Feeling rather cheesed off....

I have to say I feel a bit cheated over the number of packs that EA has been giving away lately. With one or two exceptions (I'm looking at you Journey to Batuu) I've bought all of the packs when they've come out, so over the years have spent a lot of money on TS4. Yet I wonder now why I bothered since several of the games I've bought have since been available for download free of charge. I'm sure I'm not the only person in this position & I wonder what, if anything, EA will do to reward those of us who have been loyal to the game for years. It would be nice if we were offered something to reward our loyalty. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I don't mind other people getting some packs for free. The way I see it, I got to play with them and enjoy them much earlier and you never know when or if a certain pack will ever become free. That being said, I think it would be lovely if they added bits of extra gameplay and more pack integration as reward for those who do buy all or most of the packs. Make the light sabres from Batuu useable to cut through the jungle in Selvadorada or add new recipes to restaurant menus, let the cows and llamas sleep in the horse beds, etc.

I don't really mind that much. I bought the packs at the time and have had all the enjoyment of playing them from the get-go. I could have chosen to wait on the off-chance of scoring a freebie later but I am fortunate enough to be able to afford to buy them on release.

I had my freebie time when I was poorer during TS3 and was lucky to have quite a few items for nothing so I don't begrudge someone else a turn. And most people know that's how the gaming world works anyway... I have chosen not to buy other games on release and ended up with some real dirt-cheap bargains and freebies for coming to a game at a much later stage. It's just the way it is.

Games decrease in value over time. Some games I pay to play as soon as they are released; others I wait to play many years later after they decrease in value. The Sims is my favorite game. I want to play it as soon as it is available. I am willing to pay for that privilege and I want to support the makers so that they can make more of it.

I never feel cheated when more people can join me in what I love to do most. I want everyone to have everything. I am so glad that others support games at full price that I cannot purchase until they depreciate. I hope they are glad when I can finally join them. I hope they will welcome me and mentor me and include me.

Over the years, I have made many friends online that live in countries that cannot always convert their country's money to purchase American products. We can only share things that are free. I am SO happy about everything they can share with me!

I paid full price for most of Sims 4, and I have purchased most of it TWICE, once for console and once for PC. But I got most of the Sims 3 deeply discounted. The Sims 3 community has been so nice to me!!! Even gifting me store content! Sharing and community has always been my favorite part of playing the Sims since Sims 1 was first released.

When they gave away the free bathtub for an anniversary I remember that I was not positive about it.

Not because a lot of us had paid for the bathtub several years before that but because they did it for an anniversary. The impression you make on your customers and your community is done through your actions and giving away an old item (at least for me) gives me the impression that they care enough to celebrate the anniversary... but not enough to spend money on it.

EA giving away free packs as goodwill to the people who don't have them it's.... eh whatever. I paid for the packs when they were new I guess they can give it away several years later. But it... doesn't always gives the best impression towards the community in my opinion.

A lot of people have spent a lot of money into this game, I guess you could say that we have invested a lot of money and hours into it and we don't want to see them just... give it away. At least not too often.

I think honestly the one thing that makes any game community look bad is the constant complaining. I have seen it with so many amazing, beautiful games that I play, the fanbase is just so toxic and negative and they complain about literally everything, from when they don’t get exactly what they want, even to when they get what they want for whatever reason (it wasn’t soon enough, it wasn’t good enough, it wasn’t enough - in their opinion). I honestly had to stop using Reddit because of the toxicity of some game communities in that way. Just an aside tbh, not entirely related, it has just been on my mind and some of the comments made me think of it, mainly the many positive ones because - thank goodness for positive and kind people. I cant imagine having a job that I was constantly being criticized for doing my best at, even when I tried to do nice things for the community, and do what they asked for.
All my daily trances, and all my nightly dreams, are where thy grey eye glances, and where thy footstep gleams.
I dance to the beat of my own drum, no matter how measured or far away.
I do love a road. You can always be wondering what is at the end of it.

I mean its kind of upsetting if I literally just bought it and I could have bought different pack if i knew

but also I like that others get the things for free and I like that I sometimes get things free
overall like that more people can have the cool stuff in the game without breaking the bank

sure could have not bought it if i knew it was gonna be free
but in all honesty would i have waited and not buy something I wanted if I knew its free like 5 years later? Doubt.

Also maybe it should be more like " free kit of choice" or " choose one of these 5 stuff packs for free"
At least better chance at it being something not in your library but yeah its what it is

I kind of don't like pack items thrown into base game though
but thats because it just reminds me that if they had made it base game from the start
the pack could have had more items like with the hot tub pack if hot tubs were base game from start we wouldn't have pack thats just couple hot tubs it could have had more furniture or different gameplay item we are missing

sure i don't have hot tub pack myself so having hot tubs in base is neat but still if one could time travel...

Free stuff for other players doesn't bother me at all. When a pack or kit is free (usually only for a short time) I tell my friends who play who I know don't have it so they can get it if they want it. I do this even if I paid full price for it earlier, because I don't want them to have to.

Even permanently making a small feature of an old pack part of the base game doesn't bother me either because it at least opens up the possibility that we might see new versions of that type of item in future packs. And (say what you want about "reskinned" objects) I am all about having many, many different styles of things because I love building, love making characters, and love taking screenshots and I want lots of options. And in many cases the object or feature they eventually make base game is something I thought should have been base game to begin with. So it feels right to me, even if I already own it.

I'm old enough that more than half my life was spent in a totally pre-"home computer", pre-internet, non-digital world. So I'm used to the progression of things going from "hot and expensive" to "old news and cheap" to "relegated to the bargain bin" to "we give this away for free as a promotional stunt" and none of that seems wrong to me. It allows people access to things even when they are on very tight budgets. If I can't afford something when it is new, I wait until it is not. It would be very frustrating to live in this world if nothing ever decreased in value over time.

True that I guess I'm not really upset about things being moved to base game I'm just sad it wasn't base game from the start which would have opened many more possibilities for the packs

This is NOT my favorite way of seeing free stuff given away! When the most loyal supporters receive nothing during a celebration, it is human to feel disrespected. There is a Bible parable about people that worked one hour receiving the same wages as the people that worked all day. Maybe I should be above feeling disrespected in situation like this, but EA is not God, and I am just human, and as much as I want everyone to have everything that I have, on a special day, I want something new and special, too. Yes, something that we can all have, but something that is new for ALL us, including me.

I'm not feeling cheated or so, but the recent free stuff and bug disaster have basically tighten my wallet somehow, so I think trice before buying a brand new pack. Even with the last publisher sale I didn't bought the last stuff pack, so I wait for the next sale, maybe then I get the 30% rebate.

I don’t have a problem with some packs going free. I’ve bought quite a lot of packs in the last couple of years and some of them have gone free not long afterwards, but that’s OK with me. I had that extra time beforehand to enjoy them. And to get all the packs, it’s really expensive, and not everyone can afford them all.

I think it’s interesting that EA gave us loads of advance notice that Blooming Rooms was going to be given away for free. I liked that — it meant that people thinking of buying it knew they had a choice to either buy it now or wait a few weeks and get it for free. I think that’s fair.

I don't mind this if it's temporary and smaller packs like stuff packs and kits. Sure I paid for them but it's nice that don't who can't afford them can get them afterwards. Of course it is all about proportions. If they should give away really recent ones or a bigger pack, it will feel a bit sour.

EA has given several items from packs for free as well. The first time I was upset but I have grown used to it I guess. It doesn't bother me as long as the pack has enough remaining value.

What bothers me more is what they did with the hot tub. That bothered me more because it permanently devaluates an existing pack. The kit that is given free now will keep it's value after the giveaway. Of course this might be more of an emotional reaction than a logical reaction. But I still feel cheated/tricked into buying perfect patio.

    It doesn't bother me.

When I discovered The Sims ( 3 ), I had very little to spend on entertainment. Treasure was hard to find and my fleet wasn't as big as it is now. All I really had was a rubber dinghy and an insufferable fat old macaw who's clingy claws gave me shoulder pain and a left ear-ache because she always complained about coconuts. I don't know why. Something coconut related must have happened to her when she was only a wee hatchling. R.I.P Chi Chi, I loved you no matter what. I still do. I miss you.

There were hardly any Sims 3 sales back in the day, the biggest being the Black Friday sale, with up to 70% off Expansion packs! That was the only time I could afford treating myself to a bunch of EPs and that's exactly what I did. I'd wait for an entire year to buy Sims content. But I had fun in the end so it was worth it.

I'm able to look after myself a bit better nowadays. When I like a pack I can get it right away if I want to. Oftentimes I do, because I see no reason to wait for that long unless a pack introduces a plethora of gamebreaking bugs at release, which - as we all know- has happened before. I will no longer pre-order or buy SP's GP' and EP's at release, but that's not the point. The fact that I CAN get them, to be able to jump into the game right away and explore the latest packs makes all the difference. If, after three years, one of those pack becomes free for all, I haven't lost anything. If I bought it and enjoyed it a week before they give it out for free, that would be a tad annoying, let's not pretend it wouldn't be - still, I wouldn't have lost anything. I paid for it and enjoyed it the moment I wanted it. Not a week later, NOW.

Saying "Why did I even bother spending all that money..." is like saying "Why did I even bother having a shower this morning and waste all that water since I'll be dirty in a few hours anyway. What's the point? Why live when you can be a cosy six feet under instead, since that's where we're all heading anyway." Except the immortals amongst us. You'll be fine. Lucky buggers.

I'm happy for the people who can get content for free. I'd say just enjoy the moment if you can, we will all get our discounts and free-bees when we need them at some point in our lives. 💚

I would rather not get the free bees invading my room this summer and just get the discounts though
    Sorry off topic,
I'm just so tired of trying to guide bees back to great outdoors all times of day after they find their way into my room
and I need to rant about it whenever I see word bee

how can I tell bee there no flower in my room? I wish they could read so I could just put up a sign

At this point it is my expectation that after a year expansion packs will go 30-50% off. I know when I purchase it that I'm paying more for the privilege of playing it earlier. I do like the content that's included if you purchase it at release. It feels a bit like being rewarded for paying full price and being a loyal customer. I feel similarly about kits. Certainly I wish they would give a credit or something instead of just choosing a kit to give free so everyone can benefit. The limited time rewards are a way to reward loyalty but they've been met with so much negativity I'm not sure we will see them again.
