I'd really like for EA to add functional basement hatches to the game. For the most part, if you want to create an underground structure, you need to use doors, stairs, and ladders for entry. But realistically, if you were trying to create an inconspicuous underground bunker, cellar, sewer, or secret hideaway of some sort, you'd want to use a basement hatch. The sim would open the hatch lid and climb down via a ladder. It would simply look cooler and be practical for that type of dwelling/structure. They could have a variety of designs including manhole covers, floor hatches, and cellar door hatches. I mean, they added functional windows with HSY. Sims can now climb through a window to enter a dwelling. Though I'd really prefer if this were a base game compatible feature.
I also think EA should add functional fire escapes and make them compatible for apartment shells. That way if you wanted an apartment shell to be low - tech, you could use a fire escape instead of an elevator to gain entry. They'd function similarly to the HSY windows, only, the sims would first have to climb up the fire escape ladder and reach the landing, then they could enter through a window or sliding door.
