@OJenn - check out the forum announcement. I’m not sure if this thread is threatened or not but you’d better have a look!

Oh my goodness, thanks for the tag! Sadly this thread will be impacted since I created it in 2020. I am going through now and getting the main page info into Docs so that once the move is done I can repost. I still can't believe its been 14 years

@OJenn - this thread has been moved to the nominations thread, which means it should go to the new forums (which I really hope is as easy to navigate as this). We should be able to continue posting on here but I’m not sure whether we can still do that between mid-March and MidJuly when the transition is complete. I’ll have to see if can get the current generations posted before mid-March! Do you want me to nominate the oiriginal rebuilding worlds thread as well?
  • OJennOJenn Posts: 8,429 Member
Yeah I was wondering about that myself! And yes please if you could nominate it as well that would be great! This might motivate me to go back to that challenge with new sims ♥

I just saw the forum announcement -- how would everyone feel about me archiving our posts on an external website? Like a blogspot / wordpress blog or something? I don't know if I will physically have time to do it by the time the forums shut down but I can try! I occasionally go back and read our old posts so I'd personally be sad to lose that. I know some people haven't been active in awhile or don't check the forums often, so do you think I should save theirs too or would that be weird? I'm panicking and scrambling lol. I just don't want to lose our years of work :bawling:

I think its a fantastic idea @tipsycowplant The challenge, and all the other versions of it, are near and dear to me. I am still sad that years of our stuff will be gone so anyway to preserve it has my vote. We started in The Sims 3 forums so long ago :'(

Ok so I spent all night working on a website...unfortunately it's going to be way too time-intensive to accomplish. Some posts copy over correctly, some don't for whatever reason. For those, I'd have to manually save all the pics then reupload them to the site, then basically rewrite/format the entire post. As much as I would love to preserve it all, it's just too much :bawling: That said, I nominated our thread over on that page. It says all URL photos will transfer if the thread does get transferred over, so fingers crossed we get transferred over. If not...thank you all for the years of stories, photos, and friendship. I hope we'll all meet again on the new forums

Aww no worries at all @tipsycowplant I completely understand ♥ I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that the threads get moved with little issue. I did go ahead and join The Simis Discord they mentioned in the announcement post.

P.S. I might not be posting as many pics until I get a new PC. My hope is to have one before my bday next month, fingers crossed! I am also considering just starting fresh with the new PC...I dunno we'll see what happens after the forums merge and everything

I am so relieved! For some reason when I came looking for this thread it took me to the two older ones! I was getting ready to start playing again and I thought the thread had died. Then I thought no this is the old thread...what a relief to see people posting recently! I can't believe how many expansion packs I'm behind on not to mention all the other packs lol. I'm going to go back a few pages and see what you all have been up to!

Oooof! I'm back with an edit because I just read about the forums. How sad to lose all those threads but I guess it's just time to start new! Maybe it's time for Volume 3?

I am happy to be back and excited to play my game again! @OJenn It is a little overwhelming trying to remember everything! I spent much of the night last night trying to decide if I still wanted MC Command Center but I couldn't let what it does for their skin go. Then I had to remember where my family trees are, where my files for the stories are on my computer and where my pictures are! I saw I still had one thing on push so of course those are all dead now but the ones on imgur are fine. All these new kits and packs that I missed I don't know where to start! As always @OJenn you're the true MVP thanks for keeping this alive and well all these years <3<3

I'm struggling to decide which expansions I should get. I've missed the last 4! Part of me is thinking to get growing together and high school years because they're 50% off. Of course the horse and rent one look really fun too though! Then there is the Chef pack which looks fun and werewolves that I can do without for now. And so so many kits! I think the green house and book nook ones are at the top of my list. @everyone What are your favorites?

@debjameswhite I would highly recommend Growing Together for sure just because the challenge is so heavily tied to families. I really enjoy a lot of the features that came from that pack like the family dynamic that sims can have with each other. You know me, at this point, I own everything  I just bought the two most recent kits yesterday.

Can anyone remember what worlds we haven't done yet? I feel like we are missing a few between the original challenge and this one  The first challenge was the starter worlds and this one has the newest ones...trying to think of what volume 3 could have. Maybe we could add a budget for the builds this time around? Open to thoughts of course @tipsycowplant @MayaRose1138

@OJenn I was looking through the posts reminding myself where my family was before I totally dove back in. I saw that on of your sims ended up with my Flynn but the pictures were broke :( I wanted to see!! lol Thank you for the recommendations. I'm going to go with that to get the family stuff. I love that.

I saw you were in Henford-on-Bagley, what expansion is that from? I'm thinking I might go there too and start over with Parker as my founder as that one didn't seem to have couple to start with (assuming you're still there!). That way I can keep my story going :)

Yay!! Henford-on-Bagley is from the Cottage Living pack, that world is absolutely gorgeous! And yeah with puush kicking the bucket I lost a ton of pics

lol back one day and I'm already compulsively hitting refresh on this page just in case someone has posted :)

Haha ♥ I would say @MayaRose1138 is probably the most active right now! I am tempted to share some old pics from that I've been sitting on for a while

Wow, I forget to check this post for a few days and everyone is on! Both this thread and the original thread have now been nominated to move over so all those pics and stories should remain intact.

@OJenn - we’re missing Chestnut Ridge and Tomarang on this thread. If we’re talking ideas for a volume three, maybe take those two, plus HoB, San Sequoia and any new ones into the new challenge and have the ‘make-your- own-founders’ there, plus as you said, maybe a budget for each lot (or maybe a theme for each - tiny house, horse ranch, two -storey, etc.).

@debjameswhite , @tipsycowplant - welcome back! I would highly recommend the Growing Together pack - I absolutely love it! The chef pack is good but apparently there’s a bug where the pizza oven and waffle makers keep bursting into flame (I can vouch for that!). Haven’t played much with the horses or For Rent yet (a,though there’s some CAS in the latter that I’m loving). Just got the Cool Kitchen and Backyard packs myself but am currently playing my Brindleton family on a lot that hasn’t any room for water slides!

I’m at work so I’ll check back later to maybe add more :)

Please forgive me for this giant wall of text, but I'm planning to continue my story so I felt a recap was in order. Because I have a vampire in my story it spans several generations and challenges. I went from Windenburg to Willow Creek to Evergreen Harbor. I'm planning to start my challenge anew where @Ojenn is but I have to keep this family and story going. I can't leave my sweet Lawrence in such a miserable state! Anyways, if you want to catch up on where my story was, please read on :)

*Also I just added a little family tree to the end.
    TEA9C1k.jpeg

Sometimes he couldn’t remember his own name. Resting his head in his hands, he took a deep breath. He remembered Grandpa Caleb, the one who had changed everything.

Ethan had been on a book tour when the earthquake and tsunami had devastated his home Windenburg. His family and his wife’s family both had homes on an island of the coast of the main city and he and his wife had just started their life together. They had a little girl and 3 boys, triplets! His memory of that time was so hazy. He had raced home and gone to the island. He was searching for anyone, but they were all gone. There was another earthquake, and he became trapped himself. Grandpa Caleb found him and gave up his own immortal life to save Ethan.
Ethan who had been Lawrence then. David before this, and countless other names as he hid himself through the years. He had been wild at first. His grief consumed him. He had wanted to die with his love and being forced to live had made him insane. It didn’t last long though. Especially in terms of the immortal. He couldn’t stop thinking about his son and his father. His father had also lost everything. His wife, his children, everything. He picked himself up though and was there for his grandson Caiden.

Eventually he settled in Willow Creek and raised Caiden there. Ethan/Lawrence came out of his madness in time to be there with his father when he finally passed away. He had held his father’s hand as he faded, and they had talked about so many things. When Greysen finally took his last breath, both had found a new peace.

For the next few generations Lawrence stayed hidden. Eventually though, one of his descendants was heading to university and Lawrence thought maybe he could go too. Maybe he could get to know someone from his family. That’s when he became David. He lived with Lachlan and his wife for a long time. They had all become so close that Uncle David stayed on and helped them to raise their children. Eventually though as the family aged and he didn’t he had to move away. He told everyone he was called back Mont Vista where he was from, and no one knew if they would ever see him again.

Lachlan and his wife Thalia had 3 boys – triplets of course. As David he had been close with the boy, when Finley was getting ready to move out for college, he made sure Finley had everything he needed. Including an apartment to stay in. Finley had had a hurtful encounter with a young woman named Piper who had been cruel to him. They had had one woohoo encounter and the girl became pregnant. When Finley saw her and asked about it, she mocked him. Later when her twins were born, Thalia also questioned her, but she adamantly denied it. Finley started seeing another woman and told Piper she needed to leave him alone.

Finley fell in love with Charlotte. Quickly. She was pregnant and he immediately proposed. He graduated from med school and the next day she had triplets. He felt horrible for not being there with her. They were married soon after and Finley knew he needed to find another place to live for his family. Especially when Charlotte told him she was expecting again. He also told David about the issues he was having with Piper.
As much as he knew he should stay away, David made immediate arrangements to return.

David went to the apartment building with thoughts to purchase the building. He could expand Finley’s apartment by moving into the one next door or even expanding up. He was immediately greeted however with Piper and her husband fighting in the lobby. They left immediately. He sensed something was off as he drew closer. He went into Piper’s apartment and saw her children. There was no denying that they belonged to Finley. Aside from the fact that the girl was his spitting image, they smelled like his family. He confronted Piper who was furious with him. Her husband was devastated. She threw David out, but he wasn’t finished with her, or so he thought.

It was the worst mistake of his life leaving Piper alone with those children. When he returned, they were gone. He bought the apartment building so Finley could use it whenever he needed. He did not tell Finley about Piper though. Finley moved on with his life raising his family and David continued his search for Piper and her children. He let Finley think he moved back to Mont Vista but instead he moved to Willow Creek. He had kept a large mansion there for years. Most thought it was abandoned, and he liked it that way.

Eventually David changed his hair color back to its natural color, and he changed his name to Ethan. Another person from his past that he had cherished. One day he walked into a bar and instantly found Piper’s son. Lawrence/Ethan struck up a conversation but when he got a phone call the boy slipped out. A few days later, Ethan spotted Parker in the gym and finally won him over. He took him in and started raising him. He eventually found where Parker’s sister was, but still has not found their mother. It had become clear that Piper had married into a bad family and Ethan needed to keep Parker hidden. Parker had a difficult time believing his father wasn’t his father and didn’t love him, but he agreed to let Ethan adopt him.

Now Ethan wondered what would happen next. He needed to make sure that both of Finley’s children would be safe. If he couldn’t tell Finley about their existence, he would at least make sure they were safe and provided for. He needed to find out what had scared Piper into abandoning her children and disappearing. He had such a huge secret himself to hide but he would do anything for Parker. He hoped everything would work out.

I’m not 100% sure but I’ve asked in the info thread and it seems that we won’t be able to post anything on this thread after March 12th and before July whatever date the new forums open. Which means I’ll have a lot of stuff that will need to be posted before then otherwise there will be literally pages of photos by July! So we might be able to talk to each other on AHQ but not actually post in this particular thread which won’t open in the new forums (which isn’t AHQ, just run by them or something) until July.

@Kiwicantdie - are you aware of what’s going on with the forums?

Had a thought for a volume three, especially if it involved taking a couple of towns away from vol 2 - we could have a budget or theme if people wanted to find their own blueprints, or have the ones we’ve already found if they want to go that route.

Sort of like in the original challenge where you could renew or rebuild, we could have, ie:
Option A: build one of two given house plans
Option B: build a house that is around $40,000 in value
    Option C: build a 2-storey, 3-bedroom townhouse

That way those of us who aren’t great builders (*cough* me *cough*) could use floor plans whereas others could use free build within certain guidelines.

Yeah there will be a delay, I was kind of hoping that they gave us those dates to cover themselves as threads are slowly moved over. I am wondering if someone from the team has to manually move them or if there is a way to move them more seamlessly. (Not my area of expertise lol) We could look at starting a Rebuilding General Thread on the AHQ, it'll give me an excuse to actually be there and figure how to post/how to navigate those forums etc.

@Debjameswhite I love the recap that you provided and I am so happy to see the family line continue with Parker ♥ ♥ You could always bring him over to a version 3 instead if you like? Let's brainstorm some ideas maybe on the AHQ forums together.

Is everyone okay with me making a general thread over there? I can link it back here too so its not lost.

Totally forgot to add that we've officially moved across the country and we'll be living in a hotel until our place is ready mid-March. My old PC is trucking along but it's most certainly on its last leg we've had it for so long at this point. The plan is to get me a new one for my bday next month once we're all moved in to the new place.
  • MayaRose1138MayaRose1138 Posts: 1,803 Member
I’m happy with having a general thread in the interim. I’m going to try to get at least one more update on my saves before the cutoff date because by July, I could be seriously behind.

Wow, you’ve got a busy time coming up, and living in a hotel wouldn’t be easy. I hope everything goes well for you and that you get a new computer soon! And that the move into the new house goes well too 😆.

Also what is AHQ and can you link me?

@debjameswhite We went the other direction, Michigan! The AHQ is another EA site that they've had for sometime now that includes all EA games.

So I went back to the announcement post and read through everything from EA_Cade again and it looks like we will be able to post on here until July. It's just that anything posted after March 12th won't come over to the new forums which I think will be separate from the AHQ site. With that maybe we don't need a general thread here. What do you all think? Am I understanding this right?
The Sims Forums will remain open to you until July 2024 when EA forums launches.

Please make note of the following dates and instructions from now until we’re live on the new site:
Any content posted on The Sims Forums after March 12, 2024 will NOT be migrated over to the new EA forums.
We’ll migrate content posted between October 18, 2022 and March 12, 2024 in addition to select content from the nominations thread mentioned below. We will make every effort to ensure that data will port over..
