned and we need a toggle to disable it altogether without the command to use it. We also need options for our period Sims so they don't need to use it.
I would love to be able to be able to set the amount of autonomous phone use as a trait for each individual sim. If that is too much work for developers, then I just want it toned down or eliminated.
Totally agree the mobile phones need a huge Update to be more modern and realistic, I also want more realistic phone calls and get rid of the annoying ones, also bring back home phones too.
Phones should not be build in like a chip for Sims, that was already a problem in Sims 3.
I get that gameplay wise they want to keep it easy to reach a Sim, but I think it should be put in CAS options.
This could also allow for phone stores to be a thing if your Sim ever wants to get a new phone, or a phone at all. And you could switch them in CAS to not having a mobile phone.
I'd want there to be several mobile phone options in CAS, with different degrees of functionality so we can control our Sims with it better.
The most basic phone could only be used for calling.
Could be some options in between including what we currently have, and at the top could be some futuristic super phone with functions that don't even exist yet.
But there should also be some occult options here. Vampires and Spellcasters could perhaps learn to use telepathy instead. If someone calls them, they answer telepathically for ease of gameplay. They can telepathically call others too, including services and such. Yes, they could use telepathy to order pizza.
Considering how much attention they have been putting in this 'off the grid' style of living, a phone just does not seem compatible with that at all. You aren't off the grid if you have a phone.
And I think it could be fun if a Sim could actually be difficult to get a hold of, having to find them in the world instead of being able to call them.

I ended up getting two mods just to turn off all the excessive cell phone use.

I need to get a mod...it's really making me nuts.
Or even in a setting where phones don't exist.

You know, I always thought it weird that someone can't have running water but has a smartphone, lol.
