We're heading into the depression era in my game, and a part of the time was many people getting laid off or fired, but how can I make this happen in game? I've read that with GT you could cheat a layoff period by right clicking the sim and choosing it in the expansion cheat menu, but in that menu GT doesn't even show up for me. Going to work with poor performance gets you demoted - not fired - in my experience and not even MCCC offers you a cheat option to get laid off and the UI Cheat extension only give you the option to demote - not fire.
I suppose that I could cheat the milestone (got laid off), but will that actually get my sim laid off, or will it just give them a milestone?
I've managed to have a sim get fired once, but that was through a pop-up and I can't make those appear. So how do I go about getting my sim fired without having them demoted through all career steps before (they're on level 7 in their career, so that's a lot of demotions first)? Anyone who has any tips?
Moreover, I advise that the cart button must be destroyed!

The chance for it happening is small. It is further decreased when your sim has just earned a promotion (or has just joined the career) or when someone in the household is in lay-off period or is in cooldown. In addition, Professional Slacker reward trait also prevents lay-off periods.
The only thing that increases this chance is Lazy trait unfortunately...
Though I do see that trait_JobLoss_InLayoffPeriod is added. I think I should test it out to see if you can equip this trait to manually start a layoff period...
If you want your sim to get fired, you'll have to get that performance meter down. You can skip work or always take it easy. Though skipping work is the easiest method.
I tested it out, and yes, simply equipping the trait works!
It took 1 day for my sim to be laid off (2 work shifts due to me equipping the trait during the work shift).
So yeah, if you want to manually start a lay-off period, with testingcheats enabled, use this cheat: You won't get a notification on it starting, but you will see the effects of it taking place (special moodlets when at work, higher chance for Fear of Failure and Fear of Dead-End Job etc), eventually culminating with either your sim being laid off or continuing their job.
Yes, you can influence the chance.
The following things help you to avoid lay-off:
- Ambitious trait (very effective)
- Working hard (the tone that raises the performance but lowers Fun need)
And the following things help you to get laid off:Updated with Werewolf Diaries (1)
ok this detail really makes me want to get Parenthood now
