While it would be wonderful to have several businesses on one lot, I would also like to see living areas added so a live-in business or businesses are possible. Selling from a table on your lot seems too much like a yard sale.

Some things like garden produce work great as a yard sale. But a live in business would be great option not just for shops. We still can't earn money as baristas or mixologists at cafes and bars or be a chef in our own restaurants. Or charge for admission to lots like a museum, gallery, or public pool.

I really, really want this too. It would make lot designs way more fun. I want to have apartments above shops, retaurants next to cafes, etc. It would also help with the limited number of lots in TS4.

Sims 4 REALLY needs to have multi-purpose lots for both community and residential. This is what the Generic lots should of been.
Why do you hide inside these walls?

I think TS3 solved the community lot functionality so good, with the help og the CC rugs. One item placed on the lot defined the function of the lot. I loved that, because instead of using the rabbithole-build I could build whatever building I wanted, and by placing that mat (a rather tiny object) I defined what kind of community lot function I got.

In TS4 these things are defined by lot category. It allows us to decide the build structure, but it might be more difficult to have several functions on the same lot than if it was set by objects placed on the lot. Hopefully they will find a way for us to define multiple areas on the same lot, and with the rental residential units they probably sorted out some of this already. I'm hopefull regarding future mixed lots, but I don't expect it to be included with the pack that comes right after For Rent. Besides, I expect they will use it as a major selling point, and we did not yet hear it mentioned.

It will be 10 times more interesting to build shopping malls and nearly all kinds of community lots if we can combine. I already add small "pretend this is a business" sections with most typical community lots, but they will never attract the right NPCs.

TS3 didn't solve community lots functionality in any way. They functioned same as TS4, except that they also gave you a huge rabbit hole building to go with it. In TS4 we have the small food and grocery stands instead of the huge bistro and grocery shop. Smaller CC rugs were more practical in TS3, because you could actually build a lot around them and maybe add something more and make it more interesting.

LittleMsSam has a mod that I LOVE called "Next Door" right now it only has two next door types: Park next door and Cafe next door. Basically, if you add this trait and activate it, a fully functioning park or cafe will exist on your lot, so long as the requirements are met. I prefer this to mods (including hers) that just allow you to fill any vendor or NPC slots, because they don't attract the townies and townie behavior in the same way the "Next Door" mod does.

This is just a long winded way of saying the coding is definitely possible and a modder has already done it, and I would be very happy with similar functionality from the game. Even if only one additional "next door" type was allowed it would open things up dramatically.

while little miss sam mods have not worked for me since cottage living update, I never saw or tried this one. can you send me the link?

Hi Sorry for the delay! I tuned this thread out for the holidays. See below, the mod is actually called My Little Neighborhood. I really, really, really, hope she adds more lot types.

I used to have this mod in my game before Cottage Living broke all my gameplay mods by little ms sam. I tried to put some back now and they work, so I will give this one a try again. Thank you for the link @jennieeffin

Honestly would love this, as I've always wanted to have a family be able to start a restaurant or a bar/lounge, or a shop on their property and be able to not only run it but all work there, holding different positions. Owner could cook, spouse and older children could seat guests and wait on them, or maybe the owner could hire for those spots if there isn't enough family help. Have the ground floor of the house be dedicated to the business while the family live in the upstairs. I've always wanted to play that kind of lifestyle.

I also would love to be able to design a lot as a plaza, with maybe a gym here, a spa, a couple shops and a restaurant or cute little cafe there, with some outdoor seating even. Just a fun place where there's multiple things on a single lot for sims to just wander through.

If they did this, they should also add trampolines so we can have those trampoline gyms for the kids, and give us the ability to schedule and throw parties on different lots so that we can throw kids' birthday parties there, or have a skating party at a skating rink, or throw one at a park or something.

You can sort of do that with community space type lots. You can set up a restaurant with the university cafeteria and then add other things to the lot like craft tables or spa and gym equipment. An art shop works well, you can add easels and those paintings sale walls. You can also add a couple of sales tables and the sale clothes rack that came with highschool pack. Also, the bubble tea stand works well with this type of lot.
