2025 would be true to that statement. It is "years" later.
I wouldn't have guessed more than 4 from that and I felt 2025 might be it.
A ten year run is more than enough time for me. I am ready for it to end so I can mod it in peace.
A couple of more packs and some key bug fixes should do it.
Agreed, I am ready for TS4 to retire soon. All I really would wish for is like mentioned, core bug fixes, as well as a fairies GP, a shopping mall GP, and a hotels EP. Then modders can create mods and not have to worry about updates unless they wish to, not because they have to.
That's nice. My excitement for Project Rene goes up with every Summit and then steadily declines in the months between the updates. We're definitely due for one.
My theory is that The Sims Team is pulling back on public reveals of Project Rene and are moving to a "wait and see" approach. Paralives, LBY, and inZOI are all releasing soon. I think they want to view the competition and respond accordingly.
I don't think The Sims Project Rene is in danger because :
The Sims has a long relationship with many players, they won't leave it as if it never existed. It's like an addiction.
Many life sim games don't deliver the same experience as The Sims (No occult, missing LGBTQ+ features, no Mac/console version). For example The Sims 2 remains an unique experience.
Many players who never play to The Sims could be interested by the other life sim.
Many players who will continue to play to The Sims will also play to another life sim. We already see it with the players who play to TS2/TS3/TS4 at the same time.
The fact that The Sims 4 keeps on growing despite of the bad reputation and the announcement of other life sim proves the franchise is still very popular.
The target audience is also a factor :
The Sims is popular in USA and Brazil but the rest of world might be more interested by the other games. For example Korean/Asian players may prefer inZOI.
The Sims is designed for kids and target the feminine players while other life sim games target adults including masculine players.
Single player vs Multiplayer is another factor, The Sims community who is mainly introverted prefers Single Player.
For example Vivaland could interest extroverted players.
I highly doubt any of the other games will take The Sims' place on the throne. TS is just too big to be knocked out so easily. Sure, they will provide some competition and a lot of sims players will try out one or more of them, me included.
Can't see myself abandoning Sims for any of the others, though. Some, I don't like the art style, others look too "perfect" and frankly too young for me. I need to see some seriously buffed up gameplay (including occults), or my interest will plummet.

We thought SimCity was untouchable.
The thing was SimCity was dead before CitySkylines released. There was no competition.
The case of SimCity is completely different because the players never abandon SimCity, it's EA who decide to give up after the failure of SimCity Societies (2007) and SimCity (2013).
Cities XL and Cities Skylines didn't do anything.
Note : SimCity (2013) sold over 1.1 million copies in its first two weeks, the servers weren't prepared to host so many players at launch.
(The Sims 3 sold over 1.4 million copies in its first week making it the bestselling PC launch in the company’s history.)

That's true.
Personally, I have one foot out the door when it comes to The Sims Franchise because TS4 has been a total miss for me and I haven't been engaged with TS4 community at all. But it seems like a lot of simmers first started playing with TS4 and feel different.
I don't know much about what happened with SimCity. I've practically only played the first iteration of it, and enjoyed it. I think I also tried one other (2003 or something? believe I have the CD somewhere )
I really hope EAxis will take their time with Project Rene, and do it right. I don't want the pressure to get to them, so they rush out a half-baked product. They have the experience, and years and years of player feedback.

Same, @catloverplayer, same.
They usually mention if there is a BTS Summit in the roadmaps. So no new Project Rene news in Q1 2024.
Maybe we get to see a more polish looked at the chracteres next time.
Yes, I look forward to seeing that soon. But I'm afraid the next BTS Summit won't be for a while
Hopefully more Project Rene news.

The Sims 4 General DiscussionI don't think the game is in trouble.I think them releasing it latter is the best move. They would have more time to flesh it out.
Sims have history and certain that the other games do not have.
The games are also in early acess there not full versions of the game.
The game will be free.If the games does come with weather, corlor wheel open districts..Sims personalities and emotions are great. It will be a beast.

I can understand why they take their time to do properly a basegame planned to work for decades.
Once Project Rene will be released, it will be too late to fix the foundations.

The Sims 4 General DiscussionI don't know if it exists usually.
I think it was a special role created for Grant Rodiek similar to "VP Franchise Creative @ The Sims" for Lyndsay Pearson.
This job is probably filled by an Executive Producer now.
